I'm not saying it was a mistake, I'm saying we are clearly worse off in this season because of it. Also, I think people are making a mistake thinking Bender and Clarke will step right in and play at a high level. Neither has much experience and hasn't proven anything in the regular season for us. At the end of the year everyone could be right about them but right now, the jury is very much still out.

if we would have given him a new deal, everybody in the future and some now would have wanted a new deal, besides kendall's knees are close to falling apart, if we gave him a new deal, who knows maybe next year he would have been sitting down with an injury.

mangini knows something we dont know about kendall's health, and people who complain like that, we all know it is very bad for a team on being cohesive.

I'd respectfully disagree, for the following points:

    1. Kendall is a goner in a year or two, Jets or no Jets. He's 36 after 2 seasons - his retirement party should be looming ahead.

My point is that, experience counts. All the experience Kendall collects as the starting LG (were he to stay, that is) this year goes to dust in 2 years at most. Think of it as an investment to Jake Bender or Adrian Clarke. They may not be able to perform at high level as we would have liked them to, but they will still learn a lot from it, if they have any talent whatsoever. If they do improve, and they do stick with the team, they will be here to stay for more than just a year or two like Kendall. This is a risk you cannot refuse, and a risk you must not refuse.

    2. Jets got a 4th rounder out of this whole ordeal. More picks = good. You can either use it as an ammunition to move up, or use it to draft that coveted prospect. Considering Kendall doesn't have that much left in his tank, I cannot say this is a bad deal at all.

    3. The downside is, as someone else already pointed out, they are more than likely to get Pennington killed. But then, you've got to face the facts of life - Pennington is also 31 this year, and he may be able to contribute up to 4 more years maximum anyway, barring no injury. (I'm guessing it'd be shorter - but that's just me.) What am I talking about? If you are in charge of running the Jets, you should be ready for life after Pennington anyway, as it's already imminent. I'm trying to tell you that while losing Pennington this year due to injury might hurt the chance of Playoff this year, it has to be a possibility this organization should be ready to live with. Meaning... it's not that bad after all. If Clemens does have what it takes to lead this team, all the better. If he can't, then you draft another QB. (On a sidenote, having Pennington on the sideline with clipboard doesn't seem like a bad idea either; he'd make one hell of a offensive coordinator himself.)

I think they're going to work out a trade with another team for a guard.

The front office was not wrong. Kendall signed a contract he was not willing to live up to. He then bitched about it all summer to anyone in the media that would listen.

I'm not worried about losing him. I still feel this team is at least a year or two away and getting Clark or Bender playing time now will benefit us down the road.

Gettign a 4th for Pete was a steal IMO. A 34 year old guard has very little time left in the NFL.

saying we are not good enough to run our team like the Pats :pats_suck: is silly. You don't become successful and then change your ways. You become successful by the way you run a team or bussiness.

:deadskins: we need one of these that says screw Kendall :)

Not quibbling with your post, which I think is okay for the most part. But I think I heard on the radio that we either get a 5th Round in the '08 draft or a 4th Round in the '09 draft, and it depends on how much playing time Kendall gets.

Does anyone have clear, official information on this yet? Is what I heard correct? TIA for any information.

Actually from most reports Kendall DID want to play for the Jets and it wasn't like he was asking for all that much more money. Plus he was instrumental in tutoring both Mangold and D'Brick. Heck according to the article I just read, he was also helping out Bender up until the trade.

The Jets hurt themselves by this trade in the short term unless they pick someone else up who fills in. And with this being Chad's blindside they really shouldn't have messed with it.

Keep in mind that they may end up renegotiating Moore's contact which is the exact same thing they wouldn't do for Kendall so I have to go with LI Jets Fan on this one that the FO made a mistake here.

I would also add that the FO not only demoted Kendall but made him play center which seemed rather petty as he has never done well or been happy with that position.

I'll be at the game tomm night when Bender starts. If that experiment blows up in our face then we always have Clarke. Everyone should just calm down. Kendall as many put it was on the wrong side of 30, was a lockerroom lawyer and wasnt going to play as hard as he could have if we kept him. This is going to be a great move in the long run.

Considering the way Kendall went about trying to get his money (whining to the media), if Tanny would have given him the raise it would have set a bad precedent for the rest of the team.

