Maybe I'm the only one who noticed this, but very rarely did we run in shotgun or pass under center. It seems like the playcalling as far as the formations go, was very predictable. And that's something that was kind of disturbing to me, because a team like the Ravens is going to pin their ears back and blitz the shit out of a team like us with a very shitty pass blocking line. Every time we went in shotgun other then two draws in the fourth, we passed. We rarely passed under center. Schotty needs to vary his playcalls to his formations more, because if I noticed it, I'm sure teams around the league will notice it too.

I also don't like the idea of the quarterback sneak as often as we do it. Yes if we can catch them substituting then we should do it. But if we don't, then we have a full play clock for whoever the quarterback is, to check off of the play and run a play that will get us more then half a yard.

exactly what i was saying in the game thread. Schott just ran the ball up the middle every first down. It was only until the jets needed yards fast in the fourth that the playcalling was good. You saw them spread the ball and use KC to his full potential. Schott is looking like Hackett in the beginning of the game and although JMac dropped the TD passes, it is brian's fault that the jets were even in that position. absolutely horrible playcalling

What the hell was Schottenheimer supposed to do, throw an unproven QB into a game against the Ravens using all trick plays? He kept it simple for the young guy early.

Heck what really bothered me was that we had 1st and goal from the 7 with well over a minute and 2 time outs, why we didn't just run the ball a couple times. I would've been happy with even a QB draw. I know the running game sucked but Jones did avg a whopping 2.7 yards (what a joke). So if he just hits his avg on 3 plays its a TD.

    Agreed.

(discalimer: Probably since I just don't want to get owned by the angriest bee in the duffel bag.)

That's not what I was saying at all, but you also can't call the game like a preseason game. I just would've liked to see a little more playaction and atleast some dropbacks from under center. You neutralize blitzes with quick three step drops and quick passes. It didn't seem like we started doing this until the 3rd, and then we could go vertical.

I think Schotty has found what Kellen's groove is, it is deep 15-20 yard out routes and down the field passes, it isn't the 6 yard in/out routes or the button hooks to the sidelines with this kid.

However, with the Ravens blitzing EVERY down, I would've liked to see some more screens to LW, but thinking about it on the two we attempted one nearly turned into a TD the other way and the other went for -2 yards.

TJ should do some more outside running and not trying to move the pile. I'd like to see the O-line give him some more room, but then again, I'd like to win the lottery.

I don't know, seeing how Clemens was dancing around early, I would have been a little tentative to throw the 3-step drops into the mix early. He might have 4 INTs instead of 2. I agree about the play-action, though.
