Assuming that the top three backs are gone at my pick (Ladainian Tomlinson, Shaun Alexandar, Larry Johnson)...Who would you select at #5? Here are some of my favorites... Frank Gore Steven Jackson Reggie Bush Cedric Benson Joe Addai Give me two guys you would want out of that list and maybe a few reasons why...thanks guys.
Steven Jackson - He's actually #3 overall on my board. The guy proved last year he could carry the full load: 1528 yards and 13 TDs rushing 806 yards off 90 receptions and 3 touchdowns catching the ball You're basically getting a stud RB and #2/3 reciever (depending on if receptions count) all in one. I'm really hoping he's available when I pick this season, he'll be an absolute steal anywhere past the third pick. ------------- After that I'd go with Frank Gore. I'm a guy that likes consistency and proven players, and I know that Gore only had one year.....but damn! This kid is GOOD! Almost 1700 rushing yards and 500 recieving, with 12 total TDs. Plus, the Niners seem to be heading in the right direction. Having a fully healthy Vernon Davis and Darrelle Jackson should help take the eigth defender out of the box.
I agree with Pred. It's gotta be Jackson first out of that list. After that, I don't like the young guys that high. Addai maybe but Bush is still not a full time back and who knows what Benson will do. Therefore, I'd probably pick Gore over those three.
agree with Jackson. 2nd guy i?d go with is addai. Addai is imo a very simular runnter to James (also talents vise) and if you look at the stats of Edgerin James behind the Colts line, addai should be able to get 1600-1900 total yards and 10+ TDs.
Steven Jackson - I doubt he falls to 5 Frank Gore Reggie Bush Gore and Bush should both be there at 5. And just like in Politics I would take Gore
You're in a league of idiots if Jackson falls to 5. Don't expect him to be there. If he is, lucky you  Gore, then Addai, then Rudi Johnson.
Damn guys, where's the love for Brian Westbrook? I don't just mean in this thread, but everywhere I look people forget about him. The guy is a beast, especially in leagues that count receptions. I was fortunate enough to have him and Steven Jackson in my big league last year - and since catches were a point each it was like playing two extra recievers. I would love to draft between the 7 and 9 spot and have him fall to me
Yeah...I hadn't done any of my fantasy football research when I made this post and you are 100% correct without a doubt...Steve Jackson will not be there... From the rumors flying around the top 4 picks in our draft will go something like this... 1- LT 2- L. Johnson 3- Steven Jackson 4- Frank Gore/Shaun Alexandar This means I will have my choice of either Gore and Addai or Addai and Alexandar... Only problem is...I am not as high on the 30 year old Alexandar as a I am Addai... I expect big things from Addai and if Gore isn't there I am almost willing to bet I will pick Joe Addai.
I could understand why you don't like benson, but what's not to like about Addai? He plays on the fast indy turf, he is absolutely going to get the full load of carries this year, had 40 receptions and 1000 yards rushing last year as a backup, and is in the best offense in the league. If Gore is gone...I am more than likely going to take Addai ahead of Alexandar who is turning 30, coming off injuries, and doesn't have the same oline he once had.
I think Addai is easily a 2nd rounder at the most.....he has alot more to prove then 1000 yards and 40 receptions to warrant a 5th overall pick....Id take Manning before Addai without blinking.... Benson needs to prove himself as an only RB on CHI before we hand him the #5 on a silver platter
Benson isn't worth the #5 pick...I am not too sure why I included him in my post because I would never think about taking him at 5... So you like Alexandar more than Addai I am assuming... I refuse to take Manning at #5
Top 5 Tomlinson Jackson Larry Johnson Gore Alexander Then there's the guys that aren't top 5, but you should know what you're getting: Rudi Johnson Westbrook Willie Parker Travis Henry (new team, but I don't see how running for Shanahan could be a bad career move) McGahee (can he play up to his potential on the Ravens?) There's just so many young, unproven players this year that it's tough to pick anywhere after the top 5: Benson Addai Maroney Bush Jones-Drew Marshawn Lynch Ronnie Brown (split carries first year - shit team second year) Cadillac (solid first year, injury plagued second year)
I am just not sold on Alexandar...his age and injury last season concern me big time. Not to mention his oline isn't what it used to be. I hope Gore is there so it is a easy pick to make.
I don't need proof of anything regarding Addai. It was obvious just how much better Addai was than Dominic Rhodes, a decent back. If Addai is healthy all or most of the season - I have him at a lock for 1250/8 - ceiling of 1500/14. Westbrook's health problems are the only thing from giving him 5th overall value. The guy racks up yards like hotcakes as McNabb's #1 target.. but he's tended to be fragile. He's a solid gamble though, I wouldn't argue too long about taking him 6-9, assuming the top 5 predator mentioned are off the board.
I'd steer well clear of Alexander. To be honest I wouldn't even be comfortable picking LJ this year. Maybe at 5 or 6, I guess. LT, Jackson, Gore are, for me, the three can't-miss guys at the top of R1.
