well there you guys/gals have it........12 or 13 minutes of KC fame against a pretty angry defense and still without a running game to bail us out....

very interesting developments during that 4th quarter....

the jets found out a couple things yesterday. first they can likely remove QB from the offseason prep list which is growing by the week at other positions and second that they actually do possess a downfield passing game in their playbook that can make even the stingiest defense look a bit uncomfortable.

before you CP lovers come to his defense - i credit his toughness, poise and comeback - and am grateful for his efforts during the previous playoff years despite a staff and head coach that had their brains in their asses most of the time.

but the clock is ticking and the jets should phase in KC during the rest of this regular season. it wont be a cutler-plummer thing or a leinart-warner thing or even a todd-robinson thing but the jets need to get playing time for their hand picked 2nd rounder and prepare for life after pennington.

we are taking a few steps back this year to weed out some vets, solidify some positions, and create a framework heading into next offseason that will be a boost going into seasons 08 and 09. i am excited about it even though i have my darksider moments but there will be some pieces in place that SHOULD provide us with hope very soon.

this year will be tough as year 2 in many rebuilding efforts is because there is usually a change at the QB spot which has the most impact of any position bar none we are 0-2 now which can easily evolve into a 5-11, 6-10 campaign so....

if the jets are looking at a 2-6, 3-5 1st half record - i say KC gets the nod in week 9. until then CP is the starter and he should play when healthy. IMO he has deserved that treatment for now even though it appears that the jets offense is ready to move on.

so thats all these message boards need after spygate, a blossoming QB controversy here in NY.

gotta love the jets - there are never any dull moments.

I'd rather throw in the white towel when we have to, not when we are only 0-2

I agree with you, jil. KC isn't coming in this season as some kind of saviour, as this teams problems are not QB related. I would say, however, that Leon Washington should get more carries then he did yesterday. Jones seems to have issues finding the hole when there is one there.

And I'm assuming that McCareins, whom I am through defending, is one of the vets that need to be weeded out.

I agree with your thinking, for the most part.

But we cannot ignore the glaring issues we have on the offensive line. If they don't start doing a better job, it will not matter mans the QB position, they will both look bad. or worse, we may see Tuiasosopo getting playing time due to injuries to both Chad and Kellen.

As I said before, Chad will be in Kansas City or Atlanta next season.

People it was only 1 QUARTER! He was lost for the first 3. Let Chad play and lose the jopb on his play not what Clemens's did in the 4th quarter of yesterday's game. QB right now is the least of our problems. THE OL and defense should be our #1 concern.

I am going to throw my thoughts about the running game here, whether it is Penny or KC at quarterback, we have to go into our strengths on offense, and I think with that the pass:rush ratio with this team should be at least 60:40 if not more like 65:35. We put ourselves into a hole when we tried to establish the running game, but instead we need to use the pass to setup the run. When we are passing the ball to Cotchery and Coles I don't think there is a team that could really stop us. We passed it well on NE and when we finally got down to it we passed it well on Baltimore. And those were 2 of the best defenses in the NFL

I liked what I saw from KC yesterday, however, Pennington when he had the ball, against NE, twice went through their defense like a hot knife through butter.

And yes, if we aren't 3-2 after 5, It's time to think about making the transition.

However, we have a very nice little run of games through thanksgiving.

(including a nice advantage for the Dallas game, since it comes just behind the Bye week for us, not so for them. We have two weeks to prepare for two games, they have four days to prepare for Thanksgiving.)

I think Pennington is done with the Jets after this season. He'll be traded somewhere. Jacksonville or Minnesota are likely destinations.

Jackson in Minn has been Crap so far, but David Garrard has been very good for the Jags. If he keeps it up I doubt they would be a trade partner.

Perhaps a place like Atlanta, or maybe the Bears could use him. Do the Bucs need a 7th QB?

I can't really see Chad being the starter next year unless KC does something to derail his own chances.

Offensively, you do not have long term success in this league without a consistent running game. To become a dominant offense, you have to run the ball.

From what I saw yesterday, I agree. There are a lot of teams out there that need a QB. A few of them would be perfect fit for Chad, Bears & Ravens, Rex sucks ass, McNair is 200 and Boller is a loser. Both have great defenses and just need a QB to manage the game, that's CP and a SB berth written all over it. We could probaly get a 2nd round Pick for him too.

Jacksonville has scored 23 points in two weeks. If that keeps up Gerrard will not be the starting QB for long.

