What makes any think 2008 is our big jump year?

I've seen a lot of people on this site mention that they think this year will be a slight step back, with a big jump up in record and ability in 2008. What makes anyone think that's possible now that we've seen the incredibly bad product we have on the field? These players looked like they were walking in cement today. The only two players that looked semi-decent, Coles and at time Pennington, are getting old. Here's how bad it looks:

-Nobody on the Defensive Line looks decent, NOBODY, we need 3 new bodies
-On the O line we need a new right tackle, right guard and left guard, even our 4th pick left tackle D-Brick hardly looks like the long term solution
-LBs, at least two needed, Vilma looks bad for theis defense
-CB, Revis might be good, but that's it folks, we need 3 new ones. Miller looked lost
-TIght Ends, what tight ends? Need a new one
-Running Back, not so good, but even if he has a good year, Jones will be 30 next year, old for and RB and Washinton can't be a full time back.

WE ARE STARTING FROM GROUND ZERO NEXT YEAR, IT WILL NOT BE THE YEAR WE PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!!!!!

You're out of your mind. It's one game against a devestating team that took 10 years to build, starting with Parcells. Chill out and stop talking. It's pointless banter. If they're 3-6 by the bye week, I'll come back and say you were right.

That's because you are also an eternal pessimist and, therefore, thinking erratically and saying stupid things. It's one game out of 16. Chill out and quit the doom patrol BS please.

    Thanks,

Not a quesgtion of pessimism. Look at this team. Who generated a pass rush? Who stopped the run? Who opened up running lanes? Who was able to even slightly slow down or break up a Brady pass? This is a talentless team.

I usually don't bash threads that much anymore, but you're preaching doom for the 2008 season in week 1 of 2007? What a dumbass thread.

You are a talentless commentator. The jets will make adjustments, they played a devestating team today. The were outplayed, but not out coached. Brady sat in the pocket long enough to grow a rip van winkle beard today everyone saw that. However, give them a chance before you go pulling this chicken little routine please.

The fact that you think there can be different "talent" levels for posting on a football thread tells me you take this shit way too seriously. I think it's a legitimate question at this point because everyone is like "no big deal, this was a build year anyway", but I'm seeing shit to build on right now.

But I'll try to work on my posting skills so I get a higher "talent" score from you in the future..

Hey Dev Team, based on your avatar, who's the one dopped on depressants?

Agreed. I know the Jets sucked all around today, but it's one game. It would be one thing if this was the last game of the season. There are still 15 left to go.

Talent = how good your point is. In that case, you're a total scrub right now. I need you to perform at a higher level. You're trying to gauge next year's talent after the first game of 2007. That makes no sense and my prevailing thought right now is that you are an inglorious, pedantic moron. When I zoom in on something, prepare to get dominated because I don't waste time on mediocre posts. This one is a nuclear meltdown of stupidity, it's the Chernobyl of theganggreen.com for Sunday, Sept 9th, 2007 -- and you need to take a public message board walk of a shame in my book.

First of all, it is the first game of the 2007 season, and you are already saying all of this. This is the dumbest shit I have ever heard. Half of it isn't even right...

    - First of all Coleman looked AT LEAST decent. He led our team with 12 tackles. It is not his job to get sacks, so he definitely did his job. And while the other two didn't look very good today, Robertson could very well turn into a great player at NT OR DE. So you were 2/3 wrong there. Plus Ellis was good last year, and again, it is only 1 game so far this year.

    - You may be right here, but Moore isn't that bad and can at least hold up that right guard spot solidly for another 2 years. And Bender could end up being something very good, you don't know. So again 2/3 wrong.

    - Vilma has looked bad, but he also could do well. You are basing this on 1 year in a new system plus 1 game. Wait until AT LEAST week 6 this year. Also at least 2 new LBs? So I guess Thomas, Hobson and Harris aren't good LB's now. And niether is Barton.... So at least 3/4 wrong, possibly completely wrong.

    - Well Miller or Barrett is more suited as our #3 CB, plus we have Dyson, which you seemed to have forgotten. So you were totally wrong here.

    - Actually Baker looked very good today on his 2 receptions. Not many TE's get 60+ receptions, so you shouldn't expect that out of him. Baker is a good blocker and a good reciever, we just dont utilize the TE on passing plays very much. Plus we have young guys like Kowalewski and Pociak. Again, totally wrong.

    - Jones has AT LEAST 2 or 3 more years left in him after this one, and Leon can definitely carry the load, as he did last year as a rookie, getting 4.3 yards a carry. Once Jones is done, Leon will be 26 about and be very polished and ready to go. So again, totally wrong.

    Leave.

Well Jet, don't let these posters who can't face reality get you down. I've been a jet fan far longer than most, and if nothing else our history shows we cannot win the big game when required. And thats with teams loaded with talent. We have good, but limited talent. talent that keeps us fairly close to the second echelon, but nowhere good enough for the first. None of our draft picks the last 5 years have produced anyone you would predict would be a standout player in 2007. Good, steady ballplayers, but great- a resounding NO. Why should next year be any different. Will our vaunted o and d line draft picks make heads turn this year? Did anyone see a ray of hope for that from this game? Perhaps our linebackers or backfield guys? Will revis be some kind of savior? Maybe our great running game? Do we have anyone, anyone, who strikes a bit of fear into an opponent?

I've seen frequent progosticators on this site state "This will be a set back year, but it will build to a big jump forward next year", so the question is, what makes people think that next year is a big jump forward? Both lines need to be remade, with the exception of Mangold and D-Brick. Do you disagree? Do you feel what you'll see out of Ellis, Clement, Moore and Robertson over the next 15 games will change your opinion versus the several years of output from them? I don't think so. This game just brought that to the fore, but I could be wrong. However, judging by your "I climbed the top of the church clock tower and took out 15 people because my Daddy never told me he loved me" avatar, perhaps I should back off, I can already see your short temper is not to be underestimated...

It's prognosticators, not "progosticators", alright? When trying to make a point please, PLEASE, at least try to spell correctly -- it totally dismantles your argument because I immediately start to think that you're an idiot. I'm sorry, I can't help it.

I disagree that you can take a single game and focus in on it and try to make predictions for the rest of a season. If I showed you Jaguars-Jets from last year and said "okay, what are the Jets chances this year?" based off of that, you'd say we're going to go 1-15 or 3-13 or whatever -- if that was the first game of the season. That's just asinine. I hope you can at least agree with that.

BTW, my avatar rules. It's a picture of my friend during a sick photo shoot wherein we were wielding various weapons and posing by sick cars and motorcycles. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Though the Jets did none of the things mentioned above...you must remember the Patriots are at the pinnacle of football. Everything the Jets are unable to execute, an excellent team like the Patriots, is able to capitalize on.

The passing game looks good. I am thrilled the Jets even scored 14 on the Pats.

Hey Jetfighter. I'm not going to bash you or call you out, because frankly that's just unnecessary. Like alot of people, I'm disappointed at the team's performance today. But as the other guys have said, don't look to 2008 before we get through 2007. There's alot of football to be played.

Today the Jets ran up against a much better team in all phases of the game. I hope this is a wake up call to not just the team, but also the fans, the 2007 NY Jets are not ready for primetime. Well, not as of September 9, 2007. Who knows, come December 30,2007, this team will look better. Or look worse. But wait, before pronouncing this team dead.
