Practice in full pads went just a bit longer than 2 1/2 hours. Where to start... the infirmary, I suppose. No less than 7 players were on the bikes today. The players I could identify: Miller, Jones, E Smith, D Coleman, Kowalewski and Tutt. Couldn't make out who the seventh player was. At one point I saw Miller and Kowalewski taking a slow jog. Miller seemed to have a very slight limp.

Rhodes had a solid day, two INT's at least, and one was a juggling, falling to the ground type...tough play, but he held on. Barrett got victimised a couple times, once early in practice, where F Jackson found a seam and got behind Barrett for a long TD thrown by Clemens. Later Stuckey out jumped Barrett for a ball making a nice catch, and I beleive it was Coles who burnt him deep in the late 11 on 11's. He did have one moment of revenge, stepping in fron of a WR on an out pattern which would have gone for a TD off of Clemens.

Poteat seemed to have a very good day, breaking up all sorts of pass plays. R Washington also made some nice plays today, as it seems he is using the most of the snaps he gets with Smith riding the bike.

Stuckey's hands are stooopid good. However, I did see him drop one today that was catchable, althouhg it wasn't an easy catch. He also burnt Barrett over the middle with a move that sent Barrett's socks going one way, and his shoes in another. That would have been good for a TD as well.

Clemens is definitely entrenched as the #2, but he's still making too many mistakes. On one play in the 11 on 11's, he threw an out, while the WR turned over the middle. Mangini was pointing at him, indicating it was his fault. That early TD pass to Jackson was a pretty pass. He shows flashes, but needs to be more consistant with his reads. He and I think it was Ware took a lap for a botched handoff, and Tui followed that on the next play with another fumbled handoff. They brought Penny in from the other end of the field after that... I was waiting for the entire O to get a lap.

News Flash: Pennington under throws a wide open Cotchery down the left sideline that should have been a TD. Cotchery reacted, went over the DB 's (not sure which two) and came down with the ball for a 40 yard or so gain. Coles and Cotch, and the rest of this WR corp I feel very good about. They have to find a way to keep both Stuckey and Frisman Jackson.

Looks like the Wade Smith at center experiment is over. Kendall was at center with the 2's, and they are giving Vilani tons of snaps, I'm guessing in the hopes he can be our backup center at some point. Kendall got no time with the 1's as far as I could tell. Adrian Jones was getting snaps with the second team at RT today. OL Coach Wise spends a lot of time with Bender. They see something they really like in this rookie it would seem. Wise also had a lot of one on one ciaching with #64.... I am guessing that is the new O lineman they just signed, Stanley Daniels, who later unceremoniously took a lap. 64 was Wicker's old number.

Got a bit worried when Leon was slow to get up... but he seemed OK. Ware is definitely ahead of Banks now, and he took snaps with the 1's and 2's today. Sean Ryan is getting a lot of time with the 1's as well, but he seemed to have turned an ankle, not too badly, but I don't think he went back in in the late 11 on 11's.

Today's 11 on 11's were mostly the 2nd and thrid teamers. Penny and Clemens watched until the very late 2 minute drills. Looks like they are getting as much info as they can before making roster cutdown decisions. Wadsworth was out there... and also took a lap. Haynes has zero bullrush ability. He's a pure speed rusher. Here's a head scratcher... saw Bryan Thomas at DE in the 3-4 today. I know some don't agree, but whenever I key on Pouha, he plays well. Hicks is hard to even notice... at least for me.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If I remember anything else, I'll add it.

    Outstanding report!

You mention the need to keep both Stuckey and Jackson...what about, oh crap i can't think of his name now--the 70's are coming back to haunt me--the other receiver who caught a few passes against the Falcons??? you know who I mean? DAMN! Anyway, I didn't see a mention of him and he looked like a keeper Friday night.

Hell of a job, always exciting to hear about Stuckey and Bender getting better. How is Sean Ryan's run blocking? He can go get passes no doubt, but can he block off a Safety or LB?

