T.O. Fined for TD Celebration AP Sports Posted: 2007-09-19 22:19:54 Filed Under: NFL http://sports.aol.com/story/_a/to-fined-for-td-celebration/20070919213309990001 IRVING, Texas (Sept. 19) - After seeing the videotape of Terrell Owens' latest touchdown celebration, the NFL office wasn't laughing. Owens said Wednesday he was fined "a good chunk of money" - which he later defined as thousands of dollars - for a celebration that included him using the goal post and football to poke fun at the New England Patriots' spying scandal during Dallas' 37-20 victory over Miami this past Sunday. A league spokesman said the fine was $7,500. "It wasn't even the fact I used the goal post as a prop," Owens said. "They said I used the ball." Beyond being confused about what he can and can't do, Owens is frustrated by the league's policing of end-zone scenes. "It's kind of hard to understand the rules," he said. "It's like you can't do nothing no more. ... Dude, it's like they're trying to find any way to take fun out of the game. So I'm kind of limited right now as far as what I can do." T.O. plotted his celebration days before, after getting suggestions from callers on his weekly radio show. He said he likes making them timely. Now, though, he's going to be more careful with what he does. "Nothing's worth getting a fine for," he said. Owens said he'll consider an appeal, but "it may not even be worth it." How about saving his act until he gets to the sideline? "I guess so," he said. "Next, they're going to be saying you can't go to the sidelines." __________________________________________________________ Ah the Belichick defense. "I misunderstood the rules".
Ain't that the truth. 3 rules I don't like. You can't celebrate a sack You can't celebrate a TD TAUNTING. God I hate that one.
There is room for both celebrating and sportsmanship. I take issue with the taunting that used to be done more widely... getting excited about a big play is acceptable to me. These guys aren't robots out there. They work hard and when they get a big play they should be able to take 5 seconds or so and jump around, or spike the ball. The problem is when you get crap like TO it just becomes a drawn out distraction. I guess by the league pulling the plug on everything it makes it easier for the refs to distinguish between what is too much.
That's it exactly. The last thing anyone wants is a referee having to decide this on a case-by-case basis (which is wht was happening when it first started), so they pass a strict rule that makes enforcement easy. In any event, I'm old-fashioned in this regard. Nobody ever accused Jim Brown or our own Don Maynard (for example) of not caring, yet they didn't feel the need to do this crap. TO's stunt was clever, in fact, but that's all it was - a completely choreographed stunt, having nothing to do with excitement or passion, or (in fact) football. The need for these rules arose because the only things these guys care about is getting on SportsCenter, allowing them to get bigger contracts and more endorsements.
Hes being modest. wtf is 7,500 dollars to him...Thats the equivalanet of about 3 dollars to me... He wanted to say, striahgt cash homie probably but didnt wanna offend goodell.
While a Jets quarterback is laying on the ground after being sacked you'd be okay with a member of the other team pointing at the QB and enjoying a laugh?
I think TO has every right to do that celebration. Maybe he was cheated too. For those that didn't see it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKFP4g5IH6A  I loved it.
You at Boston Uni huh? I had a mental 2 weeks at Chesbutt Hill in the early 90's , great great great times. Love Boston , shame about the Football team
It became a shame when they made Gastineau stop. That was awesome watching him stand over the QB he had just sacked. After that it was a joke. Walk away 5 yards and then celebrate.
Okay. Well that's what it's about. You either get it all or you get nothing. I prefer nothing. Leave the taunting in pro wrestling.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/092007dnspocowdate.303f90f.html "The NFL fined Owens on Wednesday for violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 of the official league rules that state, "possession or use of foreign or extraneous object(s) that are not part of the uniform during the game on the field or the sideline, or using the ball as a prop." That was the reason given. Now if he did not use the ball as a prop but did the camera celebration anyway, do you think he would have been fined? I do. Some of what he does is funny and some is just retarded. I'm all for celebrations, especially if they are funny. I'm not for celebrations like the one he did to dallas a few years back. He ruined it for himself.
Girls... worse then the NCAA, did anyone see that Michigan RB (the backup not Hart) do the worm on the middle of the field after Michigan took their last knee today? They're much more fun...
