Ding ding ding, we have a winnah. Those picks were mental errors, not due to arm strength or lack thereof. It showed his mental rustiness, but if he continues to make dumb mistakes like that, he isnt helping his case of being such a smart QB who compensates for lack of arm strength with football smarts. When there was a QB competition in camp last year, I remember saying that the CS seemed to be strongly inclined to do everything they could to win as many games NOW as they could, and not sacrifice their present chances for some speculative future. I dont think that mentality has changed heading into this season.
I was at the game. His arm is Horrible. Even the passes he completed were not thrown that good. This guy has the arm of the avg High School Qb!
Post like this are the reason i stick to the B.S forum, Chad had a bad game .. a very very bad game we all know this, This is the reason we have a pre season, chad has time to get $hit back on track. If chad looks this bad in the next two pre season games then we have a problem.
How do you get "game" experience? By playing that's how! The NFL is all about winning games. Chad has won his share but he had a very mediocre 2006 season. His shoulder has been weakened by 2 surgeries. ALL Chad has going for him is his football "smarts".If he can't out think a defense he's finished because he doesn't have the arm strength to out play a defense. Mangini wasn't brought here to win 9 or 10 games a year. He was brought here to win a SB or SB's  The organization must have thought highly of Clemens to wait and draft him in the 2nd rd otherwise they had Leinhart or Cutler avaiable to them. What's the harm in starting Clemens this week and playing him 2 series. The Jets need to play Clemens against 1st stringers to see if they have something special or look to the 2008 draft for our future QB.
I agree Clemens needs some pre season game experience, But hes not the starting QB this season no way. Chad had a bad pre season game, hes got time to get things back on track. He had a great injury free season last year, one bad pre season game and every one wants blood. If chad had a great pre season game i bet the title of the is tread would have been "Chad Pennington super bowl caliber QB"
The people throwing Pennington under the bus after two pre-season games is absolutely rediculous. Kellen Clemens has one solid game pre-season game and all of a sudden he should be the quarterback of this season? Pennington is resiliant and a good decision maker. His ints were at an increase last season because of a new offensive system and a ton of passing attempts because we had absolutely no running game. Let him run the offense this season and if he has a shit season then we can talk about controversy at the QB position, let Clemens get his reps toward the end, then head in to next season with a QB battle.
The problem is the Jets can not afford to let him run the offense for the whole season. If he is Mr Mediocre like he was last year the most we will get out of his is another one and done playoff appearance. We will be sitting here next year saying the same thing and Clemens looses another year where he could have gotten much needed experience. The Broncos sat their Qb when they had a legitimate shot at the Playoffs because their coach knew that they were not going to win with what they had and they took a step back so Cutler would be ready to play this year. If we let a mediocre Chad play we will not even know if we need to Draft a Qb next year and we will put the team in a hole for years to come. I hate to loose as much as the next Jet fan but Pennington is not the answer. I would rather bench him a year to early as opposed to a year to late.
Chad should start because the Jets were a playoff team last season and surly expect to contend this season and because of the success of QB's that got to sit for 2plus seasons. I believe Breez, Romo, Palmer, Brady, Bulger, Hasselbeck, Delhomme all sat for two years learning the game......... if Clemens is the real deal, one more year of learning will only help him.
Chad ran an offense that was very difficult to run considering all the adjustments and he led a team that was expected to be one of the worst in the league to a playoff team. Like it or not he WAS the offense. Now he has thomas jones who will hopefully be providing a solid running game. Something that will only help pennington. He had a mediocre year stats wise but overall played very solid. Now he should have a running game and will play better because of a running threat. Also, wins and loses are not solely put on chad. The O-Line has to protect him and the defense has to stop the run and stop the opposing team. Chad did a very good job last year and we should not even think of removing him at qb after a bad preseason. Something he seems to always have and something that has notoriously been a terrible indication of how well a team will do in the regular season. There is no reason chad should lose his job before the season because he has earned the trust of the coaches and teammates and has proven he can win games. When chad is in the game, the jets win, period.
I complete agree with this, people seem to forget that last year we were a play-off team and that was with little running game and a O-Line that consisted of 2 rookies. This year with a more experienced line, and if we get Kendall on there to start like i expect then a even more experienced line then Chad will have better protection. He is a clever guy, and he can read defenses given the time. Jones will make the team 2 dimentional something that will result in a better season all around. I say we see how we start, we get off to a bad start then bring Clemens in and see how he does. But im not prepared to write Chad odd just yet.
At what point do we sit Chad? If we are 4-4 at Mid season do you let Chad continue to play or do you go in another direction?
From a realistic standpoint the first two games are probable losses to Ne and Baltimore. Please don't give me the anything can happen sermon because we all know that. That means we have to win 4 out of the next six games to be 500 at the midway point. We play Buffalo twice, Miami, The Giants, The Eagles and the Bengals. 4-4 and a possible wildcard berth is very possible at the midway point of the season. In the event that we don't go 6-2 or 5-3 like most people will respond to this post and say what do we do if we are 4-4 with a wild card shot. Do we start Clemens and play for the future or keep Chad in until we are out of it. The longer Chad plays the further we are from a Superbowl. Basically we will be having this same argument next year this time.
Ding... Ding... the grand prize. The record shouldn't even enter into the decision-making process. It's Chad's performance that should be the issue. I hope we don't have to go there because I just don't think Clemens is ready yet. Then again, there were probably those in New England circles who thought Brady wasn't ready either, when Drew Bledsoe went down.
It's not a matter of it being pre-season or the picks going back for TD's. It's the point, that is understated on this site, that the guy throws 2 yard passes almost every throw. It's embarrassing.
Heheheheheh... I am so going to enjoy this season watching the forum for people to completely implode as the season continues with Pennington at QB, because unless the guy gets hurt or turns into a smelly green turd he's going to be taking snaps aaaaaaaaaaalllllllll year loooooooooooooonnnggg.... Get used to it haters.
Tell Chad to throw a freakin pass downfield. All the Jets do is try to fool ya. They fake one way, throw the other. If the other team goes for it, Pennington's two yard screen goes for a gain. If not, you see what happenned Friday night. You don't beat good teams with a QB like that. Throw the freakin ball 15 yards on the line. Not that nonsense.
Yeah well tell your guy to throw a pass like an NFL QB. Not like some Junior High kid who can't even grip the ball.
The sad thing is your right. The funny thing will be seeing what excuses Chad lovers come with for him this year.
