Alright, I'll answer. The arrogance I was refering to was mainly Steinbrenner's. I can't stand the guy. He seems like a jerk. Really, who does the stuff he's done over the years? Treating managers and players the way he did, as if they were his possessions? Hiring PDs to dig dirt on players? Is that someone I'd want to root for? No way. Furthermore, as MSUJet85 deftly pointed out, your message was pretty indicative of the way fans can be: I can't stand when, as has happened this year and last, Yankee fans defend their team's subpar performence by saying they have 26 other titles, as if those first 20 or so are anything more than statistics to them. It's stuff like that. Another thing I just came up with: Their handling of the Giambi situation sucked. And I wonder if it's a coincidence that two stars on the Yankees used...
Who does that kind of stuff? An owner who wants to win and who will do what it takes to get what he wants. Is he an asshole? I'm sure he is. But as a fan i like that we have an owner who will do what it takes. As far as how Yankee fans are talking about this years crap, why don't you give some examples? because around here we've been bashing the hell out of them as they deserve it. You guys keep pulling bullshit reasons for hating them, when it still comes down to jealously. If the Mets won as much as they did,you would use it when called for too. Lets try it the right way now. _You hate the Yankees for winning, and giving me the "arrogant Yankee fan" the right to bring this up at will.
I had the guys in my fantasy league in mind when I wrote that, but I've heard that all that time. No, I haven't seen it on the board, but this board is a small sample size. Well, those are my reasons. If you thought any reason besides "jealousy" was bullshit, why did you ask? Another reason: Yankee fans think Don Mattingly belongs in the Hall of Fame.
And why exactly should we be jealous of your history? Fans hate the Yankees more because of how the media sucks the Yankees off more than a history that happened before we are born, even before the Mets franchise was created. They hate how Yankee fans use their own history in every argument as a reason why they think their team is superior. I don't think I have ever seen a Met fan bring up your team's history in any argument if it wasn't shoved in his face by some obnoxious Yankee fan. I think that a lot more Mets fans then you could ever think shares my idea that we don't give a shit about your history.
Oh,so you go around with a mic like a reporter and interview Yankee fans about how they feel about 07? So if this is a small sample size, how about some more references?
Why are championship banners hung? Shirts and hats made? Trophies? History kept? Rings givin out? So the fans and players can be proud of it(which includes speaking of it,and also bragging about it). It's the reason every team goes to spring training. Unless the Mets have some other proud reason you are not sharing with us? That is why it gets brought up. It's not obnoxious,it's jealousy that your team doesn't have it. The Yankees ARE superior. As far as baseball history goes they are superior to your Mets and every other team in baseball. Any other team in American history. I think that, and i know that. Are they this year? no.
I grew up in a mixed house. My dad was a Sox fan and my mother was a Yankees fan, so I dealt with it. The funny thing is, I ALWAYS ended up dating Yankee fans. CT is a good mix of both but I always ended up with the Yankee women.
Nope, no arrogance there. That's like me coming in and saying my Cowboys are always superior to the Jets because they have more titles. I don't ever do that, even though it's the same because I HATE when Yankee fans do it. The past has NOTHING to do with the current season.
And that is the difference between you and me, and maybe you should consider this thought and maybe then you won't be as arrogant. My team's history is a part of what makes my team, likewise what your team's history is a part of what your team is. I began rooting for the Mets because I wanted to root for the underdog, instead of being a bandwagon fan. And as I've learned about my team's history it has only conformed my original thought. So for me I have a much higher regard for Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, Darryl Strawberry, Edgardo Alfonzo, Tom Seaver, etc way more than your Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio, etc. Because I care a hell of a lot more about my team and its history than yours. Are you jealous of the New England Patriots? Boston Bruins? Boston Celtics? Dallas Cowboys? Because I am content with my team's history and root for better success than your team's history.
Yes. I am jealous of the Patriots. In fact,i often find reasons to hate them and their fans without mentioning it is because of their success. What can i say? I wish it were the Jets that won those Sbs.
Can you argue with the statement that i made? Is there another team in baseball that has a superior history to the yankees?
Could I ask you another question, what is more important as a fan actually enjoying the season to get to the title or the title itself? Would you rather be a player like Darko Milicic with championship rings without being a factor at all or a player like Carmelo Anthony with no rings at all but is a huge factor for his team? I can't be jealous of a championship banner and neither should you if you don't have the emotions with that title.
And you're the biggest bullshitter on here when it comes to baseball...#1 reason why it's easy to hate Mets fans... And I don't even hate the Mets! It's people like you...
The difference is that most Yankee fans I have encountered act as though the Yankees HISTORY being superior automatically makes the current and future teams superior in every way. No one (or at least not me) is arguing that the Yankees don't have a storied past. My problem is that it has nothing to do with the present, and acting as though it does comes across as arrogant.
But i don't think anyone does that. I just think that the Met fans make it out that everytime the past is brought the comparison is being made. I really don't see how you see it that way, because there isn't even a way to attempt to compare the 07 yankees to one of their champ years.
It's not that they are trying to compare the current team to a past team, it's that no matter what any team does, or how bad they currently are, all they can seem to say is "26 rings". The 2004 ALCS? "26 rings." Yankees below .500 at the break? "26 rings." That's all well and good, but they ignore completely the current situation. I'm not even saying this board specifically either by the way, just my general experience with Yankee fans. I guess my point is, why is the past even brought up so much? That's why it's the PAST.
The title itself is great, but shortly after you are looking towards the next year. It's the ride there. That's the fun part. But rooting for an organization that i am confident will make the moves and do what it takes to win is even more fun for me. Doesn't always work, look at this year. The 4 championship teams that i enjoyed(was alive for 6) were teams where everyone was a factor. Those were great teams and ones to be proud of and brag about.
