Huge series. Need to keep winning. Yankees start playing tough teams soon...need to create some distance

Dude that isn't right. As much as I hate what Schilling has done to the Yankees in the past, he is a standup guy, and one of the true big game pitchers of this era.

I don't like him, but I'd never wish anything bad on him.

I think I'm with Hofstra Jet on this one. Not because of what Schilling has done to the Yankees. (I actually respect him as a pitcher.) But the dude is one of the biggest blowhards I've ever seen in professional sports. More than that. He's an ass, even among a group of people (pro athletes) who are notorious for being asses. He's their king. I think he's worse than T.O. and Randy Moss, because when he opens his mouth, he takes himself seriously and expects others to do the same. T.O.? He's a self-absorbed prick, yeah, but it's like a five-year-old. He's just impulsive. Schilling's a tool on an entirely different order of magnitude. (Incidentally, I've felt this way his entire career. Always hated him, even back when he was with the Phillies.)

Okay okay... maybe I wouldn't actually WISH harm on him. But let's just say that if harm happened to randomly find him, I probably wouldn't be able to surpress an initial cackle of delight. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

See, I don't feel like that. He has a big mouth, but he often isn't wrong. Plus, I once read an interview with him where he basically said it shouldn't be viewed poorly when someone like Clemens throws at a guy. He explained it's a tool that's been taken away from pitchers, which it is. I always respected that. He wasn't saying it's okay to end a guy's career, but pitchers should be allowed to come in without all the BS.

Plus, there's no denying this guy is one of the most reliable, and hardcore big game pitchers in the league. I'd take him on my team any day.

You need to come listen to the sports talk radio up here when he's on. It's not just about being right or wrong... actually, yes it is. That's the main beef I have with him. Let me see if I can put it this way:

You say he isn't often wrong. By that, you mean that you agree with his opinions... which is fine. I agree with some of his opinions, too. But it's about him thinking he's right... KNOWING he's right... on subjects that have absolutely no business being discussed in those terms. He's a pompous ass, and while he may or may not hold opinions you agree with, how he carries himself and presents those opinions will always rub me the wrong way.

Good points. The thing is, I view him like a journalist. That's the way he conducts himself. Just like journalists, he puts his own spin on his stories, and tells it "the way he sees it."

I'm not of the mindset that a player shouldn't be a journalist. Nothing the major media does these days qualifies as journalism, so anyone who "acts" like a media person, is a media person, IMO.

But journalists, even today, know they are being journalists when they're doing their thing... and (most of them) don't act pissy or offended if someone else disagrees with their spin. If they do, those are the ones I don't like (e.g. Bill O'Reilly). If you ever listen to a Schilling call-in/interview on talk radio, he's alternately "telling you how it is" (even if it's not how it is) and you can almost hear him rolling his eyes if someone disagrees. I can't stand that.

Ahhh, gotcha. Well, I've never heard a Schilling call-in. I'll take your word for it.

Still doesn't change my opinion of the guy though.
