There is no right or wrong way to bring a qb along. You can find your sucess and failiure story in both cases. Kiffins philosphy hasn't changed from day one,as he has always been proponet of following the carson Palmer blueprint. (sit out his rookie year and than become starter the following year)
What does J Elway playing his rookie year , have to do with the Jamarcus Russell comparisons. Was J Elway a 21/22 year old QB, when he came into the league.

Apparently, it wasn't a mistake (well, it probably was, but not a clerical one) LOL

    MOSES WASN'T CUT BY MISTAKE

Despite from Internet rumors and reports that the Raiders accidentally released defensive end Quentin Moses, the team's third-round pick in the 2007 draft, an industry source tells us that the cutting of the rookie was not the result of a mistake.

Moses received a $610,000 signing bonus when he signed with the Raiders, and will keep that money as he heads to the Cardinals, who claimed him on waivers. For the Cardinals, it made their decision to dump third-rounder Buster Davis (who also received a $610,000 signing bonus) a wash.

You just don't really ever get it, do you?

My point was you have been comparing Russell to Elway. Fine. I can see a reason for the comparison based on their talent.
In this thread, however, I was specifically making mention of the fact that Russell may not throw any passes as a rookie. It'd be a big difference from what Elway did as a rookie.

    Learn the game...blah blah blah

The last thing any organization wants is to draft a qb in the first round and not have him in the building every day teaching him how to play in the NFL. He doesn't have to start from day one but you certainly want him as prepared as possible.

What do you have at RB that's so good? Lamont Jordan sucks and your offensive line sucks. Hows Robert Gallery these days? Hows Quentin Moses? The Raiders organization is a joke.

I know what you were trying to say. Still J Elway(senior) was a little older than Jamarcus Russell(junior) when he came into the NFl. So even though Elway played as a rookie, in reality he started the same age if Jamarcus Russell starts next season. I don'[t want Russell to be like Elway anymore. I want more superbowls than Elway won.

I think it would be good if Russell were to get some playing time this year even if it was only garbage time in a December game (see Philip Rivers in 2004). A little something is better than nothing.

Russell should have been signed already.

An opposing team's scout had this to say about the holdout in the Sports Illustrated NFL Preview issue-

I think the key phrase there is, "...till 2008 at the earliest."

At some point jamarcus Russell going to get signed and its not going to be much longer. He has sixteen weeks and all offseason to get ready for 2008.

Raiders oline right now, is in better shape than the Jets. 3/5 of the starting oline weren't even raiders last year. (so what are you basing your opinion on)
Robert gallery is raiders starting LG and has looked pretty darn good too. (LG is very imoportant position in a stretch and Cut blocking system)

How Quentin Moses? Well he was the fifth DE on their depth chart. That says something about the talent that they have assembled on defense.

Raiders have more talent on offense, than the JETS. Its not even close whose defense is better.

It really dosen't matter what you, or any other team scouts think Raiders should do with jamarcus Russell. Kiffin going to make that call. Like I stated before every situation is not the same. Carson plamer didn't start one game his rookie year, and it didn't hurt his development.

This is very funny. So 3/5 of the offensive line has been replaced and your line is still better then ours? Just so we are clear I never compared the Jets lines to the Raiders lines. Your offensive line is shifting to a zone blocking scheme? correct?

So you have according to the raiders website:
    LT Barry Sims
    LG Robert Gallery
    C Jake Grove
    RG Cooper Carlisle
    RT Cornell Green

I don't know about other Jets fans but this line doesn't exactly have me scared. And typically when an offensive line is overhauled and starts playing a new system there is a transition period. Can they improve over last year? How could they not improve?

The rest of the Raiders offense doesn't really remind me of the Rams offense a few years back.

QB: Culpepper vs Pennington/Clemens, I'll take the Jets qb's any day of the week. I've always thought Culpepper was garbage and I'll continue to think that.

RB: Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are much better then Lamont Jordan/Bush/Fargas.

FB: Justin Griffin is a better all around player then our fullback but his focus is not on run blocking. I'd rather have Barnes/Tutt.

    WR: Coles/Cotchery. enough said.

TE: Until Zach Miller actually proves himself during the season the Jets tight ends are still better.

So I don't see where the Raiders have more talent but i'd love to hear it.

As far as defense, the Raiders have a very good defense. I never knocked their defense.

Now the reason their organization is a joke is coaching situation. They've had to fight tooth and nail just to find someone who wanted to coach with Al Davis breathing down their neck. They actually had Art Shell as the coach last year, thats a joke in itself. The rumors are that Kiffin actually wanted Moses, and Davis didn't. To cut a player in the third round he has to really be horrible. You've now taken a big salary cap hit with that entire bonus accelerating to next seasons salary cap.

All I know is the Raiders were horrible last year. Their owner seems to cause never ending problems when hiring a coach and dealing with front office issues. They took a qb 1st overall and still haven't signed him. You have to deal with the Chargers and Broncos who clearly have much more talent overall then the Raiders. I just don't see things improving much this year for the Raiders.

Raiders do have more talent on offense, than the jets, and it will be proven.
Your Oline right now is not better than raiders. Lets see you rather have a healthy Culpepper or Pennington? Raiders have not one, but two Tes, that are so much better than what you put out there at Te. yes thomas Jones is a big name rb, but goodluck trying to run behind that oline.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. One of those guys started 16 games as a rookie. The other sat out his entire rookie season.

Indeed, it doesn't matter what I, you, or a scout says about the Russell situation.
It's on Kiffin and his coaching staff. Once the Raiders sign Russell, if they fail with him it most likely is going to cost Kiffin his job.

RaiderJoe was saying that a qb playing as a rookie is a mistake. Predators response was that there was no right/wrong way since Palmer sat out a year and Manning played as a rookie. Both are top 5 qb's and both developed differently.

Well, now Moses is an Arizona Cardinal. I hope he has a great rookie year and bolsters that Arizona pass-rush.
