01:38AM - Jets Interested In RB Bell, TE On The Block
September 3rd, 2007 by Gary Grund

According to Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger, the New York Jets are rumored to be interested in Denver runningback Mike Bell who was recently placed on the trade block by the Broncos. In the same report, Hutch also notes that the Jets could shopping tight end Sean Ryan throughout the league.

Currently, the Jets are carrying 5 tight ends on their roster. Chris Baker, Sean Ryan, Jason Pociask, Joe Kowalewski are all on the active roster. James Dearth is also listed as a tight end, but is only the long snapper.

What!! Totally surprised by this!! Star-Ledger reports are usually accurate aren't they? Mabey this is why Danny Ware wasn't on the team? And all the TEs. Seems to make sense in that respect, but surely we wouldn't trade for another back, especially one so talented, around the same level as Leon. Trade for a guard, not a Runningback!

Oh yeah, my thoughts. I've always liked Mike Bell, although I haven't seen him play very much. Then again, considering the line that he was running behind, he's probably not any better than Leon.

If Shanahan doesn't like Mike Bell, that means he doesn't work for the one-cut system in Denver. But he definitely seems like he would be a solid back-up.

Bell does work in the Denver system. He was a positive on that team last year. The fact they gave Travis Henry a big contract and the fact that Selvin Young and Andre Hall made the team, apparently has made Mike Bell expendable. Now, if you have a surplus of RBs the one you'd most likely trade is the #2 man.
I was surprised Bell was not drafted out of Arizona. He was a good back in college. When I saw that Denver had signed him as an undrafted free agent I knew he'd make the team last year.

I think he'd be a good backup and depth guy but it kinda makes me think Jones isn't going to be fully healthy for a long time if at all.

Ware thought he was going to get drafted at round 3-4 :eek:hmy: and he went undrafted!

The other news in the original posters article was about Ryan.
I will be VERY surprised if Ryan goes cheaply , if at all. Not only has he played well , blocking and receiving he a Mangini guy :pukes for phrase:

No, actually I think Hutchinson is off base more than most -- of course, he goes out on a limb more often and you have to respect that.

I like Hutchinson, I've corrected him many times due to mistakes in his articles and he always responds politely thanking me. So, he seems like a decent guy, but he seems to jump the gun too often and sometimes I wonder if his insider isn't someone who uses him for disinformation.

I don't get it.....how is he better than Ware? Mike Bell was a UFA last season. Also, Sean Ryan has done more than Pociask so why is he the one we want to trade? I wonder if he got all that action in preseason just to show he has some trade value....

Either way I can see us being interested in an RB but I don't get why it is Bell and not Ware.

I was thinking the same thing.
The only thing is I believe Pociask can line up as a FB/TE in some sets but then again we have seen our TE's shift into the FB position on some plays.

afa Bell goes, I believe it really is a depth thing. I Have grown to Love Leon and I was skeptical of the pick originally cause I thought he couldn't last but I think they want to keep Leon Fresh throughout the season which is Key to his success.

i dont see us getting rid of Ryan. he backs up Baker and did a great job this preseason. Maybe the rest are blocking TE for Jones??

Watch them play and you'll see Bell is better. Bell did not get drafted because he had a minor character issue. Ware did not get drafted because he's not a good enough RB.

I have to zoom in on your website to read your bio royal 1. That's kind of annoying, maybe you should increase the font size.

Pociask was out all last year and so I have no idea what he is actually capable of... I've never really seen him do anything.

I think we are all chasing our tails ,they have a plan . One thing is for certain they wont keep 5 TE's on the roster. I think any back can gain substanital yards in shanahan system no matter what his back ground is!

he'll be the third back and would be there just in case someone goes down. Nothing special or really that significant. He seriously dissapointed last year with denver
