Yanks, Mets And Red Sox Trying To Land Gagne
    29th July, 2007 - 4:07 pm
New York Post - The Yankees and Mets join the Red Sox as the teams still trying to land Rangers closer Eric Gagne as the trade deadline nears, The Post has learned.

However, neither the Yankees nor Mets seem willing to give up a significant prospect for a player who can be a free agent after the season.

Which is why I think the answer is neither.

And Boston isn't on his ok to be traded to list. Doesn't mean he wouldn't agree but he wants to close and has 4 million in bonuses this year alone based on how many games he closes. He wouldn't close on any of those three teams. I say he stays put.

    Interesting.

    Besides, I don't particularly want him. I want middle-relief. That's where we're weak.

yes but with gagne the yanks would get a set up man and can then use viscaino in middle relief

I think the Yankees have a deeper need for a setup man then the Mets, no?

Heillman has been pitching rather well of late.

And based on everything we see, we will have Chamberlain setting up soon and he would make Gagne look like a lark. He won't cost us anything either.

The problem is that him and Feliciano are the only ones that are somewhat dependable, and I still don't fully trust Heilman, we need bullpen help pretty bad

Chamberlain Call-Up To Take Yanks Out Of Gagne Trade Talks?
    30th July, 2007 - 1:57 pm
Star-Ledger - As of Sunday evening, it appeared the Yankees were content to call up Joba Chamberlain for the late-inning relief role and spend the next two days fishing around for a bench player or two unless something unforeseen falls into their laps between now and then. There's even some sentiment that it's not worth their while to deal for bench players, since they fear manager Joe Torre won't use them.

True..so true..but Chamberlain over Gagne would be a no-brainer. We'll know after Wednesday. He was officially put in the pen last night with 1 inning scheduled tonight and 1 wednesday..after that there is no schedule.

I would prefer he get more than a couple of innings in relief. It can't be that easy of an adjustment, can it?

Don't know. I found it interesting that they made a point of saying nothing is scheduled after Wednesday. Rumors on the weekend said he could be up by tomorrow. That won't happen now but maybe before the Cleveland series.
