So the Yanks arent out of it for the playoffs:) . Glad im not in the wrong state of mind anymore.

    now...

Where did I ever say Hughes, and Joba would save our bacon. All Im saying in general is that I dont wanna trade kid who has a lot of potential and has great stuff. Im not just saying this blind knowing nothingg about the kid I actually have followed him and think he can bea real successful pitcher for the Yanks. Wait 2 years and you will hear the will the Yanks trade Jose Tabata for (pick a good slugger near 30 with an expiring contract in 2 years). Its not desperation its actually repleneshing your team with good young players. I dunno that sort of thing kinda appeals to me. And for the final time. Its not Joba for TEx, its Joba n #2 arm Ian Kennedy for Tex. Imagine a year ago if the Red Sox adopted your mentality and said well Papelbon is just some kid lets trade him for Mark teixiera. I dont want this kid up here for the sake of calling up youth, I want him up here b/c he can flat out pitch. Hence why he was invited to the Future's Game. You laugh now b/c you can look at the numbers of a all star 1B right now but if Joba Chamberlain realize his potential, you would laugh even harder 4 years from now if the Yanks traded Chamberlain for an aging Teix

Whether the Yanks have changed their spending habits is to be seen. What Cashman has shown however is that he wants to build this farm system into something special which it is on its way to being. We currently have a top 10 arguably top 5 pitching farm system. Our position players are lacking tho. You are seriously delusional if you think Hughes isnt pro ready. I guess no one in the minors is pro ready if baseball america ranked hughes the no. 1 pitching prospect going into this year.

Imagine a year ago if the Red Sox traded Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. Oh wait, that actually happened.

So are we still out of playoff contention? We have underachieved the last couple of years but yes I would call what the yanks put out there year after year for over a decade a high quality product

Yeah and? That trade isnt a steal for either side. Hanley Ramirez is a fine ball player and an all star caliber shortstop, Sanchez has not been in too much action this year but he looked very good last year. I think thats an even deal. Plus there is a difference between trading for an Ace caliber young starter then an All star first basemen

You want to keep the kids... God bless you. Over the next 5 weeks we'll see how in tune you are to Brian Cashman's state of mind. My projections are based on history not hope... despite the promises of many Yankee fans in this very spot the song has remained the same. The fact that Brian is the first to pay attention to the minor league system in a deccade may look good on paper but it's a long way from being the Tigers or Twins. With the Clemens signing we see all the talk of Brian finally being in control of it all and being committed to building is just that... talk.

Fogive my comment about Hughes... I'm simply a jaded Mets fan who has burnt too many times by projections, he's obviously the 2008 Cy Young winner in waiting. j/k

The Clemens issue doesnt effect the Yanks past this year so Im not really sure how that harms building towards the future. I admit I could be dead wrong about Chamberlain and he could be a dud but I just dont want to get rid of an arm like Chamberlain for a first basemen. Im not saying were gonna turn into the A's and spit out prospects out our a## who can play at the MLB level. But a couple of young pitchers with nasty stuff would go a long way to keeping this team a contender for the future. I try not to let the history of past prospect failures cloud my current ones. Even tho I dont remember the cant miss arms the Yanks have had the last 5 years. Brandon Claussen maybe? Once again I dont try and speak for Yankees fans or the team just for how I view we should do things

Contention? No. But then neither are the Cardinals... I'd put you guys in the same boat. It doesn't surprise me for one second that Yankee fans believe this team can just flip a switch and make the playoffs... your entire media base has been preaching it for months, but reality often has a humbling effect.

Flip a switch? Are you aware that the next two games for the AL Wildcard Cleveland Indians are against the Red Sox, one of which is started by Josh Beckett. If the Yanks win out the remaining two games versus Kansas City and Boston just takes one of the next two. The Yankees would be a whopping 3 GAMES BACK IN THE LOSS. False hope breeds eternal

For at least the past 5 years the AL Wild card has won 95 games or better... that puts this team, which has struggled to stay above .500 all year, at 43-21 (.671) for the rest of the way just to get the wild card... did I say flip a switch? Well they better flip it quick.

Instead of catching the Indians they have to win 95 games?

Why chase the Indians record in July? Clearly the standard for getting the wildcard is at (or very close to) 95 wins for a long time now... you think .650 play (or better) is within the Yanks realm for the next 60 games? Based on what?

They've shown no signs of being close to that this year... that's why I call it flipping a switch. This team has shown to be slightly better then .500 over the past 100 games... what's going to change that? Do you expect players to suddenly turn it around? Do you expect them to acquire talent without trading young players? Where is the change coming from ChadMan?

So according to your assessment for the Indians or Mariners to win the wildcard they have to play close to .610 ball, for the Yanks to win they have to play .650 ball and for the Twins to win the wildcard they have to play .650 plus ball, is that correct? Your telling me I should be counting down the games to 95 instead of the games behind cleveland? Im sorry but that really isnt logical. Were chasing the Indians not a win total. This team as currently built can catch the Indians before the season ends and they do NOT have to play .650 ball

No, he's projected as a closer. Every bit as valuable as a starter.

They have a .761 winning percentage in July. .645 since June 1st. Both easily the best in all of baseball. I would say it's flipped.

I've got to say this ranks up there among the most ridiculous statements I've seen posted here. You'd have a hard time EVER making the case that a closer is as valuable as a starter. Without qualifying that statment I'd say it would impossible.

Not sure where you got your numbers from Don but they're wrong.

In 27 games in June the yankees went 16-11 which ='s .592 not .645
In 23 games in July the yankees have gone 16-6 which ='s .727 not .761.

The Cubs are right there with them as the hottest team in baseball since June so I don't know where your logic for "easily" the best in all of baseball comes from.

The Yanks have to play .660 baseball for the rest of the season to be in the wild card race. You feeling confident they can do that for 2 months Don when a third of those games are against first place teams? We're not talking about the Royals and Devil Rays the rest of the way. It's your call but you know where my money is... you better flip that switch again because they're going to need to be near perfect to make it.

I haven't done the numbers for the other teams but the Yankees have to play better then .650 base closer to .670 to get to the WC by my projestions (95 wins). Take it or leave it but that's how I see it shaking down based on history.

So make your projection... tell me how many wins will clinch the WC and then tell me if you believe they will do it.

I dont know how many games will win the wild card. I know we will be right there at the end and are right there right now. The Mariners are 4 games back, and were 4.5. SO I guess the Indians have clinched already
