Classy. Off topic, a few weeks back at the start of TC I was on vacation with my family in Turkey ( Hottest Goddamn place on Earth and every day linked up to read you and M Moss and 227's and the other guys reports of camp- made an adult beverage go down real well!)

Listen, you Penny-pinching (pun intended), fiery-tempered, whiskey-drinking, tavern-brawling, William Wallace-loving, Mel Gibson-adoring Scotsman (and I can call you this because I'm half Scottish myself and of the same temperament... my mother having been born in Johnston near Paisley)!

Don't be ragging on Jetcane just because he poses the inevitable question everyone will be asking about Pennington! You're shooting the messenger!

All of us bleed green here and we all want this team to succeed. Yeah, Penny took us to 10-6 and the playoffs last year, and that's great, it really is. And I think Jetcane has been extremely fair with Penny (as I've tried to be), on both sides of the coin. I've reported from camp whenever I felt really good about his performance and stuck by him through thick and thin (and still do, by the way, as I'm sure Jetcane does).

But we're talking possibilities here... the possibility that Clemens is closing the gap between himself and Penny. That's a good thing. But if that happens and things aren't going particularly well for the team, Mangini OWES it to the rest of the team to at least give him a shot. All Jetcane was saying here is the gap is getting closer. He's not anti-Chad, he's anti-losing!

What kind of list is that? I want my money back. Why is Matt Robinson not on that list? Er, I mean, why is Glenn Foley not on that list? Er, Browning Nagle? Kyle Mackey? Wait...what year is it?

Almost all QB's that eventually become a starter with the team that originally drafted them do so within the confines of the first two seasons they are with the team. Every once in awhile the decision comes early in the 3rd season as with Chad in 2002.

If Kellen Clemens is ever going to be the Jets starting QB it will likely be sometime this season or at the beginning of the next. That's just the way it works in the NFL.

Note that this is true regardless of where a player is drafted. The QB's start early or they never start at all for that team.

Prior to the current free agency system with cap there was some more leeway as teams could warehouse several good QB's at a time. Even then the odds were that if a player started at QB for the first time after his second season he probably came from somewhere else, like Steve Young and Trent Green.

Wow! 227 you are a Scotsman! I here ya, but I just couldn't bear the board to go (Chad) will he, won't he? Had a bellyfull last preseason and I think he answered everyone loud and clear. Example: we got our ass kicked by Bills week 13, I think doubts start flying around and then the next week he orchastrates a full range of passes and blows away the Vikes. Nobody works harder on his game than Chad and with the injuries he's had lesser players would have folded. The guy is class and I'm proud he's a Jet.

I'm over for the Eagles game in October and hope we can hook up for a few large ones.

That would be a fun hookup, Scottie. My wife and I might be taking our son-in-law and grandson to the game. My son-in-law's an Eagles fan, of all things, but I've got my grandson thinking straight... he's a Jets fan through and through.

So, is this any more accurate today than it was last week, or not?

    First Epilogue

After throwing a TD pass to Leon Washingtonon the first play from scrimmage against the Gnats, Pennington failed to move the team to any first downs the rest of the half.

Clemens once again was able to move the offense, due to the herculean effort of his teammates, who were able to get the best of the gnats' second team defense, causing speculation that Joe villani could replace nick mangold at center, since the OL fared much better while he was snapping the ball.

Maybe the best post I've seen on Chad in awhile. You know where all that as you call it "chinese fire drill" started? Think Oakland in the playoffs in 2003. Chad had just destroyed the Colts and we think we have a shot against the big bad Raiders.... until they blitzed the hell out of Chad and forced him to panic. The guy has never been the same since that game.

As far as who should be the QB it's still Chad's job to lose and a few bad series in the pre-season don't mean squat. The guy has gotten us to the playoffs 3 times in his tenure and has even won games in the playoffs, something we're not acustomed too. If he is totaly ineffective against the Pats and Ravens maybe you start to think about Kellen. That being said I don't think Mangini and Co. wait nearly as long to pull the plug on Chad as Herm did with Vinny.
