Weird that the Sox should go on a cold streak after playing good baseball for 3 months, but not the Yanks, who have just recently started swinging for something meaningful. I didn't say the RedSox have the Yanks number, just that they have been playing well all season, not just 4 weeks in a row.
The RedSox always play good in the first half. They have for as long as I can remember. It's the second half that usually ends up smacking them in the face. BTW, the Yankees have been playing .672 ball since June 1st. Hardly 4 weeks.

While the Red Sox have been playing pretty much .500 ball since that date. Basically, the Sox had a scorching hot April and May... by far the best record in baseball... and they have been "okay" since then (32-30 since then, I think?). The Yankees had a crappy April and May, a decent June (16-11) and have posted the best record in baseball since May 30th. The difference between the two teams right now... those five games... are due to the fact that the Yankees' record was very poor in April in May, while the Sox's record has been merely okay since their hot start. The Sox haven't hit a pronlonged slump. This is very much a part of their strong pitching. But that dude shouldn't pooh-pooh the Yankees' performance..... unless he's just feeling a need to whistle past the graveyard, of course. Incidentally, the adjusted standings now show that the Yanks expected W/L ahead of the Sox. All season long it had shown that the Yankees were not as bad as their record indicated. They lost some weird games, but I think at the worst, they were only five or six back of the Sox in the adjusted standings. What's the point of all of this? The point is, you're not necessarily seeing some strange out-of-nowhere surge from this team. You're more likely seeing the normalization of some strange early season trends. But whatever it is, the Yankees have returned the best results in all of baseball since June 1st. The Sox had a great April and May. So who has the more prolonged trend of good baseball? The Yankees. Who has shown the more prolonged trend of merely adequate baseball? The Red Sox. Now, "merely adequate baseball" might be enough to get the Sox the division, thanks to their super-hot start. But it might not be, either. We'll probably have a better idea of what is likely to happen before the two teams even face each other again. These upcoming series are HUGE for the Yanks. They did what they needed to do against the crap of the league... now they need to show that it's not just because it was the crap of the league.
