They aren't saving him for anything, my guess is he wanted him to go out feeling good about himself before anything bad happed b/c itwasn't like he was dominating through 5 even though he gave up just 2 hits. Yep clueless Joe who led us back from an impossib;e defecit back into the playoffs. Obviosuly the division is done at this point, the good news is unless cle collapses these last 5 games we will be playing cle instead of LAA in the 1st rd. I know Cle is good and has a dynamic duo of SPs but I still feel better against them in a 5 game series.
Seems to me it's the players that led us back. I didn't see Torre make many plate appearances or starts this year. Managers rarely win games but they can certainly lose them like he did last night.
of course it was the players who led us back, we all know Joe can only lose games for us so Joe dug us into that hole and the players valiantly dug us out only to watch Joe slowly dig us back in:rofl: So Joo didn't make any plate appearances or starts during our great run but he was hitting and pitching last night?
Yeah, and that's the point. Torre is doing exactly what I thought he would do if we won the wildcard and that's throw in the towel on the division. The problem with that is we haven't won the wildcard yet. That's ok, just another nail in his coffin if we don't win it all this year.
I'm with you this time junc. Joe gets a ton of credit from me for the Yankees coming back this year. I can't believe anyone would be against him right now. He's been brilliant almost the entire second half. He's made mistakes that I've pointed out, but if he didn't, he'd be perfect, and there isn't one manager in the sport who is perfect. I can't understand how people can still be down on Torre at this point. If not for Joe, we'd be playing Tampa Bay right now to see who gets to finish the year outside the basement.
Dude, the magic number is one. Even if we lose every game left, Detroit would still need to win them all. One loss, and they're done. And if you honestly believe we can't win one out of five, against TB and Balt no less, then why would we even want to make the postseason? You're just nitpicking on Joe now. Come on man. We're in October. Right now, Joe is trying to make the decisions of who will be part of the team when the second season starts. There's enough question marks that need to be solved before the next series starts, the biggest of which is who pitches out of the pen. Joe's giving guys the chance to show what they've got.
For starters he left Abreu in the number 3 spot for a month and a half when all he could do was strike out. He didn't start hitting until he moved him down to number 5. So how many games did that cost us? How many innings did Arod lead off with a HR instead of hitting it with men on thanks to that blunder? And last night? He used three scrubs to relieve Igawa with and left Bruney in 3 batters too long until he had the chance to totally blow the lead. Now I don't like Igawa any more then anyone else does but he had thrown 85 pitches and given up two hits when he took him out. Where was the sense in that? If he had been left in another inning or two the chances we would have been down 6-5 when he came out are slim to none.
I know we aren't going to blow the wild card. At least I don't think we will but then we did lose 4 straight to Boston after being up 3-0, didn't we? So I guess anything is possible. The point is we had a chance for the division and the last thing we need now is to run a talent contest. If he doesn't know by now who can pitch and who can't then what does that say for him?
Igawa is a loose canon. He could implode at any time. Better that he gets pulled early enough to give him confidence going into future starts than to let him shoot his load and be worthless in the future. The big difference between now and the Boston thing is, we have to lose 5 straight, and Detroit has to win 5 straight. The math isn't impossible, but it's surely not at all likely to happen. Who wants the division anyway? If the season ended today, we'd be heading to Cleveland, and LA to Boston. That's exactly how I want it. (Of course I'd like to win the division every year, but this time, it might actually pay off to be the wild card.)
Wang is doing my fantasy team justice by winning and so has Posada. Sox magic # 2 Congrats on the Wild Card Title.
12 - 2 in the 8th. Yeah it looks that way. Of course last night we let them come back 6 in the 6th. I like Chamberlin though -- he looks like a beer drinking type. Oh, I'm drinking tonight either way -- But HERE'S TO OCTOBER!!!! :BEER
Let me see you two defend your beloved Torre tonight. He takes Igawa out last night, when the division was still a possibility, after giving up two hits on 85 pitches and brings in 3 scrubs to blow the game. Tonight he leaves his ace in for 7 innings in a 12-2 blowout and then brings in Chamberlain to pitch the 8th. He's a f***ing lunatic and I will cheer when he is fired at the end of the year.
We may have lost our chances at the Division, but we clinched the playoffs under my thread....I thought the 1st game was an omen that I was bad luck.....whew!!
The whole team besides ARod, Jeter and Posada stunk for a couple of months. When we pitched well we couldn't hit, when we hit well we couldn't pitch. It wouldn't have mattered who the manager was but it did matter who the Mgr was to bring us back. Again Joe's calm leadership helped us toget back on track. As far as Tues Night, he used the pitchers he ha available in the pen. I guarantee you if Igawa came out for the 6th and gave up 3-4-5 runs you would have screamed at Joe for not going to the pen. It's not a div title but we are in again which is something very few of us thought we had a chance of a few months ago. It lookes like it will be the yanks vs. Cleveland resuming a great rivalry from the late 90s.
