gotta a surprise folks - we are NOT going to do much better in a 4-3 set either.

no speed rushers and no collapsing DT - without those your MLB is less effective and your other LB's are racking up their tackle numbers 6 yards downfield.

might as well stick with what has been started.

Dude, can I smoke some of what you got? We didn't convert to the 4-3 until Herm climbed the fences in Hempstead.

They played a 3-4 Ellis and Abes first year, and Ellis had (I believe) 8.5 sacks.

Ellis was drafted by Parcells to play the 3-4. He played the 3-4 his rookie year and was great. He had something like 9 sacks and led the d-line in tackles despite starting in only 2 or 3 games. Are you sure you are a Jets' fan?

Ellis wasn't considered a bust in the 3-4...He was considered a bust when he constantly switching between DT and DE. Once he settled in as a DE, he broke out.

I don't think you can solely blame the scheme for the kind of ass whooping we saw today. Pretty much top to bottom the entire defense was absolute garbage today. The Patriots moved up and down the field at will, the only times they didn't score were 2 "unforced" errors, a welker drop when he would've had the first down and the botched FG attempt.

i'm beginning to wonder how much is the personnel and how much falls on playcalling. how many times was there only a three-man rush, what's up with that?

i mean, if you're gonna get burned in the pass game, at least do it bringing the house. we gave up a TD to a guy who was triple-covered, and how many catches did Barrett allow, not to mention the whiff on Welker's TD?

if these things are happening when 8 guys are dropping back, we may as well blitz the fuck out of the QB.

Yeah JAbe was hurt the first half of the season and LB the second half, I remember now.

They had a ton of defensive linemen on that team for a 3-4 team. They must have rotated like crazy.

Did the Jets use Ellis as a DT in 2000? I thought that was a Herm and Ted Cottrell project.

Yes, Ellis at 4-3 3T DT was the stupidity of Herm and Cottrell.

I agree. Seeing Brady just stand back there and have all day to throw was pretty bad. Might as well rush everybody and get some pressure on the QB. Not making any adjustments to try something that might work frustrates the hell out of me.

If we're gonna do this (3-4) Mangini needs to go all in. That means getting rid of Vilma and DRob and getting back something of value.

We also need to spend some money in FA on a premier passrusher and a NT.

If not, then go 4-3. But that means we wasted a pick on Harris and that getting Kenyon Coleman was a waste of money.

Either way, they need to commit.

yeah, it's not like dropping everyone back confused Brady. it just gave him more time to pick the Defense apart.

Play a 3-4 or a 4-3, it doesn't matter. Just don't let Justin Miller play in space.

Our pass defense was ABUSED because our scheme has our corners play 10 yards off the receivers. So once we blitz, tom brady immediately dumps a short pass and lets his receivers make moves on our poor tackling corners. In order for a good blitz to work, the corners have to jump some routes so that Tom has to pull the ball back.

Secondly, we are a 4-3 team hands-down. Who cares if Bryan Thomas will get hurt by that move, I dont think hes all that good anyway. He was NON-EXISTANT today. He had maybe 3 tackles, didnt get close to brady, and played soft coverage. Atleast Vilma is good in coverage. Vilma only got burned on that Watson TD because Thomas missed putting a hand on him off the line of scrimmage. Watch the replay again as Thomas attempts to bump Watson off his route and misses him completely.

Our best talent is fit for a 4-3. Vilma and Harris both have the speed to play great as a MLB and WLB in a 4-3. Barton or Hobson can play Strong side. Robertson and Ellis would be MUCH more effective in a 4-3 and atleast we could be better against the run. Somethign needs to change and it has to happen now because I can't watch this defense play anymore.

    Well said

The capper was that one play where Morris slipped and landed on his butt, got up, and still gained 7 yards! That doesn't even happen in high school football. This defense is broken
