The Yanks have that 8th inning against Baltimore Friday...8-6 lead. Phil Hughes allowed two hits over six scoreless innings Tuesday in his rehab start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He struck out seven and walked one while throwing 73 pitches. The terrific showing probably won't get him back to the majors this weekend -- the Yankees will likely want to build up his pitch count with one more start in the minors -- but he is close.
if a-rod homers in the suspended game that'll be resumed, that would be #493 and tonight's homer would be #500.
I guess we need to root for Boston to beat Cleveland today. Boston will be tough to catch. Just looking at the schedule and they have 15 left against TB and 13 against Baltimore. We have 11 or 14 (if you count Toronto) in this stretch that we need to win as many of as possible before our schedule gets hard for awhile.
I don't think so. The stats from the game up until it was suspended are not official until the game is completed but they have been carried in the season totals on the stat pages up until now anyway. Anything done after the game resumes would be added on at that point. So if he hits one in that game it would still be his 500th. He did have an rbi already in that game and it has been included since it was suspended even though it's not yet official.
you're wrong. that's how the stats are counted. the stats from that game are counted before the stats from this game. it's unlikely, but if a-rod homers tomorrow in the suspended game, it will NOT be counted as his 500th homer.
Nope, the HR in the suspended game as well as the stats will count towards on the day when that game started not when the game ended
If that's true and it were Bonds and not Arod and that turned out to be his 756th it would create a riot. I would just love to see how MLB handled that. You are talking about a ball that may be worth millions.
maybe, and it's a strange situation, but anything done in the resumption of the suspended game will be counted as if it were done on June 28th.
I guess the one sure way to tell will be if they put in the specially marked balls tomorrow night when he comes up to bat. There would be no reason to do that for his 493rd. I guess that also means he will be swinging for the fences when he does as he already has in his possession what would turn out to be the 500th. Then again maybe he won't play at all in that game just to keep that circus from happening. MLB may be rething their rules as we speak. I'm sure it was written before souvenir balls came with such a high price tag. That ball would be worth something if only for the fact Arod will be the youngest ever to reach 500.
The balls have been specially marked for the past few weeks. The last 4 or 5 ARod homers are sitting in the league office right now, just waiting for a collector to pay through the nose for it. Yis is right. If he hits a homer in the suspended game, even if he hits 4 tonight, last night's home run is #500. It's stupid, but it's also how it is. Interestingly, Jorge De LaRosa will be starting for the Royals tonight. Alex Rodriguez hit his 400th homer off of De LaRosa. Just an interesting little tidbit.
If there is one thing I hate more then having to watch Igawa pitch, its looking at his ugly grill and jacked up teeth...
3-0 KC. The Igawa experiment has turned into a 1st year bust. Hughes and or Karstens cannot come any faster.
After another leadoff double De La Rosa gets out of it unscathed... Well, they took the series at least.
