...as a stop gap. The following are my reasons in no particular order:

    1. Jones has always been a better player when playing on the left side of the line than the right.

    2. Jones has played LG in the past in spot duty and been serviceble.

    3. Jones is a veteran with a lot more NFL playing experience than Clarke and Bender; I would think he is less likely to get rattled.

    4. Clarke or Bender may be able to replace Kendall at some point but they are clearly not ready now.

    5. It can't be any worse than what we saw yesterday.

Why not give it a shot? It can't be worse than what we have now and it's better than bringing in someone who doesn't know the playbook. Although we do still need to bring someone in but it could be a stop gap as you said.

At this point I'm ready for Ben Graham to fill in or anyone else. Glad we waited until August 25th to learn we needed OL help.

I'm pretty sure we already tried this and he stunk it up.

wrong, he actually looked really good filling in at LG last year. Granted it is a small sample size bu he definetly didn't stink it up and should get the chance to win the job.

Why not? He wasn't bad last time if I remember correctly.

I think it makes sense to find out what Clarke and Bender can do just in case they are better than Adrian Jones and then play the best man. Plus, if you start AJ you still need to know who is going to be his replacement in case he gets hurt. If I can figure this out, maybe so will Mangini? Let's wait to see who starts against NE. Tannenbaum has also said that the Jets will be looking to pick up anybody that is released that might help the team. Remember, we are going to have to release one or two good WRs so maybe some other teams will have to release one or more capable O Linemen.

This is stating the obvious but we have to play the best option there as you can't have Chad's blindside unprotected. D'Brick can handle his part but I am just watching the Jets/Giants game and Justin Tuck just blew by Bender and that wasn't pretty.

good point, i remember him being good enough. that could change if he won full time duty. but like the others said at this point we need to explore all options.

  12. When kendall went down in the first NE game, and Jones came in, i thought he had earned a starting spot w/ his performance.

He has very good athleticism for pass protection at guard as well as for pulling. He also looked good at guard in TC on the days that both Moore and Kendall were out.

I'm not sure why this hasnt been tried/highlighted..but perhaps the CS knows something we dont

Hopefully the coaching staff looks past that DUI or whatever it was last year and gives him a try, we're desperate at this point.

I'm really surprised he hasn't gotten more time on the field in the last year. He actually played much better at RT in 2005 before Fabini went down and he shifted to LT where he stunk. Trying him at LG couldn't hurt, but the Jets obviously don't want him there. It's got to be a coaching preference based on the talent that he is competing with.

I don't think we have just the LG position to worry about. I didn't like the way Brick looked on Saturday. Hope he get his head out of his ass and starts earning his money.

D'Brick is not a huge physical specimen like so many other LT's have been. He's tall but not all that heavy for 6'6". He'll be fine as soon as the Jets get a decent LG who is not undersized next to him.

Ideally the Jets find a decent 6'2" 315lber to slot in there and then that side of the line will no longer be vulnerable to overloading and bulling in like they were last season and have been so far in preseason this year.

This might not be a terrible idea at all. Ive been seeing hearsay reports that SF RG Justin Smiley is (could be, might be, possible maybe etcetc) on the bubble for the starting job (aol and MSN sports specifically). A trade for him with McCareins on the block may work out well cause SF isnt deep with WR's.

Darned good idea IMO. Jones can play the position, and is clearly better than Clarke I think. He can hold it down until Bender learns how to pass block.

What about Vilma for Faneca? Sike! I think we should believe in the players we have. I just don't think we've seen the best of Bender. No doubt if I see a move for Faneca I'd be wylin out, but it would be total admission to the CS having serious doubts about Bender.
