I disagree. with the way this team is playing now, the only thing that should keep Willie's job is making the WS. not long ago home field advantage in the NLCS was almost a lock, now, even if we win the division we may have to go on the road for the NLCS. and if we lose again in the NLCS, it can be argued that having to go on the road for it is part of the reason, and that would trace right back to this awful stretch of losses. so, making the NLCS, in and of itself, isn't good enough for me if this team has played itself out of home field.
Guys you just have to know, no matter how bad all the fans want Willie fired, it is just not going to happen. Even if we finish the collapse and miss the playoffs Willie will be back for at least one more year. If he wins back to back division titles for the first time in franchise history, I would say there is no chance he gets fired, no matter what happens in the playoffs.
I'm not part of the Fire Willie campaign, but he needs to both protect his players, and instill more discipline in them. If someone needs to get tossed he should take the bullet.
As you could see from the game thread, this is one that I don't put on Willie's doorstep. There was absolutely nothing Willie could do to prevent Milledge from being a jackass in that situation. On the other hand, if you want to wonder why there have been several examples of the team losing its cool and showing a lack of discipline, I think that that is fair.
Your probably right though to me it's like the old case for Herm. Are you just happy making the playoffs. Guys like junc would say Yes because he made it 3 out 5 years. Guys like champ would say no because only winning the championship is acceptable. I think there has to be something in the middle and I think taking steps foward is a huge step. Obviously you can't always take steps foward as in Mangini's case the team was not nearly as good as they appeared to, plus in only a 16 game season there is no room for a slump and very little margin for error. This very disapointing season falls squarly on Omar and Willie and something needs to be done about it. If the Mets truly want to prove they are for real they need to sed out a statement that failure will not be accepted.
I think I first asked this a couple weeks after Mota came back and I'll ask it again. Mota and Schoeneweis are still on the team?
With this guy's strike zone and the offspeed junk that Pedro is throwing, this looks like it's going to be a another long night for the bullpen. Gulp.
i really can't take these constant phillies updates. are there actually people that enjoy those things? i want to throw something at my tv every 5 seconds when its mentioned.
i'm trying to watch the mets lose, not hear gary and keith talk about the phillies game. "austin kearns bases loaded walk in the first!!!!!!!!!!!" *5 seconds later* "ryan howard hr!!!!one!!!!!"
Looks like it could be another bad start for the Mets. Who'd have thought that Pelfrey would be the only one to come up big?
And now a ball goes through Cabrera's legs for another unearned run. The Marlins are certainly doing their best to let the Mets back in this game.
