An era prone GM ,where have we heard that one before? Ted Phillips is the President of the Chicago Bears. He replaced Michael McKaskey, taking over operation of the Bears, shortly after the Dave McGinnis hiring fiasco, which not only placed the former Bears linebacker coach in a tough spot, it embarrassed the organization. Jerry Angelo was the former Director of Player Personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Angelo has an extensive career in football, having been a graduate assistant at Miami, Ohio. After working as a defensive coach at Colorado State, the University of Tampa and Syracuse, Angelo became a scout for the Dallas Cowboys in 1980. He worked for the Calgary Stampeders and the New York Giants before joining Tampa Bay in 1987. Angelo is credited with supplying Tampa with Warren Sapp, Marcus Jones, Anthony McFarland, Nate Webster, Gramatica, Dunn, Middelton, Donnie Abraham, Brooks, Alstott, Brian Kelly, amongst others. So far, Angelo has has mixed results as GM. He drafted Marc Colombo, at #29, who has been riddled with injury. Had he not cut Blake Brockermayer, he would not have had to reach and grab Colombo. Let go of Tony Parrish in favor of Mike Green. Parrish has been tremendous with San Fran. He also screwed up by not checking the proper compensation box, allowing KC to offer Warrick Holdman a big contract. the Bears are then forced to match, and this eventually leads to Colvin leaving in free agency, due to the cap. Angelo also commits the same error, which allows Minnesota to sign Bates to a deal. Angelo then tries to save face, by signing Bates, and then trying to lowball him into resigning a low contract. Bates balks, the Bears cut him, and he signs with Minny anyway(sound familiar Jet fans?). Last year, Angelo traded down from the #4 overall selection, with the NY Jets for the #14 and #22 picks. He drafted Haynes and Grossman, two players who showed nice upside in limited play. Charles Tillman was a brilliant pick, and will have the position locked up for years. Other notable picks were Lance Briggs, Bobby Wade, and Justin Gage, all of whom contributed well. Most draft take years to grade, but the fruits of Angelo's labor can already be seen. Overall, a terrific draft. Basically, Angelo looks for the best player available, and does not necessarily draft for need. He is not overly aggressive in free agency, believing that to be a sign of a team in trouble(again, sound familiar Jet fans?). Angelo also has complete control of the draft, but he should work well with Lovie Smith. Thanks MC , thats what its for
it's rediculous, I have been on this site for three years but becuase I don't post alot I can't start any threads. I know I might kill this thread but who gives a shit about the bears anyway.
well, someone else is gonna come after you. And I think you have only been on the site for about 1 year 1/2. Almost three though.
Your lack of respect for the draft forum is infuriating, you deserve a year's ban. A year's ban I say.
I say we make him play Left guard. Hell somebodys gotta do it. I've been posting for a little over three weeks and can already start threads. Its amazing how easy it is to accumulate posts if you actually talk to people instead of Lurk and then Spam to get you count up. Enjoy you up comming ban.
