Jets backup safety Eric Smith went down in the morning practice with what appears to be a serious knee injury.

The injury seems to be right above his right knee. He appeared to slip on the wet grass, and had to be carted off the field."He will get back as soon as he can," said Jets coach Eric Mangini.

It's the same leg he hurt the other day...let the second guessing begin.

It's really too bad, he was looking very, very good in tc.

Apparently we've used up all of our luck in avoiding the injury bug. Seems like we're hearing about quite a few injuries out of TC this season.

ugh - I was really looking forward to the competition between him and Coleman. Let's hope it's not serious. What is the ligaments on the top of the knee?

Secondary is pretty banged up at his point. Miller and Smith, the two guys who seemed to have stepped it up the most so far in TC are hurt now. We can only hope it's not too serious.

There are patella ligaments that keep the kneecap aligned.

The quad runs down to above the kneecap. I've heard of torn quad injuries and they usually required surgery.

(I'm not a doctor, but i stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night) ;-)

Damn, I was really hoping he would beat out Coleman this season, I loved what I saw from him in his time last season.

    This sucks.

    Dyson injured
    Miller injured
    Smith injured
    Revis not signed

    Brady and company week 1

Yeah, this is all becoming a little disconcerting. I was fairly comfortable with our total defense (not as much as our offense), but at least fairly comfortable overall that we could be competitive. Now all of a sudden, our DBs are falling apart left and right. What's next, Rhodes?

I guess we go to the wires again today...

That would be patella tendon, which extends straight from the quadricep

The depth at DB is getting scary.

Anyone have info on how Rashad Washington has preformed in camp so far?

this is bound to happen when you take guys with injury histories; that was one of the knocks when the Jets selected him so early.

we're getting thin in the defensive backfield. i knew this would happen.

I bet he either hurt his quad or strained/tore his meniscus...i tore my meniscus at football in high school and I came back the next day with minor pain, only to fall the me knees in the extreme pain that i felt when i first hurt my knee after making a cut on the wet field. With a torn mensicus, you basically can't support any weight on that particular knee.
