Jaguars set to let go of QB Leftwich

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the decision to release starting quarterback Byron Leftwich, making David Garrard the starting quarterback.

After a preseason that saw Leftwich struggle in his last two starts, the Jaguars opted to release him and go with Garrard, who had a good preseason.

The team didn't file the work with the league office Friday, so it will have to happen Saturday. But a team source confirmed that if Leftwich isn't traded, he will be let go.

    They're both below-average QB's.

Wow. I can't believe they didn't at least try and trade him.

I like Leftwich, but Garrard seems to be the right guy for the job in Jacksonville.

I'm sure he will find a new team. The Falcons seem like a good team for him.

I could see the Chiefs, the Dolphins, and the Falcons going after him.

I think they've pimped Harrington too much to bail on him. Besides, I think he's a better option anyway, for that team.

Some starter will get injured in September and he'll probably sign with that team.

    I hope that's a joke. Leftwich sucks.

This is a desperate move. The Jags are gonna derail this year.

Nah I've never made a joke in my life. The only other trade I would make before this one is Vilma for any guard about to be released.

Leftwich sucks but Garrard is just as bad. Switching up the QBs in an attempt to shake things up and wake up the rest of the team is desperate.

I think this has a lot to do with it. Seeing as both Garrard and Leftwich are equally skilled (or unskilled if you like) staying with the guys who can play more often makes sense.

Jags CUT Byron Leftwich...(semi jets related)

Im shocked...i know they were thinking of going in a different direction, but this is a pretty classless move by the jags! why not let him go, or try to trade him by june 1st???? that way a guy who has been good to the organization could get a chance elsewhere and catch on to the new teams offense....talk about treating a player like trash...

just curious where you think he may end up. i wouldnt be shocked if miami tried to sign him. that would give them a very, VERY viable choice at QB for the years to come (adding stability to the team) while backing green up this season.

i wouldnt like to that at all...

do you thik he could end up in miami or buff? maybe atlanta?

Atlanta would be my first guess.

I'm surprised they did not TRADE him earlier, they had to be able to get SOMETHING for him a few weeks/months ago...now they nada/
