Its over for now. let Smith concentrate on receiver and Special Teams. He's not a # 3 at this time. As I am writing this, its the start of the 3rd qtr. We might not have a # 3 at all.
I agree. Smith has happy feet, can move around but has ZERO pocket presence. I would be very worried if we carried him as our #3QB, because, as we've all seen, the #3 can very well be pressed into action. Experiment OVER- please!
Brad Smith sucks as a QB & honestly....I don't see him as anything but a special teamer. He won't make it as a NFL WR. He better learn how to play in the defensive secondary.
I have to agree. I see Stuckey beating out Smith for a higher spot on this roster very soon. Assuming we don't trade JMAC the depth is Coles Cotchery JMAC Stuckey Smith Wright JMAC and Stuckey can easily swap spots. Wright is certainly stealing some of the spotlight from Smith on ST.
If the #3 has to play more than half of one game, we're probably done for anyway. I'll take that chance to have another player on the active squad who might make a ST play that changes a game in our favor.
i'd agree tui was brought in to compete with kellen for the #2 spot he lost he played well though...and smith has played bad...making it a tougher decision for the #3 job where smith has played well in the past is coming in for 1 play at a time not an entire drive neither as the #3 playing fulltime would save the team and lead us to the superbowl so i think they opt for another player and cut tui
Tui will stay on the team. Smith showed today that he CANNOT play QB in the NFL. He sucked it up against 3rd stringers on defense. He had one good pass, the rest were very inaccurate. Tui looked very sharp however.
B. Smith looked horrible all preseason. Even his 29 yd completion today looked like a bad throw. He's mr. everything, but sucks at QB in the NFL. So I agree, Tui is our #3.
I think Smith needs to specialise in SOMETHING. I was really excited about him before the preseason, but now i don't think he will be able to play QB, plus, he hasn't excelled at WR. Mabey he'll be a full time STer.
I have to agree with you here. Tui's a better QB than Smith, but would anyone have any faith in Tui if he had to play?
Mangini likes versatility. Smith isn't the best at anything, but he's good enough at everything to have significant value to the team.
He holds the ball way too long, he has no timing with receivers, and he cannot read a defense. His huddle leadership is also lacking. He is a WR at this point with trick plays thrown in like Randle El or Hines Ward. No more pure QB for B. Smith.
Let's end the Smith at QB experiment. If the past has taught us anything it's that you need 3 descent QB's on your team, which we will have if we keep Tui. Besides, last time I checked, Vinny was playing for the Pats so we can't go and pull him of the couch this year.
So did Ray Lucas. Brad Smith hasn't had any real work at the pro level..... You could make him into a functional number three if he got the reps. His only real throwing problem is that he seems to throw high and off too much which comes from not being forced to set and throw. It's an easily correctable problem.
No. And thats the point. after functining ONLY as a QB for the past few years, he isn't really any good. Smith has been a productive QB at the College level, and much like Ray Lucas (see above) he could be a servicable 3 if you gave him the work.
Stuckey is a better Slot guy than Jmac, so you ar e probably correct. Jmac is a Down the field guy. (Plus if you use him as a four you increase the odds of getting a better match up down the field.)
Personally - I hope we keep Tui , If Chad goes down long term I'd have more confidence in Tui keeping us competitive than Clemens. I know that will never happen because if Chad goes down they will let the ship sink with Kellen with the Dream he is the QB of the future - Which ultimately he will not be.
Well, get used to it now, because Clemens IS the QB of the future..(Until Mike Vick gets out of Prison anyway...) He ws drafted precisely because he has the SAME intangibles as Chad, but with a little better throwing arm. Ironically enough the arm stregnth was also the knock on him coming out of college....