I really think a place like Jacksonville would be a great fit for Chad. Baltimore and Chicago are others.

Pennington is a valuable veteran backup and should be kept as long as he wishes. The only way I see a trade happening is in the event that he couldn't live with being a backup and wanted to be traded to a team where he had a legit shot at becoming a starter.

Which most likely would be the case.

If you were Chad, you would rather be a backup here when there's teams with dogshit QBs starting for them? Chad is an upgrade for Baltimore, Jacksonville, Chicago and Minnesota, possibly others.

No way he stays here if he loses his job.

Exactly. Clemens should NOT be handed the reigns next week, effectively ending the Pennington era in NY. However, there is no way Chad should be in Green and White next season, and Clemens needs to get more reps in game situations, with a possible full switch coming later in the season if the record dictates it.

Agreed. Spent much of the Chargers-Pats game last night on the phone with my brother in law, who is a retired 12 year NFL vet and big Chargers fan. He said he'd rather have Pennington in there than Rivers, and he's not a Pennington guy. It takes a specific team for Pennington to be a SB type QB, and the teams you mentioned have the right type of talent in the right places for CP to be successful.

Chad is the starter. If and when he deserves to lose the title of starting QB then Kellen will be given a shot. kellen has now proved that he has "promise". He may very well one day be a starting NFL QB. Maybe sooner than he or anyone thinks. Who knows? But for now Chad is not only the starting QB for the Jets, but he is a great starting QB. Until Chad proves that he is not up to the task, he will stay where he is. Starting.

To tell you guys the gods honest truth. My friend is a Packers fan. Packers fans stick with Favre through thick and thin. They love him even when Favre is throwing up picks like he is playing for the oposing team.

Some of you guys honestly make me sick as a Jet fan. Please do not read to much into that or take offense. But Chad has shown me exactly what I look for in a Jets starting QB. Guts, Glory, and Class. He has come though multiple shit storms and major adversity and come out leading the Jets to improbible playoff births with tools that well, either its Herms rediculous clock screwups and terrible Oline preparation, or its an entirely new offense, defense, with rookies not only starting on the oline but coaching as well.

To me Chad is a hero, not unlike Chrebet. Both have sacrificed themselves and have proven time and time again that they belong exactly where they are and were. Even in the face of their own fans and critics screaming that they don't have the physical tools to get the job done.

Chad is my QB for my team. Nothing against Kellen, I think he showed promise yesterday in the 4th. But to me Kellen Clemens will have some very big freaking shoes to fill if and when he gets the chance to be the starting QB for the Jets. And at that point, I have no doubt that he could gain my respect as well as the rest of you. But that time has NOT come yet.

Some of the best offensive teams did it without the running game being the main option. Trying to run into a brick wall over and over again isn't going to help our team at all. I am saying not so much to give up the running game but try to use it a lot less since it is clearly not effective

Kellen Clemens proved he's worthy of more playing time yesterday. Problem is, Pennington still gives us our best chance (right now) to win, because he's more experienced, and that, plus his leadership skills and smarts, more than offsets his lack of arm strength.

So, what to do? Truthfully, I Mangini doesn't necessarily have to do anything right now except wait, because I think one of three things happens:

    1) Penny plays next week and all the remaining weeks and miraculously remains injury-free while somehow taking us to the playoffs again, probably the most unlikely of scenarios given our O-line, our continued lack of a convincing running attack, and our DEFs mysterious on-again, off-again run defense. And especially with no deep ball to stretch the DEF, a smattering of which we saw yesterday, this scenario is probably not going to happen.

    2) Pennington goes back in this Sunday against the Dolphins and looks bad enough comparitively this week and next to get grounded while the season is young, but a dismal 0-4 and heading downhill. Given this is Chad Pennignton we're talking about, with all the "intangibles" he brings to the club, this scenario is as unlikely as Scenario #1, but probably one the most knuckleheaded of fans will be clamoring for.

    3) With the continuing looks of our O-line, Pennington won't make it through the rest of the season. This is not something I'm wishing for, mind you, but I couldn't help thinking yesterday that were Chad in there yesterday instead of Clemens, they would have been carting him off on a stretcher. It's a much more likely scenario than scenario #1 that Chad gets injured again and Clemens automatically tries to pick up the pieces of the season and gains the valuable experience I think he deserves for next year. If it's too late for us, and we wind up 9-7 or 8-8 despite a valiant attempt by Clemens to salvage the season, at least he gets the playing experience under his belt.
