So much for this hot streak we were on. Vargas and Pelfrey each pitching regularly through the rotation for at least the next 15 days (I doubt Sosa comes back from the hamstring so soon.)
Vargas is going to get 2 starts, it could be worse. They're going to DL Perez retroactively so he'll be ready to go after the AS break. I would lean more towards "mediocre" then "OK" regarding his AAA performance this year.
This is not going to be fun. Who knows though; there have been more surprising things than Pelfrey and/or Vargas coming out of no where to be awesome.
You guys forgot Glavine. He's pitching, too. Glavine seems to pitch good when the Mets are going good. He sucks when the team sucks. He never seems to stop a losing streak.
Omar needs to make a move now. Get rid of Schoeneweis. Improve the bullpen. Trade for a top of the line starter because there is no way this rotation beats an AL team in a best of 7 series if we even make it that far. Willie's gotta stop using this whole veteran needs to start thing. Gotay is clearly hitting better than Valentin and he needs to play him. Valentin can't get a ball two steps to the left or right of him anymore with his knee. Sick of Willie playing players because of contracts. It takes an injury for Willie to play a young kid. Julio Franco just needs to retire now. He's only hurting the team and Willie continues to use him in crucial spots.
my wish list get Octavio Dotel send Schoeneweis out to pasture trade Heilman, Pelfrey, and Milledge release or trade Mota Franco retires Valentin to the bench As for trading for a top line starter, I don't see how it gets done unless John Maine or Oliver Perez get seriously injured before July 31 or one of them is part of the trade. The mistake was resigning Tom Glavine. I wrote back in the fall that that was a major, major mistake. The Glavine signing will probably prevent the Mets from acquiring a front line pitcher. The Mets are not going to move Glavine to the pen in the regular season. Glavine and Martinez are starters until they both completely suck as starters and/or volunteer to work out of the bullpen. Maybe Martinez would welcome working from the pen? No way, probably. That would be nice, though. When the Mets signed Martinez I figured he wouldn't be a great starting pitcher anymore by the 3rd and 4th years of the deal. I thought back in December 2004 that he would probably be in the bullpen in 2007 and 2008 OR he'd be stinking it up as a .500 type starter.
