He was a nice No. 3 WR on a team with a QB who used to hold the ball forever and move around and than launch the ball downfield. McCariens was very often covered by a safety or a LB and wasn't asked to be a true No. 1 or No. 2 guy. Since coming over to the Jets he has not proven that he is that guy even though he is being paid as if he was. He isn't a great route runner, he gives up on way to many balls and has shown to have aligator arms on many occassions. The guy has been in the league for 6 years, he is what he is.
Great analysis. And Cotchery coming into his own, and the Play of Stuckey, Wright and Jackson could make him a salary casualty.
It would be nice if I were an astronaut, and if leprochauns showed up at my doorstep with a pot full o' gold- sadly, none of these things will happen.
The Jets certainly are not showcasing him. The Jets aren't forcing him to catch everything thrown his way or to make great catches in practice. If anything, it's the other way around -- he is the one that's showcasing himself. And neither you nor I can change the fact that he has become a favorite of Mangini's, from the end of last season to now. He's a Mangini type player. He goes 100% and he is a team player, asking to be placed on Special Teams when he's not asked to do so. I would very surprised if he is anywhere this season other than the Jets. There is no need to get rid of his sallary. We are not hurting in that department. And it would be unwise to shove Stucky or any of the second tier guys that we have, like Wright, in the number 3 slot. Anyway, I know I've been talking about this way too much, but I hope he stays. My opinion.
