I agree 100%. Its what I am have been trying to articulate for the longest time. And the Ravens are a perfect example of a team Chad will never beat. The first Raider playoff game was a real indicator of CP when he's on the road against a fast & physical defense. I would rather go with the unknown then the know tomorrow. I just hope Clemens shows real hope because I get the feeling Chad is going to be out for a few weeks. Who knows, maybe it will be the end of the Chad era.
If you really read the #s it shows he can bring us back and has, i's not his fault his teammates let him down in certain comebacks but he's led us back to tie or take the lead many times and really my point was(and it was proven) that we don't get down double digits ealry w/ Chad nearly as much as we did w/ vinny so i'd rather have the QB that keeps us in the game than the one that can help us comeback after getting down big. I gave Vinny credit for that win and the Buf win in '02 even though Vinny had little to do w/ that comeback. Vinny's record was 8-15 not 9-5 and Chad is 2-14(also beat oak in '03) and once again came back multiple times(NYG, Indy, SL, Chi,... but teammates let him down) AND Chad has lost ONCE when up double digits(cle in '02 and that was Chrebet's fault) while vinny has done it 4 times. Why do we stop at 2002 w/ vinny's #s? he played in '03 and '05? When D holds opponent to less than 20: Vinny: 25-7 Chad: 27-4 It's still close but it favotrs Chad and yet again Chad doesn't put us in position to be down big and when up big he doesn't let teams back in like Vinny did. Vinny ha thebest year of any Jets QB in 1998 then was medicore for the rest of his jets career, Chad had maybe the 3rd or 4th best season by a Jets QB and has been alot etter than mdicore the rest of his Jets career. I wish Chad had vinny's arm b/c then we'd be unstoppable but i'd still take the smater QB over the more physically gifted QB if that physcally gifted QB is prone to mental errors.
So Chad is supposed to do it by himself? remember that oak game was tied 10-10 very late in the 3rd qtr. In that game Coles dropped a potential TD, had a HUGE penalty on a Santana reverse and sat there and watched the game changing INt late in the 3rd when he easily could have broken it up and Chrebet had a huge penalty and dropped hat would have been a big 1st down deep in oak territory. it's hard to do it by yourself, ask vinny about the Denver game in 1998. The ravens are a perfect example of a team Chad can't bat? They are a team the jets can't beat. whethr it wasfoly in 1998, Vinny in 2000, Quincy in '04 or Brooks in '05 we haven't been able to beat them since they became good. Remember Chad did beat up NE in a game that essenially was for the div on the road in 2002, the next week he thrashed 12-3 GB fighting for homefield, the following week he gave indy their most embarrasssing playoff loss, in '03 he beat the hottest team in football on a Mon night against tennessee, in '04 he beat SD TWICE on the road, last year he beat NE on th road. He's beaten plenty of good teams.
We stop at 2002 because that's when Vinny stopped being an effective NFL QB. Chad's numbers in his last couple of seasons won't look that pretty either. It's called factoring in the aging of an athlete. Hank Aaron hit .229 with 10 homers his last year. He hit .234 with 12 the year before that. Nobody who was describing his peak performances would touch those two seasons with a ten foot pole in the conversation. Same for Vinny.
So we stop in '02 for vinny but we use chad's3s w/ a torn rotator cuff? The bottom line is if he played we use the #s. Vinny was more than capable in 2003 of playing well, he played decently for dallas in '04 and he won a game for us in 2005. if you want to take out vinny's "old #s" then we take out Chad's injured #s.
It was his left, non-throwing wrist. We started 5-0 the following season with Chad at QB. Come on, man.
As long as we have a Crappy D, and a Crappy O, it doesn't matter who you have at QB or RB or WR or TE, your team will always suffer.. you might get close, but you will never ever make it to the superbowl. Our team has consistantly had a horrible O, and a little better D.
I am not saying your opinion is wrong. As a Chad supporter though, you are proving my initial point that you prefer the conservative don't lose style and philosophy of football that Chad excels at, and now forces you into.
