While the Texas Rangers are pushing switch-hitting first baseman Mark Teixeira hard on the New York Yankees, they aren't biting. Especially since the Rangers have eyes for stud pitching prospect Joba Chamberlain. "They have told teams (Chamberlain) is untouchable," an AL talent evaluator said of the Yankees, who are very close to promoting Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. We don't need Teixeira, his 9 million dollar salary and Scott Borus as his agent. He has another year of arbitration and there is no way in the world Borus lets him sign a contract without going through free agency. Add to that the 23 million we owe Giambi next year and I don't see any chance of it happening. I think they won't be able to trade him at all and then next year we will be all over him as he becomes a free agent in 2009.
Teixeira is a waste and will only add to the problem. We already have solid gloves at first base, and the last thing we need is more offense. It's completely pointless.
Maybe it's just because every Mets pitching prospect since the 80s has been a bust(except for the guy they traded for trash) but it doesn't sound like the Rangers are asking for too much here. He's played a (very) little OF in his career but even so you've got to figure he can't be that much worse then Green out in RF, and then of course he could move back to 1B once they dumped Delgado.
They are asking for the moon and the kitchen sink. That's why I think they will still have him on 8/1. Nobody is willing to meet their price yet and there are at least 4 teams interested.
we have a chemistry going with Andy right now. Until it doesn't work anymore, leave it be. We have enough bats, more than enough and we have all year. They just weren't producing.
I would consider Pelfrey and Milledge for Tex. However, we can't take him with Delgado there in the middle of the season.
Im glad the Yanks will not budge on Kennedy and Joba. Finally they have decided that its time to build from within and actually have inexpensive young arms. Joba might be Mo's successor
Wait a second, this guy doesn't even project as a starter and the Yankees won't give him up for Teixeira? Next year is going to be ALOT of fun as a Yankee hater if things play out the way the "glory days" Yankee fans want them to. With the evil A-Rod out of town and the Yankees finally correcting their mistakes of bringing in immensely talented hitters to anchor their team I'm sure things will be looking up. Because if there's one surefire way to improve a team its by replacing talented players with less talented ones(with TrueYankee intangibles).
This isnt about the old Yankees way its about actually being smart like teams like the Tigers and building up arms in your farm system have them pitch effectively for you for low money and actually have (gasp) youth in the rotation. If we are going to build this team back to where it needs to be we cant just trade our top arms(plural b/c it would be Joba and someone else) for Teixiera. Teixiera is a really good player and I would love him in pinstripes but I would rather have the potential of these guys from the farm then another hitter come october. To knock a guy who pitched in the futures game on talent is funny. Chamberlain currently has a good fastball and wicked slider and two other pitches which are major league ready but need work. He currently stands as a player to come out of the pen but was projected by many to be ready by mid season next year. IF we wanted Teixiera we would have to give up Joba and another top pitcher which would be too much IMO. As far as A-Rod goes just give him a blank check and keep him in pinstripes for his career.
Couldn't have said it better myself... don't we hear about how great these Yankee farm hands are evry year and how they're just going to plug them in and keep rolling along?!?!?! What a F'n JOKE!! I can't wait till the day 10Pennington10 decides to "find" this site again in his favorites... I love the guy but he was the leader of that brigade year after year... what happened? Oh lord no... don't give up a prospect for a proven player!!
I cant speak for him but all I can say are there havent been too many arms in a while that I have been slam dunked sold on outside of Hughes. Joba is one of them. That and its not just Joba its probably Joba and Ian Kennedy
Well, a team like the Tigers doesn't have an unlimited payroll like the Yankees do. The Yankees don't need cheap, young arms like the A's to compete. They need good pitchers period. The problem they're finding themselves in this season is they've got old, overpaid and bad arms.
Joba is a good arm young and inexpensive which is as good as it can get. I would rather have the potential of Joba and (insert #2 pitching prospect) then another 20 mil per year hitter who will break down in 5 years. I am aware that all prospects dont pan out, but that doesnt mean you should just trade away the young guys for known commodities
The fact that you even mentioned October and this team in the same sentence tell's me all I need to know about the level of denial I'm dealing with here. You want to be the Tigers... think you got what it takes? Sure it's nice to talk about commitment to building from within and drafting and developing players but it doesn't happen overnight. Think your boys could withstand 110+ losses while you let these guys develop? The crew around here was thristy for blood when the team sat below .500 for a month or so. They wanted everybody traded and everybody fired... your talking about a minor leaguer with some good stuff... they don't last long in the Bronx, look at the track record.
Which also gives them a longer and more patient timeline for developing these guys. Cashman is on the clock...
You dont have to lose 110 games to call up your guys. If it was up to the fans we would have dealt Phil Hughes for Teixiera last year (which would have been a disaster). Difference is were still gonna spend money and put put a high quality product. Now that instead of signing the Kyle Farnsworthless, jaret Wright''s, Kei Igawa, and Carl Pavano's of the world you will see younger guys with a lot of ability like Joba, Dellin Betances, Ian Kennedy and Alan Horne getting a shot. Calling up prospects and bringing up youth does not neccessarily = sucking. I didnt see the Red Sox lose 100 games by calling up Papelbon Lester, Delcarmen, Pedroia and Hansen. Im pretty sure the 2 or 3 prospects the Yanks could call up would not devastate the team. And How am I in denial over the postseason? I am aware that 4 games back in the loss after tonight the Yanks will have no shot of making the postseason:sad:
Couple questions... Why? Why are we believing that? We heard the same thing last year and yet this season you went out and got Igawa, Clemens, and Pettite... why are we to believe the irresponsible spending is going to stop? Because you said so? Certainly there are no other signs that it will. If anything the pressure to win will build as the teams investment increases and success diminishes. Brining up youth also does not equall success. You're talking about a bunch of prospects that haven't even made it to a MLB field saving your bacon... is that how desperate times have come that you'll trade the promise of Joba for the numbers Tex delivers? Sounds a little Kookie to me. And to compare these guys to Hughes is ridiculous.... the only thing they have in common is they aren't ready for the pro's.
200 mill at 52-46 = high quality product? Seriously where is the quality product? This team has underachieved for years.
