Did you see Jeter quick call time out when the fans turned all their cameras on him? Walked away, blinked a few times. Says what Arod is going through in every at bat. Of course you can't say anything or fans in every ballpark everywhere will start that crap with every hitter.
The good news about ARod is he is hitting again, the HRs will come but at least he has started to hit the ball again. The Yanks have done a great job winning seris but we really need to sweep KC this weekend.
sheesh..now they are talking about bringing Mientkiewicz back too. he starts a rehab in Tampa on Monday...I really hope they don't ruin this team with all these people..it couldn't be playing much better now..I still think they need to get rid of Farnsworth and Myers to make room for Chamberlain and Giambi but I don't see them doing it.
Well the bech isn't going to be a problem anymore, hopefully these guys are team guys and don't let egos get in the way of winning. UI just want to see the guys who come back earn their playing time unlike Matsui and sheff a year ago(yes I just bashed Joe).
Yeah, Sheff especially wasn't ready. I could see them releasing Cairo to make a spot too but not until Betemit shows he can play first in a pinch. Although maybe it makes sense to release Cairo for Giambi. I just hope it's not Duncan. I can't think of anybody I would rather at the plate in a PH Sac Fly situation more then him. He hits everything hard and far even if he doesn't get a hit and he has his BA up to .321 anyway.
I think duncan has been huge for this team, he hasn't played much but his enthusiasm has really helped this team loosen up a bit. No way would I get rid of duncan.
Starting to look a little like '96 with all the good in-house young players starting to make noise. We even have the pitchers almost ready and no place to put them. But Cabrerra, Wang, Hughes, Cano, Phillips and Duncan all can play.
Actually I think it's looking more like '95 where we had div title expectations but got off to a brutal 1st half only to come back and win the WC while sprinkling in young pitching like Pettitt into the ration(Hughes this year) and Mariano in the pen(Joba coming up soon). Like Joba Mariano was a starter they converted into a reliver during that '95 season though Marinao wasn't as highly touted as a starter as Joba is.
Yeah, interesting story on Mo. They were going to release him because he stunk as a starter (Chamberlain doesn't and they still want him to be one). Then whoever the pitching coach was said "You know he can throw 100 MPH". I think that was told to Stick. He said "no f***ing way, let's get a radar gun and go see". The rest, as they say is history.
What do you guys think is going to happen to the Yankee roster when Giambi and D. Mint are ready to come off the disabled list? Is Cairo's position on the team in jeopardy?
I think it must be. I think Myers is too. You can't afford to take up a spot for a guy that can only pitch to one batter and then rarely get him out. I wouldn't hurry Mint back anytime soon and I hope they don't. We have no need for him at all anymore. They can bring him up after 9/1 when the roster expands if they want.
As far as who stays and who goes, we are all but positive Giambi will rejoin the team. While it doesn't excite me, as a revolving DH, and PH option off the bench, you really can't ask for more than what Giambi can give you. I'd still love the guy if it weren't for the steroids, so I can't act like Giambi wouldn't help the team if he were here. I think Duncan has earned his spot here. I don't think it'll be him that loses his job. Cairo is probably in danger of being gone. It's unfortunate for him too, since he has been a key this year. With Betemit he became expendable though. Phillips has to stay, IMO. He's been a sparkplug ever since being recalled. IMO, this year, as he's done in the past, he's earned a permanent spot with the ML club. Why he keeps being sent back down is beyond me. Myers has to go. I'm sure if we released him he would immediately latch on somewhere, so there's no risk of paying him to sit. He just can't help us, and he's nothing but frustrating when he comes in. I've given up on Farnsworth. The pen needs revamping, and he's one of the guys that needs to go. Sadly, he'll probably not be released, since I'm sure Cashman will want to deal him for something in the offseason. That means were probably stuck with him eating a roster spot for the rest of the year. Does Bruney have options? That's an important question. If he does, he could be a prime candidate. Let him go down, and give him another shot in spring training again. He can pitch, but he's been getting himself into too much trouble. I think he's worth giving another shot next year, but not right now. I'd like to dump Villone, but then we'd be without a lefty option in the pen (if we mercifully dump Myers.) Unfortunately, Villone is probably here for the rest of the year. Sean Henn is still on the 25-man roster on the NYY site, but is he still here? They don't have Hughes listed yet, so that might be the 1-1. I'd be curious to see more work for Henn. Who knows if he could do something with regular work? The only other guy legitimately "expendable" would be Damon. However, when he's hitting, we really get a boost from him, so I wouldn't be quick to unceremoniously dump him off. While he angers me on nights he does nothing right, he's great on nights he does anything at all. It just drives me crazy that he's so icy cold or fiery hot. So I guess my first move would be Myers for Chamberlain, after Henn for Hughes. If Bruney's got options, then it has to be him for Giambi. That actually might not be so bad either. With a pen combination of Karstens, Chamberlain, Vizcaino, Rivera, with only spot appearances by Farnsworth and Villone, along with the way our rotation has pitched of late (excluding Clemens the other day,) we could have a nice pitching staff the rest of the way. And that would bring us back in line with having a sensible number of pitchers (11) with a sizable bench.
I agree, but I think they said they are planning on going with twelve pitchers. My guess is: Henn > Hughes. (Good) Bruney > Chamberlain (Also good. Likely a big upgrade. Yes, Bruney has options.) Cairo > Giambi (Great.) Duncan > Doug M. (Awful, but I bet it happens.) My additional dream moves would be: Myers > Edwar Ramirez Britton (once he's healthy) > Farnsworth (DFA) And I'd prefer if Bruney stayed up, too... but whaddyagonnado?
Hughes isn't activated yet. Henn will go today. I think they will put Farnsworth on waivers to see if there is any interest. We still owe him 8 million and everybody will want him for nothing. I doubt we let that happen even though he may not see anything but action in a huge loss anytime this season. Wasted spot. Bruney for Chamberlain would be great. Villone looked pretty good his last couple of innings. Certainly better then Myers who can't get the ball over the plate anymore. BTW, they sent Chamberlain back to Scranton yesterday but he didn't pitch in either game. Trying to keep track of him is getting harder. Like playing a shell game.
The moves just went down. Colter Bean was DFA'd to make room for Hughes on the 40-man. Hughes up. Henn optioned.
That leaves an opening on the 40..probably for Chamberlain. Hughes was already on the 40, wasn't he? Bah..nevermind, I forgot he was on the 60 day list which means he wasn't active on the 40. Giambi was on the 15 so he still has a spot. Minky doesn't.