That is the argument in a nut case right there. No matter how great you D and O line is or how great your special teams is, there is going to come a team or game when the jets need to be picked up off the mat..... AND CHAD CAN NOT DO THIS. I'm ready for Clemens(in week four.....LOL)
Yeah, but I think he and seafood been saying that in their post from the jump. Chad is the kind of horse that wins all those little races in California and is blown out in the triple crown races. 5 years of winning those races never amounts to winning the Derby, Preakness or Belmont once. Get me the latter horse!!!!!!!!!
With the 4th best defense in the league and the NFL's leading rusher off to a blistering start against weak opposition. Give me a break. The schedule got tougher and Chad got hurt and the Jets season turned into more of the status quo from 1999 to 2004.
I partially agree with the original poster solely because the Jets as a team have played more not to lose than play to win the last 6 years, chad just happens to have fallen into that conservative approach...I won't be the least bit surprised when he is traded to Minnesota and they win the SB... Chad will go down as our best QB since namath because he is...I'm no chad lover/hater but simply put he has brought us to respectibility...this current team is flawed especially the Oline and frankly chad has never had a great oline,he is no brady but with the current Pats offense he wins the SB... The jets as a team have never really had game breaking players since Chads been here with probably the exception of Abraham...whats the difference between Chad and C.Martin in terms of decisiveness in wins/losses? Martin may have led the league in rushing but he was never a game breaker and by year end Jones will be doing his numbers maybe more... Chrebet/Martin/Chad/Ellis/Vilma/Coles/Nugent/Miller/....that is the Jets for you...Solid but not great...we are a team built to make the playoffs but not win the SB...with the current youth on all levels from coach to center who knows how far we can go but Chad is who i thought he was...not the problem Chad= Rothslberger(s.p)....a good Q/B but not solely the product of the teams success/failure...
10-6, won a playoff game at San Diego, got one kick from the AFC Championship Game. Yeah, status quo.
Got one kick... counts in horsheshoes and hand grenades. The Jets had no chance at all to go all the way in 2004, as they have not had any chance since 1998. The first good team they ran into playing top of their game was going to end it. The fact that the Steelers played such a bad game against the Jets and still won kind of clinches that notion.
All I know is that I saw today a QB that can WIN games for us, and his name is Kellen Clemens. His improvement through the game was remarkable and in the fourth quarter he not only played as well as Chad ever has, he showed intelligence, game management skills, presence and an arm that Chad has never had. He should be our starter the rest of the year. He is definitely our future and needs to start NOW.
He played really well after coming back in 2003. he had 12 T in his first 5 games back then teams realized he basically ha 1 guyto troto and took him away then he struggled but before egot hurt in '04 he had a rating over 100 gain and we were 6-1. Weak opposition like 9-7 Buf and 12-4 SD on the road giving the Chargers their only reg season loss at SD that year. I love the excuses you guys make. The man played w/ a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder and even w/ that if our K makes 1 of 2 makeable kicks we go to the title game. Yep we sawa QB who CAN win games but never has meanwhile we have a QB who doesnothing but wn games and he's bashed. So KC will come in then 3 years down the road the fas will be calling for the next QB in line bashing KC for reasons we'l find out about soon. i love it, we saw a QB who can win yet he lost yet we bash the QB that wins and the reason we didn't in was b/c of KC's struggles through 3 qtrs. The D wasn't great but it wasn't the D, it wasn't the STs who also struggles it was Clemens not being able to lead our O.
This is what gets me. Against the Jags and Bears Pennington did absolutely nothing last year. The "2 kicks away" game against the Steelers he did virtually nothing, managing only 3 offensive points in 5 quarters of football, don't forget the DEFENSE got the ball into position those times. Why is it okay when Pennington fails, but you'll get on KC for failing for 3 quarters and actually doing something at the end? Pennington did the exact same thing against the Browns last year, who aren't nearly as good as the Ravens on defense. It's like Chad is held to a different standard which is absolutely absurd. Hold both QBs to the same standard or don't even bother at all. It's ridiculous.
