You an tell Mangold and D'brick's personalities are completely different after I met both of them yesterday after practice. D-brick- He was very laid back. Some fan told him all the fans loved him the most on the team since he was signing autographs for everyone. He replied that he was happy to hear that but said if Chad started signing for everyone everyone would run away from him and go get Chad. When he said that, I said "D'brick, who is Chad?" He laughed at that. Then another fan gave him a marker to sign and he dropped it so my friend screamed out "fumble!" to which D'brick laughed and said "Look, Im only an offensive lineman!" Mangold- He had no sense of humor. He was signing autographs as well and I go "Nick, in your honest opinion, who do you think is the better football player, you or your sister?" He gets pissed and says thats a real silly thing to say and I go I was only joking and he says no you weren't. I guess Mangold can't take a joke. With that being said, I am still really happy we got both players in last year's draft. They should only get better with more experience under the belts.
I think Nick is really sensitive about his sister, the guy may not be up tight so much as you hit a sore point with him
haha dude it's gotta be hard to take jokes lightly about your sister who is over 300 pounds. He's prolly so embarrased of her.
People probably say crap about his sister on a consistent basis. I would assume he hears it at every road game. He probably doesn't want to hear it from Jets fans as well.
I really don't think it's fair to label Mangold uptight or as someone who can't take a joke after you just made fun of his little sister. As light-hearted as you may have meant it to sound, it definately wasn't a simple joke, and I don't blame him at all for getting irritated.
You insulted him a bit, i guess he thought you were making fun of his sister. It's a little too personal. Also remember, by the end of practice these guys are tired as hell, some of them are banged up and "pissed". They were nice enough to sign your stuff, don't expect them to be happy and to have a sense of humor during training camp.
What are you talking about? There was a huge Mangold special on ESPN when we drafted Nick. Plus there is another video of him and his sister on NYjets.com. He is proud of her.
Yea, I defenitely hear you. I guess he just took it the wrong way because I did not mean to insult him anyway. If anything, I think its really cool that an NFL Player has a sister who also plays football. But, like all the other posters said, he probably has gotten insulted about it all the time on road games so he just assumed I meant it as insult. I dont really care tho what kind of sense of honor he has, as long as he plays as well as he did last year.
Mangold is the man and is not uptight at all. I have talked to him a few times and he seems kind and cool. Anyone would act that way when you insult their family. (Or atleast they take it that way since you didn't mean it like that.)
I didn't see either of them signing yesterday. Was this the AM practice? Rhodes stuck around for along time yesterday at the PM practice and signed for everyone. I also saw Coleman and I believe Miller hanging around for a while. It's nice to see them doing that. At the dorms Coles signed for apparently the first time ever according to someone. Cotchery signed and so did Rhodes again. Rhodes seems like a great guy and people were calling him Hollywood at the dorms.
Yea, Mangold and D'brick were signing after the 1st practice. Rhodes and Cotchery signed at the dorm yesterday after the PM rpractice?
Rhodes signed on the field and at the dorms. Cotchery and Coles signed at the dorms also after the PM practice. Edit: Pics of the autographs in this album. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v146/DrewAlmighty/Jets Camp July 31st 2007/
LOL you insult his sister to his face to get an autograph and you expect him to be happy. It sounds like studdering John question Next time ask him for his autograph and say BTW your sister is one big bitch. See if the response is any different.
I know, but in no way did i mean it as an insult. I think its really cool that an NFL player has a sister who also plays football.
I know you probably didn't but it sounded pretty funny to me if you thought you would get a jovial response. I think you could have asked that type of question a lot more tactfully to elicit a humourous response. Trust me I am the king of obnoxious talking.
