Jets looked like crap until foley got the boot and vinny took over. all a team needs is a little spark. now looks like chad may hit the bench due to the injury and maybe we will see another 1998. man some people on here piss me off. i dont even wanna log on anymore. So negative. i was mad as hell yesterday leaving the game so mad i didnt even sleep good or watch any other football but its week one. we look like babies we got beat no excuse who sucked and who didnt they all were bad. its a team game they all did bad. we can beat ravens. we can beat anybody. turnovers, special teams thats enough to turn the game around we have the special tema guys. shit if rhodes picks off that pass yesterday that was td all the way, the kick return well bowens had him, and moss beating 3 defenders that dont happen everyday. it was just patruiots day everything went their direction. last year after the 41-0 jag loss we looked done but bounced back. have some hope. man i was so excited bout this season until i read some posts on here then i just lose my spirit

People here are inherently negative and mostly unrealistic, don't let them bring you down.

Here's a few for you to kick around:

1981: Lost opener 31-0 at Buffalo, finished 10-5-1, hosted playoff game

1982: Lost opener big at home to Miami, went to AFC Championship game

1985: Lost opener 31-0 at LA Raiders, went 11-5, hosted playoff game

1998: Lost opener at SF, started 0-2, finished 12-4, won AFC East, went to AFC Championship game

2001: Lost opener at home to Indianapolis, went 10-6, made the playoffs

    There's time.

Right on. It's a marathon not a sprint.

While I agree that it's too soon to panic, the season opener in '98 was a VERY different game. I was there for that one. We hung in with a very good 49ers team for the entire game and only lost in OT because Garrison Hearst ran the first Niners play from scrimmage for a TD. What was it, 98 yards? Yesterday was a blowout.

We'll be just fine, but 12 - 4 and headed to the AFC Championship we are not.

Incidentally, maybe someone can confirm this, but I'm pretty sure our 2nd game was against the Ravens.

It was, at home, I was there. The opener wasn't as ugly as yesterday but the ones in 1981 and 1985 were uglier.

Can't say I remember. I was just barely 2 and 6 for those, but I surely remember '98. I knew after that game, even while I wanted to throw up after losing that way, that we had something special. Even the SF fans (nicest fans in the world) celebrated for a moment and then turned and started saying "Thanks for a great game. I think you guys are in for one heckuva season."

I didn't get that feeling yesterday, but I also didn't get the sense that the whole season was lost. Just that we have some big problems to address and need to get to work this week.

I agree. Funny thing about the SF game was how excited everyone was to have a healthy Glenn Foley as the future of our team, even in a losing effort. Similar to how everyone felt about Browning Nagle after the 1992 opener in Atlanta. You just never know what happens, especially after one game. The only time we knew was the year Vinny got hurt.

I spent the entire 98 offseason as an obnoxious 18 year old calling for the Jets to sign Vinny Testaverde, and everybody called me crazy. That season showed what happens when you put a QB in the right situation. I wasn't too sold on Foley, but he did play well that day.

Foley could never stay on the field. Makes Chad look like Brett Favre. He was handed the job and couldn't keep it.