You goin tomorrow Jc? I think I will.

Wright will make the team... which is why I didn't mention him with Stuckey and Jackson in that comment.

Ryan's blocking seems to be at least adequate, but I have to say I wasn't watching that part of his game today. I will try to watch that more closely tomorrow.

Thanks for the report. Interesting note on Sean Ryan. I know it was just a playoff game, but after finally getting to watch the entire game, Ryan would have challenged Clemens for game MVP. He seems to have a little more upside than Baker to me, though seeing a white guy wearing 88 makes me want to downplay his performance for some reason...

So we're looking at Coles-Cotchery-McCareins-Smith-Wright-Jackson-Stuckey all making the roster? Even if you have Smith as the 3rd QB it's still at least 1 too many...

I agree, that's one too many. I think right now Jackson is on the bubble.

T-Bird, i may go tmw., we'll touch base in the morning.

And Dwight?!?! Way too many - we're going to have to cut at least one good WR. Personally, I think it's Wright. I just think we've got STers who can do what he does and WRs that can do what he does - there's nothing that he can do better than anyone.

TBird - you're blowing me away with your DL info, especially your Haynes info. This is the second time I've been like, REALLY?!?! He was blowing by Brick before, now he has no bullrush?! I thoguht that was his thing: all bullrush, no speed rush. Blows me away. I love hearing about Pouha being stout, but right now I'm really starting to worry that our D is not communicating enough - it seems all I hear about is the O hitting long completions and scoring, I'm not a fan of that. So, if you could, can you see if you notice any times where communication is key to either success or failure and how they (Vilma and Rhodes - the two main communicators on the D) react to it? Thanks for all you do, you're the ebst.

IMO....Coles, Cotch, JMac, Stuckey & Wright will be our 5 WRs on opening day. Wright has just impressed me, especially his play on Special teams. Jackson is the oddman out. BTW...Smith is a goner, can't make the squad riding a bike all camp.

T-Bird, thanks once again for a great report.

I'd love to see the notes if you and Jetcane meet up tomorrow. Add in a dose of Kurt and 227, and we're talking about never needing a newspaper again!

Seriously, thanks to everyone who does these reports for those of us who can't make it to camp. I raise a  to you!

I don't think I ever said Haynes was a bull rusher... I dod comment on how he ran dwon Brad Smith last week from the opposite side of the field to the sideline. That's when I was dumbfounded... he cut Smith's angle, and forced him to throw the ball away. I think most of his pressures last week weren't against Brick... someone corrected me on that... think it was Kurt. But, I do think he is easilly the best speed rusher on the team... but is that enough to stick?

These practices... the D and the O seem to have their days... when one squad is clicking, and the next day it flip flops. No doubt, we are thin at CB right now, and I will be sure to be at TC tomorrow in the hope Revis is there.

WW85, Eric Smith the DB has been on the bike, not Brad Smith the WR. Brad Smith makes the team just because of his offensive versatility and the fact he was a special teams demon last year. The competition at WR definitely looks tight.

If Revis signs as expected, i may have to go, too.

T_Bird outstanding report. just to follow up on a couple...

When Clemens took his lap and passed by the injured guys in the bike section, they were giving him a lot of abuse about it, LOL.

I did see kendall get in at LG with the 1s at the very end, right before and during the last set of 11s.

In a classic example of how doing well in practice comes at the expense of a teammate, you saw Barrett being victimized, and i saw jackson making a good play. It's all good.

Agreed. This CS does not settle for mediocrity.

I misspoke...I meant to say Tim Dwight (Dwight's been hurt)..Brain fart:). I expect Tui to be gone and Brad Smith # 3 at QB/Wr/RB slash player.....I stilll feel Coles, Cotch, Mac, Stuckey & Wright are the 5 WRs....with Smith thrown in at times. We can't cut Wright , his value alone on special teams is critical, the kid is a demon.

Yeah, I agree with Dwight. With all the young talent I'll be very surprised if he makes the final roster.
