I'm bored and watching the game tonight. Anyone else? Any players to watch? Also, how ugly are the Hurricanes' Jerseys?
I dunno why Javarris James doesn't get any more cred. The kid can flat out play. Plus he's got pedigree.
I don't like either team, so I didn't watch any of it. I agree that the Miami unis are weird. I don't like the removal of the names from the back of the jerrseys.
Very happy about the display tonight...The offense and defense collectively put a very good performance tonight. Score should of been worse, but i'm happy nonetheless. 1st win for Randy Shannon against a ranked team...
Big win for the Canes tonight! Wright looked good for a change, defense was dominant. hopefully this can get them back in the right direction
That was Shannon's decision going into the season, to establish a team mentality. Good win for the Canes against ATM
ESPN did a profile on Shannon last night. What a miserable life he has had. His father was murdered when he was 2. He had 1 sister and three brothers all die of drug addiction and aids.
i do, if you think about it Miami has such a reputation now and i think hes trying to get rid of the whole "The U" mentality. in a sense that players think theyre instantly the shit since theyre at a pro factory college. time for people to perform well enough they force fans to look up the number on their jersey to get to know the name.
If there was one Miami player and then you cloned him I could see having no names on uniforms. I hear all these bullshit reasons why coaches take names off of uniforms. None ever work for me.
The Gators won the national title last season and they have names on their uniforms. Are they not a team?
The Gary Smith story in the 9/10/07 Sports Illustrated is better. Much of it is due to the fact Smith is a brilliant writer- SI's best.
But it's different, Miami has been sucking it up the past couple years but they still had the cocky mentality of being the U. Shannon wants to humble this team and he believes that this one way of doing it.
Sorry I didn't see this before. The names off of the jerseys are to get the players to stop that they are automatically the sh*t just for stepping on the field, like a few people have already said. It's to get it back to the days where they were playing as a team, where each guy was excited for his teammate's success, things like that that contribute to a healthy team, and a winning team. Saying that UF won with names is pointless, because that wasn't a problem on that team. It's very, VERY clearly been a problem at Miami for a number of years, and I'd have to say that it was a smart move in improving team morale. If there's one thing that coach Shannon has brought, it's an excitement, not just on the field, but on the sidelines as well that I haven't seen from the Canes since they won the title. There was a play against A&M that Shannon ran off the sideline to congratulate Dedric Epps in a great effort breaking some tackles for a first down, you could see even Epps was a little surprised that Randy was that fired up. Going from Coach Clappy to a guy that's been in your exact situation is a definite boost for the players, and in time that'll translate to the field in a big way. And a great job in all facets by the Canes. Wright played his ass off, and Jevarris James continues to impress the hell out of me. Also, that tackle Kenny Phillips made in the open field on Goodson was a thing of beauty, the exact reason he's a top ten guy.
I have no clue why no names would improve morale. It's a bunch of nonsense. I want to see the names, so I don't have to go on the internet to find out who the guys are. I also suspect family members and friends of the players enjoy seeing their loved ones names.
