Couldn't see the J-E-T-S / Giants out here. But in reading about it, Chad played very poorly. Couldn't move the team at all after the first play. A long play to Washington.
Clemens, even though it was against a second team, showed he is sharp and accurate.
Some media sites are using this week and last week performances to start that dreaded "contraversy" word.
Did Chad really look that bad?
If so, was it accuracy, slow or confusion.
or just don't believe the media.

He was bad, Clemens was good, but there isn't a controversy just yet

Chad didn't look too good, but he never had much of a chance to get going. Clemens looked good but he was working with the first team O-line against the Giants back-ups. He still threw a couple of pretty passes and seemed like a comfortable, confident leader of the offense. He threw one pic but the safety made a great on handed grab on the play. Jackson made no real attempt to break it up either.

If we put clemens in the first half, the outcome would have been the same, if not worse. Kendall just had to open his fat mouth....

That first play was one of very few positives, but it was a great throw, and its good to see Pennington making throws like that. The big thing to remember is that when the actual season gets going, you add Thomas Jones to the mix, and I think what he adds to the running game is going to make Pennington much more effective.

I don't see it as an indictment of Pennington at all, but Clemens is playing really well. Granted its always against second stringers, but its still comforting to see that the guy has some ability to lead the team and make good throws. At this point, Im prepared to bet that hes a starting quarterback in this league relatively soon, possibly here, more likely somewhere else, but definetely somewhere.

Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm talking to a bunch of pre-teens when I'm on this board and it makes me think that maybe I should be doing something else.

Nobody can blame Chad himself for last night's performance. The O-line was horrible. And it is possible that the #4 Overall pick played just as bad as this year's 6th round pick.

It's Chad's job to lose and he cannot lose his job in the preseason, there's really nothing more to it. Were this last season it might be a different story since the starting spot was up for grabs, but there is no story here. If Chad plays well during the season, he will continue to start. If he plays poorly he will be benched and Clemens will take over. No real controversy involved.

Always excuses for Chad. It is never his fault.

Here's the way I see it: the coaching staff calls the game completely differently when Clemens is in. Outs and shots downfield are all part of the equation with Kellen. The coaching staff already knows he is more capable than Chad. All Chad can do is dink and dunk.

There is already controversy brewing amonst the coaching staff, they even see the differences in the QBs. Kellen will be our starter before year's end it is just a matter of when. Just like we knew in 2002 that Vinny's time had come to an end.

That's a Herm philosophy and it has gotten us into trouble before. If Chad cannot prove he is better than Clemens in the preseason for THIS YEAR, wht in the <bleep> should he start for us. Past accomplishments mean nothing for an NFL team trying to win a championship NOW.

Call it what you want but Mangini named Chad the starter this offseason and I don't see him backing from that off of preseason performance. Again, if he said it was open competition like last year Clemens would probably be the starter right now. Chad will have to lose it during the season.

You think everything last night was Chad's fault? Then you are crazy. They are not excuses, they are facts. 1. O-line played horrible. 2. The playbook was pretty small to not give anything to the Giants 3. Field position. Those are not excuses, they are facts.

Chad has no chance to be anything more than a marginal QB unless his offensive line is playing well. His season last year was the worst non-injury season of his career and this was masked by the fact that the teams the Jets played in the second half generally had a poor pass rush and/or a poor rush defense.

Think Buffalo and Aaron Schobel's sacks to get a clue about what is going to happen this season as the offensive line continues to deteriorate.

No, it was confusing. Who the hell responds to one part of a quote in the quote, then the next part of the quote as a regular response?

Clemens was good last night but you can't ignore he was playing against the
2nd string Giants defense. Was Chad that bad last night? Hard to tell when he was constantly harassed by the Giant's front four. Last night's game showed us at least that Clemens can come in and play the position. Next year Chad may be on the bench watching Clemens.
