Flame-throwing pitcher Joba Chamberlain will join the Yankees today in Toronto.

Chamberlain's father, Harlan, confirmed the call-up to the Times Herald-Record yesterday. Joba Chamberlain left Triple-A Scranton (Pa.) and was scheduled to arrive in Toronto last night.

Chamberlain, 21, could even pitch in relief of Roger Clemens tonight. The Yankees have not officially announced the move.

Awesome. Glad to hear he's here. Not sure why Bruney lost his spot though.

I wonder if someone else will be moved before the game to make room for Mr. Giambi...

it was kinda like Joe Smith being sent down for the Mets.

Odd, but sometimes it's because the other guys couldn't be sent down, or because they want to give him a rest from the major league pressure. Could be also that, like Smith, Bruney has struggled some lately. 4 bad performances since July 20th

There's no question Bruney has had some trouble the past couple months. I just find it curious that it's him that takes the fall, rather than someone like Villone who isn't any better (arguably worse, albeit the only lefty,) or Farnsworth (who has been dismal.)

I'm not incredibly surprised though. I'm just waiting to see who gets the boot to make room for Giambi. I have a feeling it's going to be Cairo, which sort of bothers me, considering he was a big spark for the team earlier in the year. Betemit makes him obsolete now though.

I think it's a little different. Smith got sent down because he was still young and inexperienced, hitters knew the book on him now so his sidearm deception wasn't enough.

I really can't figure out why Bruney would be demoted, aside from having options.

(Does he have options, or was he DFA'd?)

I posted in the Yankee Series thread earlier that Cairo was suppose to go on the DL to make room for Giambi and that Reese was suppose to be DFA to make a roster spot for Chamberlain

Villone is the only leftie in the pen now. Chamberlain most resembles Bruney in the type of pitchers they are.

    pretty sure he has options.

other guys would've had to have passed through waivers in order to be sent down. don't think bruney has to

anyway, it hasn't been officially announced, so maybe Karstens would be sent down instead

The original thing was that Karstens would go down for Chamberlain and Bruney for Ramirez later this week. He is also coming up. Their was an article in the Daily News this morning about all of it.

August 7, 2007 -- TORONTO - Having cleared up a passport issue, stud pitching prospect Joba Chamberlain flew here yesterday and will be in the Yankees' bullpen tonight. The club planned to have the gas-throwing right-hander for yesterday's victory over the Blue Jays but the paperwork caused a delay.

Brian Bruney is expected to be sent to Scranton Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to make room for Chamberlain, who went from Tampa (Single- A) to Trenton (Double-A) to SWB this year and has been converted from a starter to a reliever.

    ===========

different reports saying different things because no one really knows more than the fact that Joba came to Toronto yesterday.

I saw your post in the other thread Don. I just figured with this move being different than the scenario you posted, that everything was changed.

I don't really care how the moves get done. Anyone from the pen but Viz and Mo can go, and it's addition by subtraction. While I like Cairo, for the things he's done for us, I won't be heartbroken to see him go.

Here's my list of untouchables (in order of importance.) Everyone else can be DFA'd, waiver traded, whatever:

    Mo
    ARod
    Jeter
    Posada
    Cabrera
    Cano
    Vizcaino
    Phillips
    Abreu
    Matsui
    Duncan

Damon teeters on the edge of that list, and the "F Him, ship him to Tampa Bay" list. Betemit is probably on that list above, given he can play multiple positions and hit better than Cairo.

Everyone else is available to be moved for space for Giambi, Chamberlain, and possibly Ramirez. (I'm still not sold on Cheeseburger though.) I'd also like to give Karstens another shot at an appearance before dumping him again, but whatever.

It's an as-of-right-now list. At this point in time, I like what Duncan has brought to the team. He's been a source of excitment on the bench, and I don't think that should be discounted.

You'll notice that he's the last guy on the list as well, right above the Damon line. I think that's a pretty fair assessment of the guy, no?

I think all these people will be back up after September 1st and then they will all get a chance to see who should be here next year.

Bruney sent down? What the hell?

You're going to keep Farnsworthless over him? Thanks Joe...Moron.
