I don't think its possible to like A-Rod. There are certain players that just come off kind of like aloof jerks and I think A-Rod falls in this category as well as Beltran. Maybe its just a NY thing but it seems the fans don't really trust these guys, when they're going well everything is good but as soon as they start to slip the boos are back.

I heard Derek Jeter get booed the other day.

    Everyone gets booed in NY.

    I still like ARod.

You like him now. Show me a Mets fan that says they like Beltran better then Reyes or Wright and I'll show you a liar. I'm sure it goes that way with the Yankees too.

Good point. I always liked ARod though. I'll admit I wanted him gone before the season started though. Not because I don't like him, but I just grew tired of him failing me.

That's NY. We're all fickle. Like an old co-worker who used to drive a taxi used to say to me "You're only as good as your last fare."

I actually like Beltran better the Wright. Reyes is my favorite, but I always liked Beltran's game. He is very fundamentally sound in most aspects.

I have an Authentic Beltran jersey as well. I also have a Reyes All star jersey.

I have nothing against David, I love him as a player and as the face of the organization. I just don't get into the "Great white hope", "aww shucks", "I would like him to date my sister" man-crush thing.

I don't think its that per-se its just easier for fans to get behind guys that seem like they have a real passion for the game and don't make excuses when things aren't going so well. Beltran tweaks a knee and everything you hear from him is about how he isn't 100% and he is injured. A-Rod makes the same kind of excuses bringing up his great numbers when people call him unclutch. It's hard to put your finger on exactly what it is but this kind of stuff bothers alot of fans. Sort of like how LoDuca is popular despite the fact he isn't very good and is a loud mouth jackass.

To each their own. I have nothing against Wright, or any Met really except Blownweiss.

I just think people dismiss some of the truly spectacular moments Beltran has given the Mets in his time here.

I've Supported A-Rod since day 1 and believe he has never gotten a fair deal here in NY.

That said, I think the Post is on a witch hunt simply because A-Rod has limited media access to him and it's obvious they are out to get him...

    ...again.

The guy is one of the greatest baseball players ever, truth is he is livin the dream that every fan wishes they could. For some that makes you love the guy for others it's animosity.

What do I think of it?

I thought A-Blow would have had a hotter wife.

His wife is classless wearing a shirt like that when kids attend the games.

It's okay to be obscene at Yankee Fuckin' Stadium.

Also, since it is okay to be obscene at Yankess Stadium and Yankess fans like it (read above posts), can we use all sorts of nasty language in Yankess threads?

I think that no team in professional sports, much less Major League Baseball can even *sniff* the level of class, professionalism, and pride that the Yankees possess. The Yankees are the gold sterling standard when it comes to being a high class, high caliber organization.

I think that Alex Rodriguez wife knows and understands this tradition of excellence, and endeavors hard to meet its high standards and expectations. As a wife of a player, she is de-facto part of the organization. As such, the organization's culture of pure unadulterated high-class professionalism obviously rubbed off on her.

Some may see this as being "low class" or beneath the Yankees. Those individuals would be wrong. They fail to appreciate the fact that *because* of the Yankees tradition of excellence her actions become part of that tradition. Any action preformed by a member of the Yankees organization, or ancillaries to the organization are so class filled, even otherwise "classless" actions become classy. I know it sounds paradoxical, but it's the truth. George Steinbrenner could defecate on home plate during the national anthem and it would be a classy professional action. Much like introducing a mercenary overpaid, overrated, over aged starting pitcher in the middle of the seventh inning stretch was an amazing act of classy professionalism by the most professional organization in human history.

    Kudos, Mrs. Rod.

By the way, Mrs. Rod's F--- You was intended for Yankess fans. Yankess fans may recall that one of their own pitchers, Jack McDowell, delivered the same message to them about a dozen years ago.

I just saw that in the barbershop today.

As many can attest, I've slammed the Post repeatedly for their shameless actions. The "paper" consists of inaccurate, dirty, and gossip-driven trash.

I don't give a damn what A-Rod's wife may or may not have been wearing, and even if she got into Yankee Stadium, stripped off all her clothes and screamed "JETER SUCKS!", I don't think that belongs on the front cover of any newspaper.

    Totally off-topic.

I read this a lot on this board, and I've decided to take up a serious crusade to alter people's perspectives. I read about as much news as I can fit in between between work and play, and I LOVE the New York Post. Post headlines are an important part of any news cycle, because they provide either the guilty joke or the honest truth behind every single news story. And, I could make a credible argument that the New York Post, with the exception of its sportspages, is the most honest newspaper on the planet. THAT's why it's my favorite. All news media thrive on sensationalism of some type. The Post just gets it right.

    Here's what I mean:

On the front page of the Times today, we have:

    (a) A story about possible Al Qaeda connections in the London and GLasgow bombings. Ummm...... HELLOOOOO.

    (b) An uplifting story about former New Orleans residents rebuilding their city. Yaaaaaaawwwwwwn. (Spending their looting money, I suppose)

    (c) A story about how the tiny African island of S?o Tom? (uhh. . . yeah) might be holding a treasure trove worth of oil, but is grappling with looming corruption. (and tucked neatly away in the story is how the leftward elite of the good ol' USA, led by George Soros are "helping out." :roalize:

    (d) A story about Fred Thompson's lobbying roots; just to temper the fireworks of his July 4th announcement.
The Times front page is chock full of a combination of "duhs," "who cares," and "whatevas." A full broad sheet of nuthin's.

The Post, coversely, has less than a full sentence to catch the eye and make people want to read more. "F-Rod" gets it right.

    My crusade goes on. . . . . .

    Uhhh....no.

Keith Olbermann told an interesting story today. He knew a former journalism major who the NY Post wanted to hire to write sports. Before they gave him the job, the editors at the Post explain to him that everything he wrote had to have a negative slant to it so that they could sell papers. He turned down the job.

Isn't that the exact opposite of what journalism should be?

The NY Post is at the same level as the national enquirer. I still read the NY Post everyday; I just know its all trash.

The thing is I do like A Rod, I've met the guy and spoken to him and he is a nice guy. I think Sutcliffe is off his rocker to even suggest he should have stayed in Seattle. That team is playing well because they can afford to sign guys not named A rod.

You do bring up an interesting point though about Beltran. I don't trust him. He was as unclutch last year in game 7 as you can be. With the exception of Delgado I don't want him up in a tight spot. I'd take Wright, Reyes and LoDuca before Carlos I or Carlos II

Beltran has slugged .817 in 22 playoff games. Sure, he struck out in the final AB of Game 7 last year, but he has been a huge postseason performer.
