Nice writeup. If Harris starts over Barton week 1 that would be a very pleasant surprise IMO - Barton has been pretty solid for us.

I don't see Revis moving to CB #1 this season barring injuries. If he does, you know we've got ourselves a hell of a player.

Miller in the dime-packages could thrive...Now KOZ, I still haven't given up on Miller as a Cornerback for the Jets...Ehh, kinda stings.

I havent given up on Miller as a CB either, but I think Mangini is going to have to see something from Miller in games next season before he starts moving him up on the depth chart...we all know what kind of player he is in TC...but those didnt equate to quality play during the season last year...its going to take him some time to move up...

my fingers are crossed for Miller

I wouldnt count on Revis as the #1 either...but I wont rule it out until we see what he capable of in his first few games

the 1st CB taken in the draft has to at least have the potential to be a #1, and Revis shouldnt be the exception

Hopefully/Obviously he has the potential to be #1 or else that was among the dumbest picks in history.

This is a tough call as to whether he will start full time, part time or be a nickle. At least it is not cut and dry like Mangold and Fergusen last year. CB is a difficult position to pick up right away, so I would not be surprised in the least to see Barrett and Dyson over Revis in the beginning and Revis getting more reps as the season progresses. Who knows really if one thing Mangini has shown, is the willingness to let players/draft picks play their way onto the field or play their way off of it......... At least he gives them an ample chance. Not at all like the last coaching staff.

Edit: For got to add that Dyson/Barrett have injury history. If that trend continues Revis will almost certainly be starting at one point no matter what.

but like I worte, Revis is likely to start the season out as the Nickleback, and will have to move his way up...Barrett should lose his job to Revis early in the season. Not due to poor play by Barrett, but good play by Revis

I was actually agreeing with you. I do think one caveat is that Barrett when healthy is actually not bad IMO. Which really further agrees with your point that I think it more likely that Revis will get in there because of injury or his improvement rather then poor play..............

haha, i got that now, I dont know why I thought otherwise from what you wrote...

agreed, lets hope Revis moves up due to good play.

so what does everyone think about Harris/Barton, or Coleman/Smith

i think the Coleman/Von Oelhoffen battle will be a no contest, but maybe thats just me

Wadsworth/Haynes is just for fun, I'd like to think at least one of them will make the team

  10. Only thing about Haynes/Wadsworth, is Wadworth is kinda being used at the OLB spot as a rusher at this stage, while Haynes is working at 3-4 DE. Haynes has alot of talent and would not be shocked to see him starting week one.

I feel like Hank Poteat is more the competition to Revis than Barrett is. Im still convinced Barrett is a goner before we open up against the Pats week 1.

I too feel if Harris can start week 1 that would be a nice boost for our Run D. That guy is a monster, and will be a big contributor for a run D for a long time to come. Even if he doesn't start Week 1 with the way Mangini rotates LB's he will still get in a fair amount of time.

miller as a dimeback would be gravy. they only run intermediate routes and it seems deep ones is what he troubles at. thats when he just stares at his defender and doesnt have ball awareness.

short to intermediate he'll blanket someone.

I think Haynes maybe more competion for Coleman than Kimo will be, and IMO Coleman is the starting DE opening day. Haynes may make the rotation with Coleman and Ellis in the 3-4.

Wadsworth will be competing with Bowens for the pass rush specialist at OLB and 4-3 DE.

I would like to see Revis and Dyson as the starting CBs but could see the Staff playing him at nickel to start the season.

A rotation of Vilma, Harris , and Barton inside would be great.

As far as the Safety position battle, I think Mangini will play whoever is playing better in camp and preseason with Coleman and Smith. Coleman has cooled off since his rookie year, and I believe this is his contract year. Smith brings alot to the table and I can see him beating Coleman out as the starter.

    CUT KIMO!!!!

Thanks for putting this together- it's great to read a meaningful post, rather than alot of the nonsense we see during the offseason.

I wouldnt exactly call it a battle, i think I said it all on how he was a hole in the defense last season, but the Jets are going to just hand someone that hasnt started yet the job without a little competition, and Kimo is the closest there is to competition as of now, unless Haynes get his ass in gear or Wadsworth pulls the out impossible

How's about the NT position. Robertson vs. Pouha. Although nothing has been said about this one, I think it bears watching. If Pouha ends up being the prototypical NT, then it gives the Jets more flexibility in playing Robertson at both the defensive end positions where he may be better suited for.

With stout play from the NT position and the possible emergence of Harris as a run-stuffing MLB, the defense should do better against the run than it did last year.
