Bullshit. I guess for him it's really a 1 game suspension. Hopefully we don't need him against Tampa.
 Is this even a one game suspension, in practical terms? I guess it depends on whether yesterday's outing still counts as two innings of work, requiring two days of rest.
BTW, How many games did Pedro ever get for Breaking Jeter's wrist?Or this year w/ A-rod getting plunked? I'm sorry to say but this is clearly a case of "Yankee Hatred".... I may be going a little overboard but that's what it seems like.
Matsuzaka hit A-Rod two at-bats in a row. When Sox pitchers do it, they're just "throwing inside," and no penalties are meted out. When a Yankee pitchers comes up and in - even if it's questionable whether it's on purpose - he's suspended.
I think it's more a case of Red Sox/Yanks hype then just Yankee hate. The umpire overreacted and tossed Joba "because of the history" and then the league had to back him up with a short suspension otherwise the ump that tossed him would look even worse.
I could see that but if that's the case then that means the calls of the umpires will dictate the suspensions more than the commish or the reviews? 2 wrongs don't make it right but I can see the league "Backing up the ump"...
If Angel Hernandez was the ump then that goes a long way to explaining this. The guy is bar none the worst umpire in baseball. I think the commish and the reviews still have their input, I think we would've seen a longer suspension if they actually thought Joba was throwing at his head. It just seems like every time someone is tossed for throwing at someone now they're suspended so to have a guy tossed and then the league not suspend him would look a little odd. I agree it's a pretty terrible practice but it's really the only thing that makes sense given the particulars of this situation.
Thats why this whole thing makes sense to me. It doesnt make sense if your looking at it with a logical point of view, however as soon as Angel Hernandez is mentioned you can't take this whole thing seriously.
So true. I was discussing this with my friend, a Yankee fan, and he immediantly felt better when I explained Hernandez's reputation. But I don't see how anyone can endorse the suspension whatsoever.
the thing is, this suspension doesnt affect him at all. Since he pitched into a 2nd inning, he was going to get 2 days of rest.
With all the talk about relaxing the Joba rules to account for pitch count rather than innings, this would've been the perfect scenario to break it. I think Joe even talked about it on his weekly WFAN interview. He only threw 9 pitches in the 8th and finished with 18.
