I would have been thrilled. are you forgetting that Perez was an ace just two short years ago and probably the best young lefty in the game. Other than Glavine(our 5th starter) I'm not worried about the SPing. The bullpen is a whole different story as I don't have faith in anyone other than Wagner. The bullpen is where we need to look to improve..
The whole bottom of the pen is a disaster. Today's game is one we win last year. Anytime a starter leaves the game early Willie brings in one of the Sele/Mota/Schoenweis troika and the Mets are suddenly staring down a multiple run deficeit. Last year in these spots we had DOliver/Bradford/Feliciano.
Excellent point. Along those same lines, is Sanchez done for the year? I wouldn't mind a small trade for a reliever in July...Then again, I wouldn't mind a lot of trades.
Clippard must be the worst starter the yankees have thrown out there in 10 years. DeSalvo or Igawa would be a monumental improvement over that bum. And they should have traded Hughes when they could have gotten a ton for him, he's just another Pavano.
How many shots do we give Glavine to win his 300th before he becomes a spot starter? I know there's not alot of options right now but Glavine is killin the Mets.
T-Clip is simply a young kid, so I give him mulligans. But his control is pathetic, I can't even excuse him for that, it's so horrid i'm sick of seeing the count always in the hitters favor. You knew he was going to get hit today with the Mets seeing him a 2nd time, but T-Clip's time may be up this season and should be sent back down after his huge adrenaline rush in the bigs and I will be more than happy to see him in the rotation at the start of 08' with better mechanics and control. Luckily the offense came through today and bailed out T-Clip, but Rivera coming in? FOR WHAT JOE!? It baffles me that he can still fuckup with the lead he had, and he may have lost Mo for tomorrow night if needed. I've heard and read that Igawa has done very well in AAA and his control looks better as he has changed his throwing motion and mechanics...So I say you thank T-Clip for what he's done and make sure he heads to Scranton with a smile on his face and callup Igawa.
I had no problem with this, Rivera still needs work and needs to round up into form. We cant having him sitting in the pen for 4-5 days at a time
hmm..seems the Yankees agree with my assesment. I suppose you got your knowledge out of a cereal box. At least that's what you show,
So Brian Cashman said when he sent down Clippard that he was the worst in 10 years? Maybe he forgot Tim Redding. Or the countless other 5th starters tried by just about every team in baseball. Clippard isn't great, but he's young and still better than some. And I guarantee you that the only person to ever compare Hughes to Pavano is you, and it's probably the stupidest thing ever said.
It's gonna suck seeing The Duke in a Mets uniform at Yankee Stadium... It's just wrong...But I digress. Get this series with Wang!
Mets fans: I want to say this, but I don't want you to take it the wrong way. It's not meant to kick dirt on you at all, as a matter of fact, it's meant to encourage you. You sound exactly like us Yankees fans did a few weeks ago. We were saying the same exact things up till the last Mets series. When the starters give you a great outing the hits dry up. When the hitting scores a half dozen runs, the starters give up a dozen. When they're both on, the pen collapses. It's a dry spell. The one good thing you have in your favor that we didn't is that you're still at the top of your division. We were in the basement of ours. Your ship will right itself. Stop worrying. There's far too much talent on your end to allow this to continue for long. -------------------------- As for the Yankees, Clippard had a rough outing. He's a baby. He wasn't eevn supposed to be here yet. Now he'll go the same route as Igawa. Back down to the minors, get in some mechanical adjustment, and be just fine. The kid has talent. Speaking of Igawa, as EcKo said, they were saying that he's ready to be a ML pitcher again. He just needed some instruction. No big deal. That's what minor league assignments are for. Now Clip should benefit from the same thing. Plus, I just read Clip is happy about his experience up here. He's going down with the intention of getting back as quick as possible. He's got a lot of maturity for a 22 year old, and that's a very positive thing. -------------------------- Now Don, come on. Hughes = Pavano? Seriously? He popped a hamstring on an overdone stride during a no-hitter. His next injury came during a drill, and probably had more to do with favoring the hammy than anything else. If it continues, then you can say something, but right now, there's nothing to complain about with him. --------------------------- As for Mo, there was nothing wrong with him coming in yesterday. It was an afternoon game before a night game, and he hadn't worked in a couple days. We've seen already this year that he is fine when he gets regular work. Yesterday was an opportunity for him to get back into some work, while having a small chance to blow the lead. I give credit to Joe for making that move. Now Mo should actually be better prepared if called on in a save situation tonight. -------------------------- WTF with Farnsworth though? How many times is he going to give up runs in appearances before he no longer gets the call as a setup man? If I were Joe, I'd have Proctor as the setup man at this point, with Bruney the official "7th" inning man. Vizcaino and Farnsworth can be the middle men, who should only see action on our 4th and 5th starter days. Proctor and Bruney are the closest we've had to Stanton/Nelson since we had Stanton and Nelson.
