No one said that Yankees were "done" last season. Rather, you had analysts and writers at the time speculating on which team of the four (Sox/Tiger/Red Sox/Yanks) would miss the playoffs. Based on how they were performing at the time, many people did believe the Yankees would be the odd team out. However, no one left them completely for dead, they just thought it would be difficult for them to make up ground on the sox and / hold off either of the AL Central teams.

They simply cannot play consistent baseball and the hole is WAY too deep...Unless they win out against Minny and Anaheim...Which will include Santana, Escobar, Lackey...

Win out and i'd give them a shot...Right now? They're past done.

yea...there basically done...time to worry about shedding dead salaries

  5. Collin Cowherd (From Espn radio) openly admitted that ESPN exec's want to create a pro red sox/anti yankee portrayal. At some point in the last 4 years or so....the red sox became the most popular team in baseball. Additionally, the second most popular team, happens to be their rival, and have a very controversial persona.

It only makes sense for them to portray things the way they do. W/ that said, even as a Yankee fan..i'm sick of the coverage for both teams, win or lose.

The Red Sox are not the most popular team in baseball. They are #2 though.

I can think of a couple.

By the way, I'm willing to say this right now. If the Yankees win the division, I'll wear any sig and avatar Yankee fans come up with until next year's spring training. It's not even a bet, just a pledge. They are NOT winning the division. They might get the wildcard if something ridiculous happens, but there is ZERO shot at the division, even if the Sox run into injuries.

If you believe they can do it why would you care so much about the opinion of Sox and Mets fans to mention them before your point? Why bother with the disclaimer you've been putting on all your posts lately? If you believe it say it... there's 80 games left.

This one is very easy. YES the Yanks are done for this year.. I'm sure it has been said before, in my time here I don't really remember anyone other than maybe Shade seriously believing they were but this year is different. They have never been this bad this late in the season during their run. They are a bad baseball team this year, a very bad baseball team..

I believe that they are done for the year and cannot really see how they can make the playoffs unless 5 teams collapse.
Blue Jays & the Mariners wont stay around but Oakland & Detroit have better pitching staffs despite injuries than the Yankees. Minnesota always sticks around and Morneau and Mauer have both missed time due to injuries but are back now.
Moose has clearly returned to his crappy form from a few years ago. Igewa is obviously a god in Japan only. The bullpen is pitching like Tampa Bays.
Can they rely on 3 starters? Can the BP stop blowing games? Can anyone not names Arod or Jeter hit consistently?
is it impossible for them to hit an incredible hot streak and get the wild card? No its not impossible but the odds are staggering and I dont think they can.
they havent shown that the can go 25-5 in a month and that is what it will take.

You think they are #3 or below? I would say they are a solid 2, maybe the dodgers are #2 but I think I'd rabk the Sox 2.

Red Sox are the most popular in America, mainly because nobody casually likes the Yankees. Everyone who hates the Yankees adopts Boston as a team, even though they're almost as bad.

Take it from a Mets fan, most baseball fans can't stand the Red Sox either.

And whyever would a Mets fan be a reliable source on this question, mired somewhere down in the teens on the list.

It's not even really a subject of true debate - although I suspect someone above will try. The number of Red Sox and Yankee fans nationwide is about equal; but, conversely, the number of fans for whom Yankees are their least favorite team tips the balance.

Yankees fans at least don't go around calling themselves a "Nation" or something gay like that, like we were forced onto a reservation generations ago.

A fair point, however I think you may be discounting the destructive impact of a Jimmy Fallon vehicle about being a superfan of your franchise.
