Sports is NOT all about Championships. Sure, that's the ultimate goal, but it's also about having fun, socialising and discussion. It's about entertainment and passion. How long could you watch the Jets if every game ended 15-6 with no touchdowns? Sure it'd be great for a year, maybe 2, but after that even winning championships would seem hollow. There's more.
I do not recall Chad being either directly or solely responsible for those losses. Particularly the Oakland game. The whole team sucked wind in that one.
Did you ever hear the term that sports is really a business? Well records are part of that & if you owned your own business & are making tons of money you are successful right? If OTH your business is losing money & you have to close the doors you are unsuccessful right? Well then the same holds true for the NYJs win CHAMPIONSHIPs & you are successful. Do not win CHAMPIONSHIPs you are unsuccessful. It is really all that easy & all the rest you posted is just plain smoke & mirrors IMHO to rationalize the losing.
See IMHO your reply is just more smoke & mirrors to rationalize that Chad is the greatest sorry to say. Oh yes please explain why we wasted a 2nd round draft pick on KC if he was not to be CPs replacement hopefully this year?
We "wasted" a pick on KC because we needed to have a viable backup groomed AND they were concerned about how well Chad would recover from a 2nd rotator cuff injury. It wasn't because they agreed with you that Chad is Mr. Flutterball. It took literally no time at all for him to distance himself from the "competition" in training camp. And there are very few of us chanting Chad is the greatest... he's a quarterback with weaknesses, but not so many or any one so dire that we cannot win with him under center. This team continues to have success with him as QB (yes, success, that thing you adamantly disagree with 98% of us about how it is defined). KC is not going to take the job from him short of him becoming injured again.
Chad was also not responsible for last years first round playoff loss. In fact the 300 yards he passed for was the highest yrds/game average among any of the playoff QBs. Football is a team sport. The JETS as a team were not super bowl caliber and Pennington is not the sole reason they weren't. In fact, he was one of the reasons the JETS were much better than projected.
He was drafted because at the time of last year's draft we were trying to bring in as many QBs as we could in the hope that somebody could do the job. We had Chad and Brooks, we signed a guy, drafted a guy and let the chips fall where they would. Where they fell was that Chad ran off with an open competition in about a week, then took the team to the playoffs. And you're still crying about a second round pick.
Just because 98% of the people on this board do not agree with me that anything less then a CHAMPIONSHIP is a unsuccessful season will in no way change MHO of what is successful or unsuccessful season is. I am sure if you interviewed the HC of our team & we had just gone 10-6 which was not good enough to get a WC & ask him what he thought of the season he would probably say if he was candid that it was OK but because we did not win the SB it was unsuccessful. You do remember our past HC saying that the season is played to win the SB. I am sure anybody you ask would say that also maybe even you if you sat down & thought about it a bit.
It will be interesting to see the views on Chad after the first two games this year against Ne and Baltimore.
Sorry to me it means that after a whirlwind tour the "brains" decided on KC as the FUTURE it may not be working out that way but KC was supposed to be our Vince Y or Matt L or Jay C
The views will go..."Well, If Thomas Jones hadnt rushed for 125 per game, we wouldn't be 2-0, because ole' noodle arm only threw those 5 td's because they were forced to key on our running game..."
So they drafted a guy to be "the future" after passing on him twice earlier in the day? Those other guys were #1 picks, as are most QBs that are designated as "the future". Clemmens was more a matter of accumulating bodies because the position was a huge question mark heading into last year's camp.
If you say is true which I do not accept then you are saying we just threw away our 2nd round draft pick year? Now does that sound like a smart GM & HC to you?
The first Oakland playoff game, that's on Richie Anderson. The Jets played well and were moving the ball down 7 in the third quarter. Anderson fumbled on first down. Next play was a 70 yard TD to Jerry Rice and that was that. There were like zero Jets fans at that game. I counted 4, including us. It was right after 9/11 and people were not into flying, so that probably kept Jets fans away. There was this one guy in full Jets gear sitting first row 50 yard line by himself....and every time the Jets did something good he would turn around and do the throat slash thing to all the costumed freakazoid Raider fans. When the Raiders went up by 2 TDs this guy called the "Grim Reaper" was all over him to the delight of the other fans who high 5'd him and went Yeahhhhhh Reaperrrrrrr as he went back to his seat. Personally, I was in disguise but had a Jets shirt on underneath. Still, I almost got beat up in the bathroom by one of those guys with the nets in his hair, black and white plaid shirt and speaking voice like Cheech from Cheech and Chong. I thought my green shirt had stuck out a little....but it was only a false alarm. He was just messing. That stadium, though, it's kinda dangerous. If you ever go there, be careful and keep your mouth shut.
The guy is still on the team and now elevated to the #2 QB, so is that "throwing away" a draft pick? Just because a QB doesn't step in immediately doesn't mean he'll never play. Even Tom Brady sat out his first year before winning CHAMPIONSHIPS, so let's wait and see. Clemmens is behind an injury prone QB 8-9 years his senior, so I wouldn't say he was a wasted #2 pick. If you've been a Jet fan as long as you say you have, you should know what a waste of a #2 pick looks like.
Have you had a memory lapse or did not KC sit out last year just like TB did as you mentioned? Yep I sure do & when it smells like a duck it is usually a duck & so far if the reports are correct KC is going down that ugly road that is called Failure St. If as another poster posted that we got him to have bodies in camp then at least IMHO the GM & HC really did the team a terrible disservice when they drafted him
