It's not enough that Beltran is hitting for crap, now he's got Castillo making behind the back flips against him?
And now Carlos II gets robbed, costing two runs. The Mets could easily have 4+ runs in this inning, and instead get 0.
Bert Blyleven - meh. He was an All-Star exactly twice in in a 22 year career, which means that someone else on all of those bad teams he was on was getting into the game instead. His career ERA was 0.6 runs below the league average, and he was only in the top 3 in his league in ERA three times. Just about the only positive stat he was a leader in multiple times was shutouts. I think he was a good pitcher for a long time, but he's not a Hall of Famer in my book.
There are six big problem players on the Mets right now. (Julio Franco and I suppose a couple other guys are lesser problems.) Glavine- Hey, no surprise whatsoever. It was a mistake to resign him. Horrible decision. The Mets had their head up their asses. Heilman- Texas does not have any good starting pitchers. They have some quality relievers. Heilman may get his wish to start games again. Schoeneweis- I thought this guy would be alright. He's worthless. Delgado and Beltran- Better get their acts in gear now. I didn't like seeing Delgado laughing on the field last night (after he forgot how many outs there were). Moments later, his head was still up his ass when he failed to be on 1st base and Feliciano had no play on the runner. I know, weird play, blah blah blah. The point of the matter is Delgado's head was up his ass there. Mota- The Mets were 33-17 before this steroid abuser joined the team this year. They have gone 4-13 with him. If you believe in karma, well, here it is working its magic. This guy sucked, absolutely sucked, with Cleveland last year. Then he went to the Mets and was brilliant in the regular season and then so-so in the postseason. He is now off steroids (or so we think) and sucks again. Jeez, I don't know. Draw your own conclusions, I guess. ______ Octavio Dotel is closing games for Kansas City. Since there is really no reason to keep a closer when you are a last place team, I have to think Dotel will be moved before July 31. Hey Mets- why wait? If I was the Mets GM I would look to acquire Dotel pronto. I would also look into acquiring Jeff Conine. He could platoon in left field and spell Delgado at 1st base. I can't imagine the Reds would be asking too much for this soon-to-be 41-year old. The Mets should not wait around for Alou. That guy is totally unreliable. I like Carlos Gomez, but I don't know if I like him starting almost every game till Alou or Chavez come back. If Conine can be acquired cheaply, I think it would be a good move. Griffey Jr.- He would cost too much and he probably does not want to play in New York. Adam Dunn- No f*$^&#' way. This guy would be totally wrong for the Mets. The one thing he does good is hit home runs. Shea Stadium would not be kind to him in that department. He would still strike out like a son of a bitch and hit for a repugnant average. His OBP would still be in the .340 area. Mark Buehrle- He would be a good acquisition depending on the package. Heilman and a middling prospect- good. Humber and a middling prospect- not as good. Fernando Martinez- horrible.
I guess I'm missing all of those "great swings" Beltran is supposedly having - to me he continues to look awful.