Brandon Moore has handled his situation with much more class and professionalism.

I agree that Kendall didn't handle the situation great either but if the FO is going to tell one player they won't renegotiate because that's their policy and then renegotiate someone else that is hypocritical no matter the circumstances.

Kendall's situation never would have gotten to the point of complaining had the FO been open to the negotiation. To me Kendall was underpaid so I don't have a problem with him asking for more money and while I understand the FO wants to stick to their "policies" sometimes you need to be flexible and not so stuck in your ways.

Not that I know the whole deal but the whole Reevis situation shouldn't have happened in my mind because it seemed a bit strange for the FO to insist on a 6 year deal when everyone else was doing 5. I can understand them "wanting" to do a 6 year deal, but if that is the only thing keeping Reevis from signing then I think it's more important to work something out and get him into camp then it is to hold steady.

Where is Adrain Jones in this mix? Wasn't he the guy who was a can't miss LT prospect with great speed, and feet and I think he is also well over 300 lbs. He played a little guard last year during the season and looked okay. There has been no talk of him at all in TC.

Not picking on you, but I don't get some people with the Revis and Kendall situation. When Bradway was the GM, accepting lousy trades, signing old players, and making mistakes, all anyone ever did was complain that he wasn't fighting for better deals. Now we have a guy drives a hard bargain and people wanted him to cave to Revis' and Kendall's demands.

Brandon Moore has more of a leg to stand on in his argument for more money. He's way underpaid for a starting guard. Kendall restructured last year because he was worried about being released.

Actually, you are correct; it still depends on how Kendall performs, and not quite set in stone yet - if he plays more than 80% of the snaps this season, Jets will get 4th rounder, I heard. My assumption was that Kendall will play more than that, and the base of the assumption was that he played around 90% of the snaps while he was with the Jets in the past three years - and because of this, I automatically assumed that the Skins would have to cough up 4th rounder and not 5th. My bad on that one. :)

    What's up, biggs?

Jones wasn't a can't miss prospect. He was a 4th round project. He was a converted TE and only played one season at LT in college. What people loved about him was his athleticism.

Can someone clarify whether Kendall was given more money than planned last year, so that the Jets could pay him less this year? I thought that was the whole crux of the Jets' unwillingness to renegotiate with him in '07: he was seeking to get more from them this year, after they paid up last year.

Because the Jets do renegotiate (Cotchery, B Thomas, among others) and they should when it makes sense.

I don't think the Jets would leave themselves nake on the O-line to get rid of a headache. I think they would have kept Kendall around despite all the sniping if they didn't have a very adequate replacement on the team. The front office is pretty calculating when it comes to issues like this (see Pennington last year).

Cotchery and Thomas both got renegotiated in the last two years of five year deals. That type of renegotiation, to recognize the fact that a player has outplayed his contract is common in the NFL. We'll see it happen with Kerry Rhodes this year.

Kendall signed a four year deal last year and wanted to rengotiate after one year. I've never heard of any team renegotiating a contract after one season.

    Rebuttal:

I don't think we are necessarily disagreeing. I agree that Kendall is getting old and I agree that starting bender or Clarke would give them valuable experience. What I?m saying is that in the short term they are not a better option than Kendall. I?m saying that while we may be better off in the future, the short term outlook of the New York Jets took a hit (talent wise only mind you, I agree that Kendall was a bitch and probably would have babied himself out of the lineup anyways).

I am happy that the Jets got a draft pick where it looked like they would have come up empty handed. I am not ecstatic about a 4th round pick 2 years from now or a 5th round pick next year but it is better than nothing.

I am not, however, ready to mortgage our team?s season because our Quarterback may need to be replaced in 4 years. Maybe it is just me but that is an awful long time horizon, especially when we already have the heir apparent in Clemens.

Bradway and Herm both said he was ready to start at RT 2 years ago he did and they moved him to LT two during the season, granted he wasn't very good but that was on a very bad line and he was pretty much thrown into the fire. Last year the guy played a little guard and looked decent, I just don't know why he has fallen so far off the radar. Out of all of our development picks he seems like the most gifted athlete and a guy who should be able to step in somewhere especially on this line.

I thought he might challenge for one of the starting guard or RT spots this year. I'm just a bit surprised the guy hasn't moved up.
