Yup and that was obviously all Chad's fault It had nothing to do with having a HC that was too scared to play to win the game or a kicker that came up small in the biggest of spots.
No I am not blaming yesterday all on him because I know the NYJs lack many, many quality players in many, many positions. It will take years to rebuild them into true SB contenders because of the all the players we require to upgrade the team.
The week before they scored enough to go into SD and beat a better SD team in the playoffs. The last 5 weeks of the season when Chad started playing again with a tear in his throwing shoulder the team scored.. 29 6 37 7 29
Most of his INTs last year were the product of his situation. When he's forced to play from behind and air it out, defenses can key in on the short pass and he's going to throw picks. I should have been more specific. If he's in the right situation, that's not going to happen. If he needs to control a game, he will. Of all his picks last year, 10 came with his team trailing, 2 came with the game tied and 4 while leading (2 against GB, 1 against Minn). All 4 of the INTs he threw with a lead came in blowouts with the game firmly in hand and the playcalling loose, games in which his INTs made no difference. That means he was perfect with a lead in close games. If he gets behind, he become more erratic, as defenses know what he'll attempt to do to come back. If you give him a lead that he has to protect, however, he'll do it. Compare this to Peyton Manning, the BEST QB in the league, who tossed only 9 INTs last season. He also threw 4 INTs when he had a lead. However, all 4 INTs came while he was trying to protect a lead of 7 points or less. Another 2 came while tied. That's 6/9 vs 6/16. Again, put Chad in a situation like Chicago, Baltimore, or San Diego where he's relied upon to protect the lead in close games and he's a SB QB.
Mike Missanelli said it best today on the Stephen A. Smith Show: "The Job of a Quarterback is to score points and throw touchdown passes." I love Chad, but he doesn't get us enough points or TD Passes, and he doesn't have the arm to pressure the defense...they can sit back and play soft and wait until the Jets make a mistake...
but don't expect him to be a good qb when we need him to be. we just need a defense that can win games and score a lot of points so the noodle arm can play it safe and not lose the game. gee, you don't want a quality starting qb that can lead your team to victory??? from what your saying, you just want one to play it safe when the rest of the team carries us to victory. lol
Nice. Try to make me say something I didn't. Did you miss my post when I said that the Jets wouldn't win a SB with Chad Pennington because he's in the wrong situation? We NEED a QB right now who can air it out and put points on the board and play well from behind because that's what will happen with our running game and defense. You act like Chad is so completely inept that he can't score points. As far as TDs thrown, he was dead center in the league. Average. Same as Brett Favre, Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Delhomme, etc. I simply said that he can't play well from behind late in games. He can't lead those game winning drives when his team trails. Guess what? In some situations, that's not what the QB has to do. Elway was the king of comebacks, and it took him well into his 30s to win the SB. When did he finally win it? When he had a solid D and a great running game. Chad will help win the game, but he's not a QB who can take the game on his back and win it for you. The Ravens won a SB without that QB, and Dilfer wasn't nearly as good at his role as Chad is. You put Chad on that Ravens team, they may go undefeated.
And you don't see that he put up big numbers against shit defenses and did nothing against the good ones (Pittsburgh - 6, New England - 7) during said stretch? Thanks for proving my point. Look I'm not saying Chad sucks. He doesn't. He's a solid QB. But he's never going to be the type of QB that carries a team on his shoulders.
