I know this is off the current thread of though, but I gotta say, I started listening to Maiden for the first time earlier this year and now I'm hooked on them. A lot of their newer stuff (on Brave New World, Dance of Death, and A Matter of Life and Death) is just as good as a lot of their old stuff, something that can't be said about pretty much any other band that's been around as long as they have. What a great band, I'm hoping I'll be able to catch them at a US date during their Powerslave Tour next year (Powerslave's my favorite album of theirs).

    Symphony X

Went to see Symphony X last night at Starland, excellent show from a great band from NJ. I had seen them a few years ago on Gigantour and have Twilight in Olympus. They played alot of stuff from the new CD Paradise Lost that I picked up last night, they also played Smoke and Mirrors and The Odyssey. They will be touring with Dream Theater in Europe in the fall.

This new CD is smoking, check out Serpents Kiss on their site.

My favorites so far are Domination and The Walls of Babylon. Good stuff even for the heaviest of metal fans.

    http://www.symphonyx.com/

    Domination

All along the waste and wild
legions of lost scream in pain
    A million shattered destinies
all slowly drowning in tears of flame

Break the chains around your necks
lick your wounds you Dogs of War
    Raise your banners ever high
    and ravage the Babylon Whore

    I, with darkest insurrection, victimize
Hail the horrors, all hail and sanctify
    ...my Domination

    Rotting from the inside out
    ripping away to the core
A million lies unite as one
    slaughtering innocence for evermore

Sound the mighty drums of doom
march to this black heart of fate
    Clawing, tearing, slashing deep
    defiantly fighting our fate

    I, with darkest insurrection, victimize
Hail the horrors, all hail and sanctify
    ...my Domination

Turn the waters red with rage
burn all the earth shore to shore
Open wide the Gates of Hell
    defile the Babylon Whore

    I, with darkest insurrection, victimize
Hail the horrors, all hail and sanctify
    ...my Domination
    ...my Domination

I wore my Slayer shirt one SUnday morning on the 4 train and there were many Baptist families riding to Mass. They saw the shirt and looked at me like I was the devil. So I put on the most evil shit I could find and I put that on full volume.

Off the top of my head you would probably enjoy the bolded bands based on what you said.

I used to have the Reign in Blood shirt in the 80s with the "do you wanna die" blood writing on the back,it had the big green demon the front. That would be perfect for your Sunday train ride.

  12. Slayer shirts are nothin...

Some of my deicide, krisiun and cannibal corpse shirts used to literally make people hold onto their crucifix neecklace as they walked past me.

it might not be quite "metal", but the new between the buried and me album is absolutly gold. i highly, HIGHLY suggest it, it combines really metal guitar riffs with some really heavy vocals, and some of the most insane guitar solos i've ever heard. they might be the most talented band ive heard recently

Picked up my Maiden tickets today... First time in Aus since 1993, just a little excited.

And my friend wanted to go see Trivium over them!.

It's not just the usual shitty metalcore with watered-down gothenburg riffs, hardcore vocals, and breakdowns is it?

    I fucking HATE breakdowns.

I went to see High On Fire last Tuesday, a must-see if you are into doom. Also saw Obituary play on Wednesday night. They never get old.

their first album had breakdowns, but that was 6 or 7 years ago. they've matured alot as a band and colors shows that. on the entire cd, theres one breakdown, and it fits in well with the song. i really can't describe it, but its a must hear
