If Carlos Delgado, now 34, plays till 38 like Sheffield, he will have better career numbers than Gary Sheffield, 38, to this point. He now has 408 hrs, he easily gets to 500 plus, he has 1300 plus rbis, he easily gets to 1500 plus, and he easily gets to 2000 hits, he currently has 1700.

i highly doubt he plays till 38 and would maybe reach 475 but not 500.

Ortiz still has a lot of time left. If he goes 8 years as quite possibly the most feared hitter in the AL, he can get in.

And Thome walks constantly, so he can get in for that.

Ortiz is an interesting case, his size and build suggest he will age hard, but he's also a full time DH, so he could have a edgar martinez`career and play til 40

    First to reach 500: A-rod
    2. Thomas(could be around same week A-rod does it)
    3. Manny
    4. Thome
    5. Sheffield

I'd actually hedge Ortiz' career on who is in the lineup with him. If Manny hits behind him for another 10 years, they'll both continue to slam mammoth shots. If ARod (God forbid) goes to Boston, same deal, and might even extend Ortiz' career further.

Take a top-flight power hitter away from his protection, and his career would shorten quite a bit.

I don't know, Alex has to hit 2 for every 1 Thomas hits. That's a lot. (Of course, I'd be happy if that happened, but that's not going to be an easy feat.)

EDIT: And Manny will get there before Thome.

    A-rod has 27 vs. Thomas' 9. I think a 2:1 ratio can happen.
