Think Pete will talk??? Is it in his best interest to keep mum, given his unhappiness and weak bargaining position, or tattle and stir the pot? What do you all think?:gpc: Jets' Kendall in a tough spot BY BOB GLAUBER June 22, 2007, 8:20 PM EDT Pete Kendall is in a very ticklish situation these days ... and no, we're not talking about the fact he's unhappy with his contract and has asked to be traded or released. It's over the issue of whether the Jets have violated the collective bargaining agreement by allowing too much contact during offseason workouts and/or minicamps. Click here to find out more! So why would Kendall, the Jets' disgruntled guard, be any more conflicted about this situation than his teammates? Well, Kendall is the Jets' player representative, and as such, he's responsible for reporting to the NFL Players Association if there's too much hitting in practice. The question now is whether he's willing to blow the whistle on a team that is not budging on his request to add $1 million to his 2007 salary of $1.7 million. The Jets were seen during minicamp practice to be engaged in some fairly significant physical contact during some drills -- the defensive linemen were rushing pretty hard and being blocked by the offensive linemen, even though the Jets were dressed in just helmets, jerseys and shorts, with no shoulder pads. Technically, this is a no-no when it comes to the offseason rules regarding contact. "When we get information like this, we call the player rep and talk to him about what's been going on," said NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis. "If he feels like that's a violation, we launch an investigation." Francis was uncertain if the union would contact Kendall, but there's a chance it will happen. And what Kendall would do with any information is unclear. He did not return telephone calls seeking comment. A Jets' spokesman said general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Eric Mangini are not commenting about Newsday's initial report that the Jets may have violated the CBA by allowing contact. Oakland last week was slapped with a one-week sanction on offseason workouts because of too much contact. The Jets' offseason workouts are complete, so any penalty of that nature would essentially be moot. But the team is subject to a fine, and if it's determined that the violations have been rampant, a draft choice might be forfeited.
He's already made himself look like a selfish ass, now he's gonna be a tattle tale too? It would be a bad move on his part, whether he stays with the Jets or moves on.
This is absolute bollocks. Football is a sport for men played by men. I'm sure that all these guys would be having alot of fun at the same time. Every mini-camp that I've either attended or played in is physical and hard , but at the same time alot of fun. I don't believe that the Jets coaches would delibratley put any play in danger.
Its not about deliberatly putting them in danger. I sure every team has some kinda contact during OTC. The thing is based on an agreement between the players and the league. Once they hit actual camp then they can hit each other but since its mini they cant, yet im willing to bet most teams do. The jets got screwed because theyve got this beef with Kendall and since he reports directly to the Union he is taking the opportunity to try and screw the Jets. I'm sorry but i don't want someone that spiteful on this team. No one is going to like him after that. If you can't trade the dude just cut him....
I think Kendall may be Outspoken but he ain't no rat! I think he should get his $$$. Funny how many people applauded C-Mart takin a pay cut and Chrebet takin one because their careers were over but when Kendall did it while he was Producing and also mentoring he is now a Villan.... That is BS!
He is just trying to hold the Jets front office for ransom, they do not feel like they have done anything wrong so they are not budging, Kendall is a puke
Kendall needs to be released. Today. He is the ONE divisive player on this team and is really not that great anyway. This situation is also exactly like the situation in Arizona that caused him to be dumped there.
Do not cut Kendall......fuck him......keep him "on" the team, just deactivate him until someone loses a guard, then trade his ass for more than he's worth
I don't think it was less than his original contract - what he lost in base salary he more than made up in bonuses.
Pete's cryin n' denyin'...... BY RICH CIMINI DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Sunday, June 24th 2007, 4:00 AM * Read Rich Cimini's The Jets Stream Ten days ago, Jets guard Pete Kendall went public with his unhappiness over his contract situation, demanding to be released or traded. His feelings haven't subsided. If anything, he's madder than ever. Beyond the money issues, Kendall is steamed by what he perceives as a "good cop, bad cop" smear campaign being waged by the Jets, and he vented those opinions yesterday in a phone interview with the Daily News. He also addressed speculation that, as the Jets' union rep, he blew the whistle on coach Eric Mangini for running minicamp practices last weekend that may have violated league rules on offseason contact. The NFL Players' Association reportedly is looking into whether the Jets broke any rules. Kendall said he hasn't been contacted by the NFLPA, but when asked if he notified the union of alleged violations, he replied, "I'm not going to confirm or deny any of that. I guess in the court of public opinion I've been tried, but I'm not going to offer a defense or accept guilt." Asked if he believes that Mangini's practices included too much contact, Kendall simply said, "I'm not going to comment" - a response that spoke volumes. Kendall, seeking a $1 million raise on his $1.7 million salary for 2007, is irked more by the way the organization has handled his contract request. He accused the club of trying to discredit him by leaking false information. After a positive March meeting with Mangini in which the coach encouraged candid, two-way dialogue, Kendall was dismayed to read a report a few weeks later that said the Jets wanted to dump him because he's a locker-room lawyer. "When Eric says one thing, and somebody else seemingly in the organization leaks negative stuff about me, it leaves me scratching my head," Kendall said. "It's like good cop, bad cop. "I know I've taken my lumps - that happens when an athlete goes public with a contract dispute - but when the organization starts lying - or maybe 'misspeaking' is the term I should use - it leaves a bad taste." Kendall said the last straw came the day after his minicamp diatribe, when he read several reports that said he was offered a one-year contract in 2006, the inference being it was his choice to take the security of a four-year deal. He called that a "complete falsehood," insisting it was leaked by the organization. Sources later confirmed that, technically, he never was offered a one-year contract. "It's upsetting to me because it gets spun that I've been disloyal to them," said Kendall, who skipped the voluntary workouts but reported to the mandatory minicamp. "To put those things out there - the clubhouse lawyer and the one-year offer - and to lie and retract it the next day . . . it shows me how na?ve and foolish I was to help them out." Kendall played with a bad back in 2005 and reworked his contract to create salary-cap room and now he wants a raise. But he's in the second year of a four-year deal, and the Jets don't appear willing to spend anymore. Mangini and GM Mike Tannenbaum, refusing to be drawn into a war of words, have declined to criticize Kendall publicly for his sharp words and actions. The club also declined to comment on the alleged practice violations, which could result in a fine or, in an extreme case, the loss of a draft pick.
King Koopa is right on the money. Keep him and deactivate him. That will piss him off even more. As for being a tattle tail, see: the Arizona Cardinals and Pete Kendall, before he came to the Jets. Then ask yourself if he was the source of the leak.........He has played well for us, there is no question, and it was very noble of him to rework his contract for us. But he should know it is a business and it doesn't make sense for the JETS to rework him again to give a guy with his injury history and age more $$$.
