Anyone ever think of putting him at ss and moving rhodes to free? It sounds kinda weird but i mean we all know how fast vilma is he is in on dime packages hes got some height and can tackle well. I mean its probably been thought of by coaches and i know he hasnt ever played that position but just a thought.
oh by all means im ok with him playing lb but its 330 in the morning im a lil delirious and i was just thinking
He's still 230-235...thats a little big for SS, plus he is a great MLB, he just needs to fit our system better. Honestly, if he wants to be a playmaker and not just make big money, he should leave when he becomes a FA because performance-wise the 3-4 jsut will never allow him to be the LB he can be...
He's not right for the 3-4. He just doesn't have the impact required of one of the middle guys and he's too small to play outside. The longer the Jets wrestle with this fact the slower the maturation of the defense will be. Trade him or move back to a 4-3. Those are the options that will work. Keep him in the 3-4 and there will always be an issue there right in the middle of the D.
I personally don't like the 3-4 anyways.....I wish we stayed with the 4-3 all along....that said, we started switchinn between 3-4 and 4-3 a lot more in the second half of last season, so if we go 60/40 this year I think Vilma will be fine.
I don't think we need to have Vilma traded or released if we continue to stay in the 3-4. Granted, with O linemen coming off the snap right to him doesn't help, but in the second half of last year it seemed like we were shifting around a lot more into different schemes that catered to Vilma to have that freedom. Yet, if we don't throw around the same formations and Vilma is doubled up and unable to shed 'em, than it becomes a concern which would suck because Vilma is a machine.
i think greg buttle mentioned something about throwing him in a 5-2. Don't know how that would work with Vilma but the thought seemed interesting...
I think a 5-2 would do wonders for Vilma, he would have the free range he did in the 4-3, but alot more is put on him... he'd do well in that. We have a flexible 3-4 and i'm sure the year he'll dod fine.
Ehh...if someone can run well they can play safety no matter how much they weigh. There's a guy on Southern Cal - Taylor Mays and he weighs close to 240 as a rising sophomore and at their spring workout he was timed at running a 4.38. I don't know how souped up their stop watches are, but if a guy runs a 4.3 and weighs 240 pounds, he's gonna murder most receivers that come near him in the NFL.
Vilma is smart, he understands what he needs to do, and we all know about his athletic ability. He has a year behind him, under this system, and I think he's gonna do great this time around.
