Foley beat Oakland during a skit of like several years of us going out to Oakland and continusly loosing . Then he had an Amazing season opener Against the Forty niners which we lost and then that was the end of Glenn Foley. Then Came Vinny T who during his one year of glory is the only time in Recent history that we have had a dominate football team!

I thought this Thread would be about mentioning more than two "Saviors".

How about Richard Todd taking over after Namath.

Boomer Esiason gave us Super Bowl dreams after a Few Games.

Chad Pennington in '01 saving that season.

Vinny Testaverde after leading us in 98 gave us Super Bowl Hopes for 1 Qtr. in 99.

Well you have to be impressed in how KC stood up to the rush then said take this & that. That shows both fortitude as well as ability to get the job done under the most adverse conditions. Every NYJ fan should be giving him kudos for his performance. How do you think happy feet/noodle arm CP would have handle the BR rush. Probably 5 INTs & running for his life would be the reply if you were not a homer like you are

Kudos for his performance? What good is his performance if he lost, huh? According to your backwards logic.

Senility must be kicking your ass big time this week because you already forgot about the Pats consistent beat down they gave Penny, yet instead of 5 INTS he managed two TD's instead. Where are your kudos for our starting QB?

Well since little was expected of KC makes what he produced his special. Also since this team is going NOWHERE no matter what you may choose to believe then it is time to see if KC can make this year at least a year of hope for us vs what CP has given us in his tenure as starting QB of the NYJs. I am sure you do not wish to mention that CP has never been a all pro right? Has a noodle arm right? Cannot throw long right? Cannot throw a sideline pattern with zip right? It is amazing as how you & other fans hero worship players who really have never/ever produce a CHAMPIONSHIP for there team

The New York Jets and possibly the SB and merger of the leagues were built on the back of a savior brought in by Sonny Werblin.

I am no hero worshiper. I am just smart enough to know that Chad is an above average QB and gives us our best chance to win on Sunday. While that has the possibility of changing in the future, it is what it is today. And he throws the football far better than you and your short-sighted friends give him credit for. The real issue with some of you is that you live in the past. You are waiting for your next Joe Namath and he is not likely to show anytime soon. In the meantime, how about trying to find a way to win some football games. I just love this defeatist attitude some of you have. :breakdance:

I don't get the personal attacks, the age discrimination and the general stupidity of your response? Champ like a few other of us know what a great QB can do for a team. It changes the entire tenor of the franchise of one that's merely in the pack to one that has a true building block toward greatness. Champ and a few of us on this board saw it with our own eyes back in the mid and late 60's. Forgive us for being excited by a young, tuff QB with a quick release, a solid arm and a chance to glimps at what might be.

Your right we are living in the past because the present is rather dull don't you think? We are at best a middle of the pack team with a pop gun QB and frankly having seen great, it's not very exciting or promising.

Some people get excited about station wagons and minivans and while they might be very practical, they tend to be a little dull to take out on a Sunday drive on a beautiful fall day.

Well I guess your eyes & my eyes see the team differently & just let it cgo at that which means you you go your way & I will go my way & time will will tell who was more correct in there assessment of us this year & into the next few years as well

I could be making this up -- but I recall that Nagle came into the NFL after winning the Fiesta Bowl and throwing for something like 200 yards in the first half. I actually watched that game and he was unbelievable.

Didnt he get hurt though with the jets? He had a big time arm.

Foley never really got a chance here iirc.

I don't recall, it was a long time ago, but I think after that game he just struggled the rest of the way and ended up being a another flop. I just remember hating the Jets FO for keeping O'Brien out of camp -- I think we had a good team that year too...

You say it was good, I say Foley's arm was average. Close enough. Scale of 1-10, I might go with a 6.

I understand what you are saying about Nagle. Of course, circa early 1992 season, nobody yet knew he'd be sort of wussified as an NFL QB. I did not begin to follow college football till 1992, so I had no clue about Nagle till he played in preseason in 1991.

Also, somebody noted the Jets went 4-0 in the 1992 preseason. They actually went 5-0. The 1992 Jets and 2006 Raiders are two teams who won more preseason games than regular season games!

My thing with Clemens is I saw him play a number of times at Oregon. Next to the Big East, my favorite conference is the Pacific-10 and I love watching the late night Saturday games. So I saw Clemens play plenty. I was highly impressed with his toughness, moxie, and comeback ability. I expect that to translate to the NFL because he has the physical tools to play at the highest level.

No typical "Jets luck" is picking Ken O'Brien ahead of Marino and Kelly. Now that's "Jets luck"!

i am a chad supporter too, but how is cham senile? just because he is an older fan and has seen more then u and i? i am only 22, but my dad is 56 and he knows more about the jets then anyone ive met or read on this board (no offense) and if he wasn't so busy working/not understanding the internet lolol, we would have the absolute priveledge of getting his insight and opinion, i have nothing but the upmost respect for u champ, in addition to all older jet fans who have tasted championship jet football, thank u for helping us younger jet fans take pain and suffering in stride!!

Yes, he lost, 20-17. The Jets were down 17-0 after the first quarter, so Nagle put on a classic Elvis Grbacian Performance (that's when you throw for, like, a whole bunch of yards and stuff because the other team softens up their coverage). Nagle was 21 of 37 for 366 yards. Drew Brees had a huge EGP last year, I think against the Bengals.

The following week Nagle got bamboozled in Pittsburgh. Barry "Bananas" Foster put 190 yards rushing on the Jets ass.
Nagle and Ken O'Brien combined to go 10 of 33 with 4 interceptions. One or two of those picks belonged to O'Brien, if I recall correctly. O'Brien was 1 of 4 (or 5 or 6) and had an unsightly 1.6 passer rating- again IIRC.
