OK, I just heard Adam Schein say that Brick was awful on Saturday. Now, I watched most of the game and I looked at Brick and bender a bit but I am so watched the ball, so have any of you gone through and looked at the line? Did Brick have that bad a game, and if so, on what plays? What did he not do? I watched him do a decent job on some running plays, sealing off the left side, but I didnt see enough to agree or disagree with Schein.
From what I saw, he did not look good. Brick is a work in progress. He is a talented LT who has the tools to protect the blind side, but needs to refine his game.

not my eyes, Brick was the 4th pick in the draft with a years experience & was dreadful. Way more concerning IMO than the 6th round pick playing terribly in his first start at a new position..
What did you see? Was it mostly pass blocking or run blocking? I don't think that it is expecting too much from him to expect an 8 out of 10 LT by mid-season this year...and if he does not become the player we want out of him, where did we go wrong?
In my eyes, both were below average in this game. Brick was beat on passing downs and not great in run blocking as well.
Both were major issues Saturday night. We knew though coming out that he wasn't going to be a great run blocker. It might be too early to say this but I said it then so it isn't hindsight. We went wrong when we drafted an LT at the 4th spot that can't run block and doesn't have a mean streak. Those concerns are showing on the surface now plus you can add in the troubles with the pass blocking as well. Luckily it is only preseason but I am more concerned with Brick than I am anyone else at this point.
Maybe he just had a hangover. I'm never 100% after a night of boozing. Yeah, lets just hope he has a drinking problem.
One of the two sacks on Pennington was Brick getting beaten cleanly to the outside. The whole line looked bad. When Mangini took the first team out, he left the starting O line in to get some more repetition after the half. Then they had a drive where they ran every down and got in for a TD, that was Clemens' first drive, all runs vs the Giants' 2nd team.
I havent watched the game so I'm not sure how Brick looked...however I do have acouple follow up questions... 1. Ive seen many maintain that brick was trying to cover for Bender's blunders which affected his performance. Was this the case or just an excuse? It's hard for a left tackle to succeed when covering up for a rookie..especially when the left tackle is inexperienced himself. 2. Were the Giants blitzing/Stunting alot? Most OL's struggle w/ this in the preseason as they dont show their blocking scheme packages designed to stop these things. The result can be OL's looking awful when it may not totally be the case. 3. How did Brick look compared to last week and was the one sack he gave up his only blunder? Last week many were insisting Brick looked awful. I zero'd in on Brick during that game and although he was inconsistent..for the most part he looked very good, IMO.
At what point do we start admitting that the #4 pick overall routinely gets blown off the line of scrimmage on running plays, and despite his much hyped speed, cannot protect the edge against the league's better speed rushers ?
Thanks for the feedback. If anything, technically speaking he has showwn alot of improvement from last year. He's handling his side of the line w/o any help from TE's or RB's(which wasnt the case last season) there are bound to be growing pains...and hopefully he'll work through them. Just keep in mind that it could be alot worse: We could have Robert Gallery who uneventfully has been moved to LG or we could be the colts w/ Tony Ugoh....who is gonna get Manning killed.
I made a point to watch the left side of the line, and it wasn't pretty. IMO, he looked freaking terrible.
They did have a RB on his side when he gave up a sack. But your point about the TE is interesting. On the last day of open practice they kept a TE in on his side and it helped the running game. They may need to do that some more, even if it means cutting an option from the offense, because the memory of two QBs going down early in the season has left a scar on my brain.
