Calm down! Talk about high strung.

By the way, I grew up in New Jersey. I'm not from Chapel Hill, I just live here. There is a difference.

And I never said Todd was great. I just think his seasons as Jets QB in 1981-1982 were better than anything that O'Brien or Esiason gave us.

I bet you're one of the people who thinks Namath shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame because his Passer Rating is too low, and he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Right?

Todd was a very mediocre to below average QB, unlike Pennington, he did win two playoff games in a row to advance to the third round.

I would Put those Victories a much on the Defense and Freeman Mcneil than Richard Todd

I am Homer like most of us Jets Fans but lets be honest Pennington is heads above Todd as a Qb

No thanks to Todd as evidenced by his 4 Tds 12 ints in the playoffs..

If Todd was in the same offense that Pennington is now running, he would have had very good stats. Todd never did the "dink and dunk". He went down town....he went deep...he took chances....he was exciting. Now don't get me wrong...I'm a HUGE Pennington fan. But sorry...Todd was much more fun to watch. I loved the guy. Even with all his faults, he was NEVER dull.

No argument from me Freeman was much better than Curtis and Wesley Walker and Derrick Gafney were much better than Coles and Cotch.:eek:hmy:

Except that you're wrong and Todd's year in 81 and 82 was every bit as good as Pennington's year in 02 and 04.

Todd had two years his entire career that he had more tds than interceptions & one of those years he only played 9 games.. Plus he shit the bed in nearly every playoff game he played.

Say what you will about Pennington but if I'm starting a team and my choices are Pennington and Dick Todd, there isn't a question it is Pennington all the way.

Todd was a below average QB, Pennington is an above average QB but hey at least Todd had a strong arm..

BTW, how am I wrong again? Did he not throw 4 tds while throwing 12 ints in his playoff career? Was he not a major reason the Jets lost those two playoff games?

I'm just betting that you didn't see Todd and had no idea the situation he came into with the Jets?

Pennington was a guy who was coddled from day one, had an OC brought in specifically for him, couldn't win the job from a washed up QB and finally took over a solid team ready to compete for a SB in 02 after failing to win the job in camp two years in a row. Todd took over for a legend who was done on a crap team with crappy coaching. He was thrown into the fire his first year. When Michaels finally turned the team around Todd produced and took the team a team no better than any team Pennington has QB further than Pennington has. Todd wasn't a great QB by any means and neither is Pennington. Todd unlike Pennington was thrown into an absolute horrible situation with the Jets.

Richard Todd was my first hero, I became a fan at the tale end of his Jets career(his only good seasons) and am well aware of the situation he came into.None of that changes the fact that he was a below average QB that never lived up to what his talent would suggest.

Ahh, that was more about Herman Edwards being a pussy. Edwards had no balls, no gumption, no smarts to get Testaverde out of there. It was also mindless from a salary cap standpoint to sit Pennington in 2001.

The difference was Todd's teams of 1981 and 1982 had better defenses than Pennington's teams of 2002 and 2004.

Not covering the field when it rains before the game is just as illegal as the snow plow incident which made the FG easier just like the mud made it easier for the Dolphins defense to stop the Jets. Remember, Freeman McNeil got his yards by making cuts without losing speed which he couldn't do in the mud. Also, Wesley Walker could not get open in the mud because he had to slow down. NE still had to make the FG, clearing the snow did not guarantee that. And points scored in the first three quarters count as much as the last points of the game. And since when doing something illegal counts only if it is done at the end of the game?

Any Jet fan that takes Boomer over Todd should be beaten with reeds.

The 04 Jets were very comparable the 02 Jets D wasn't very good.

In The Snowplow Game Patriots head coach Ron Meyer had a convict clear an area of snow so placekicker John Smith could kick a field goal on the turf. He may not have made the kick if the ball was placed on snow.
There were no unfair advantages at any other point in that game.

I am not sure that there was a rule in place in 1982 that said teams must cover their fields the night before a game if rain was in the forecast. If there was a rule in place, then the Jets got screwed bad and should have protested or something.
If there was no rule, then there is no reason to bitch. What were the 1982 Jets- a bunch of little babies?

I hate when teams complain about playing in poor conditions when their opponents have to play in the same damn conditions.

What happened in the 1982 Dolphins-Patriots game was wrong. To me, what happened in the 1982 AFC Championship Game was not wrong...unless there was a rule (and if there was a rule, the Dolphins were not penalized; that makes me think there was no such rule in place).
Dan Rooney and the Steelers complaining about playing in snow against the Jets in 2003? More bullshit.

I suppose you could say the 2004 Jets defense was comparable to the 1981 and 1982 Jets defenses. My problem with the 2004 team was it halted some very poor teams which skewed the stats. They won games with Quincy Carter at quarterback because some of their opponents were really pitiful. When it came time for Weeks 16 and 17 and the Jets had not yet clinched a playoff spot they proceeded to give up 23 and 32 points, respectively. The defense failed in crunch time.
Of course, the Steelers scout team went into Buffalo in Week 17 and beat the red hot Bills and put the Jets in the playoffs. Then in the first round playoff game the Jets defense couldn't stop the San Diego offense when it really mattered at the end of regulation. The defense also helped put San Diego in position to win the game in overtime but Nate Kaeding missed a field goal.

How many points did the Jets O put up against SD and Pittsburgh in the 04 playoffs?

I seem to remember a game when Todd set the record for most attempts and maybe in completions , against the niners I think and all he did was dink and dunk-- dont fool yourself Todd was the master of the Swing pass to the RB.
